So Im feelin kinda vain just tryin to maintain
Im not writing for gain or fame
Just tryin to maintain
Dopamine in my brain
So hard to explain
But I'll try to remain sane
Just hopin to maintain
Is is really all that strange
Candles flickering with flames
Some call it inspiration
Others call it a vocation
I treat it like vacation
Retiring from exploitation
Just tryin to maintain
When all they want is shame
Expectin me to explain
Or excuse myself
Or blame
Layin acclaim to my name
So beautiful and plain
Wonderin how my mother came to the conclusion that it's bane
Just trying to maintain
Not seeking to rule or reighn
So happy with simplicity when other simply see the pain
Like the blackened window pane
Or the unkempt slate of the grave
Its just an effort to maintain
While others play the game
Im not boasting or dropping names
Im not seeking your praise
Im not even hoping for the same as others trying to maintain
Just trying to maintain
Against the oddz
Against the grain
In my own simplistic way
Appreciating every day
So you think I must be lame
Cos I dont hope to pave a way
To riches or glories
Those stories bore me
Dont wanna hear those tired tales again
Maybe I'll just pray
Or bow down
Give thanks and praise
To those who came before me
Warring righteously and brave
Just trying to maintain
Already dug a shallow grave
Woke up in a nightmare
And its addled my poor brain
Hope not to repeat again
The mistakes that haunt me everday
Driving me insane
Reminders of them zealous ways
Nevermind the hindsight
Just puttin up them blinders
Like the philly thats led to race regardless of the fact the riders are keeping her childless to realize their wildest dreams

I know this is juvenile
I been writing simple poems since I was 11
I never really tried to excel
But it is enjoyable
I dont do if if I have to actually try
