Title: What That Rakim/Dr. Dre Album Could've Sounded Like!!!
Post by: Tha Crip on November 08, 2020, 12:46:22 PM
Pure custom job here, since only a handful of tracks leaked from that era, I had to get creative and mix blends, using what little Ra acapellas out there and instrumentals from "The Wash" and "Bad Boys 2" movies that Dre scored...pretty much made this for peeps who wanted to hear Rakim spittin over Dre beats!!!

it was going to sound like a bit GRODT.

i heard that many beats from GRODT were produced for Rakim's album and dre wanted Rakim to write gangsta rap lyrics on them like 50 did. rakim refused this and decided to leave aftermath. those songs and concept used for 50 later.

Damn that's a dope ass compilation. The album really could've been a masterpiece.
Stat was right when it came to the music though. Rakim is a dope lyricist but to build a dope album, you have to throw in some nice hooks and all that.

hittman a couple months ago said on twitter his favorite dre beat is an unrealised song by rakim.

i remember some rakim interviews he wanted to work with dr dre again.

Don't know if his new album will see the light of the day, its in the work since a long time.

When you 'proper tagged version' what do you mean, sorry?

Love the beat on 'The Last Minutes Outro' wheres the track from? Is it that Burt Bacharach track 'Burt Bacharach - Go Ask Shakespeare'?

Eric B and Rakims 2nd record was one of those times Dre was excited to hear a new album.
Even got up early to go to the record store to pick it up.
He mentioned that in a magazine interview in the 90s.

Imagine if Rakim had hooked up with Dre in an earlier era?

No disrespect but hopefully the real LP would have been A LOT doper than this or the trash that was GRODT.

Real album woulda had better beats for sure...these are just movie score instrumentals...not meant to be rapped over...they were the only Dre beats I could find (from 2001-2002) that fit the Ra acapellas I had...I think it gives it a fresh listen...not familiar Dre beats...I had the Heat/Backdown and Family Affair beats (dre beats Ra has rumoured to have been rapped over or offered) but couldnt get the pellas to fit those beats :-\

Yeah, that's it. I simply add the track numbers of the album and the tracks info properly, as well as the album cover.

Great concept. The first one sounds a lot like a Quik production, but he probably had a large hand in helping Dre during that era. I remember looking forward to a Rakim album on Aftermath, and didn't really care much for 50 Cent. You could have probably inserted any fresh faced rapper in 50's spot to be honest, but I guess he was able to benefit hugely from Rakim's shelved project.

Would it have lived up to the hype? Can never tell with these things. Remember Thy Kingdom Come from King T. You have 50% of the album produced by Dr Dre, and also had Battlecat and DJ Quik on there, and that was considered a flop  ??? 4 Life was a seriously underrated album, and part of the criticisms of that were that it just needed that polished and updated production and some good structure / hooks, something Dre would be able to bring. Thy Kingdom Come album is really good, but most of the Dre tracks do sound a bit repetitive. Could have easily replaced x4 of them in place of another Mike Dean track, a Battletrack and a couple of Quik ones.

The Rakim album is up there in my top 10 of shelved albums

this is a pretty strange post considering thy kingdom come is a classic and only a couple of rakim aftermath joints leaked

Yeah... Kingdom Come was no disappointment... I'm not saying it was classic shit but it definitely would have satisfied the appetites of all Dre's fans in 1998...because we were fucking starving in those days.  That was the summer of No Limit and Da Game Is To Be Sold......  So we really needed that shit to be released when it was supposed to drop... Im still mad about that shit
