Or the biggest let down.
Top Dogg, Unreleased Pac and Chronic 2001 tore up the streets then.
2019:
Doggpound 2
New Xzibit
Detox 2019
New Eastsidaz without Snoop
and more

Biggest westcoast year?
You really think anyone outside of this forum and Bomb1st copping DoggPound and EastSidaz albums in 2019? Even Xzibit won't make too much noise in this day and age. I am saying that from the perspective of a person who'd still give those albums a listen, but nah that ain't gonna be it

Baby baby! I sho do love that West Coast baby!

If the rumors are true and X is getting Dre to Executive produce his new album he'll make a buzz.
-
I hope so. Xzibit's still one of my favorite rappers, but i think most people these days know him from Pimp My Ride and the movies & shows he been in.
-
To me 2015 was a year dominated by rappers from the west-coast. You had Snoop, Dre, Kendrick and The Game all release strong albums, plus DJ Quik if I'm not mistaken.
-
I need a new West Coast super group that can keep up with times and involves Crooked I, but not his brothers

EXACTLY .. 2015 WAS PROBABLY THE BEST YEAR OF THE 10'S FOR THE WEST COAST
GAME - DOC 2 & 2.5
DRE - COMPTON
KENDRICK - TO PIMP A BUTTERFLY
VINCE STAPLES - SUMMERTIME 2016
SNOOP - BUSH
JAY ROCK - 90059
LUNIZ - HIGH TIMEZ
THERE'S SOME GOOD RELEASES COMIN NEXT YEAR THO

I think slowly but surely the West will creep back onto the charts.
Already this year with releases from YG, Nipssey and a few underground cats, there's no sign of the West dying down.
It may not ever be like the early 90's or 00's for a while, but at least there's a generation of artists still putting out great material.
In my opinion, so long as TDE is around, the West will always be present on a global scale. We lucky for that.
-
anderson paak could have next.. he right there too
-
^Not trolling and not born in the '90s, and that's not what I was suggesting in my original post at all. But if you want to take it there, yes, the releases Sccit mentioned from 2015 could match up with any year from the '90s. Sure, they're not all classics and may not have had the same impact that the legendary '90s albums had, but give me another year from that era that had so many quality releases like 2015.
-
The West won't be back on top until a whole gang of new producers and artists come around. Even TDE is getting long in the tooth. In hip hop, you have five years before hip hop moves on from you. It is VERY rare that an artist survives truly on top for longer than five years.
And forget Dogg Pound and Eastsidaz, etc. C'mon, I will check for them, because I'm "stuck in the 90s," but young people don't even know who those guys are.
Hip hop is a youth-oriented genre, and by youth, I don't just mean age, but how long you've been in the game. If you've been around longer than ~5 years, audiences tend to tire of you.
