intro has its own beat which is an introduction to a joint off rbx album
illmatic is 9 songs and considered the goat east coast album
:ohwell:
there were more songs recorded, but we went for no filler on this one

i’m not comparing the album to illmatic lol
i’m saying an album with 10 tracks can be classic
the comparison is not in the music, but rather in a 10 track album

Still think 9 songs is less we can expect after so much waiting especially when you have enough material for another album/albums. Skits make a impression that there are more songs then actually are which is cheap solution IMO. The singles ale very good, but hey, this is not going to be classic.

the reason we didn’t include more tracks is because we didn’t want any filler so we picked the best songs out of what was recorded
the skits go with the album and tell a story of the recording process, so it ties in. if we wanted to deceive in order to make a false impression (as you’re insinuating) then we wouldn’t label them “skit” lol
if u don’t think 9 songs are enough then i can’t tell u how to feel but we spent a good amount of time on putting together a real project, which means something to us

Wait is over. Album is finished and sent in for pressing. Final release date is July 29, 2022. Mastering just took a bit longer than expected but we’re good now. I think the dub will dig it. But we need sone orders from the dub. So far nobody from here representing really. Show some love for the West. Fatlip has aged like fine wine on this album

Unsure of the direction of the album; I’m a fan of the classic Pharcyde sound, and I’m a huge fan of RBX and Krayzie bone, but I don’t really think their styles mesh…hopefully I’m pleasantly surprised with the album all the same.

Appreciate you doggfather. Trying to figure out the best way to get cheap shipping for you

global shipping to Hungary is 25.
+vat (import charges) is the 30% OF TOTAL.
Item+shipping. thats a robbery IMO, but i have to pay when i order.
With this torpor trough ebay the totel was 61$ to me.

Not demeaning your work, but these shipping to here are really very expensive. It is unfeasible for me, but for sure if I lived in Europe or USA, I would buy up two copies easily.

Getting stuff sent from the US to overseas has always incurred charges like that. DJ Skee sent me a massive parcel of stuff which had such a high value that it was going to cost me over
£500 to get it due to import taxes as he had failed to declare that it wasn't a business transaction but samples and other stuff that I was to show to the big retailers in order to have his mixtapes he was releasing with The Game in to places like HMV, Virgin etc.
I wasn't paying that. It got sent back, I explained the proper way to send it and never heard another thing.

just found this online in regards to bandcamp:
“This is the 20% Apple tax. You cannot sell anything
on iPhone unless you use their store API and they
take 20% on the transaction. As Bandcamp takes
20% already, they would get no revenue.”
if you buy the cd you get a free digital download/stream though

thats just my FANTASY, but i think the real support is to go seen them live (and buy merch ;)).
I THINK they get more money from concerts than sellin music.
Is that correct or just a false tought?

Just listened to that “My Bad” joint in your sig for the first rhyme—good song ya’ll.. what’s the story on the production/mixing side of that one.. sounds like Butch Cassidy on the hook, I know it’s a pharcyde reunion that’s been documented

we wanted to get pharcyde back together so we thought who better to do the hook than the closest thing to nate dogg livin ….. we produced the joint together with jellyroll with some help on live instrumentation from j boykin. i put in OT on the mixing knowing it would be the highlight of the album based on how monumental a reunion was.

yea bro, read the article .. hiphopdx said it right there when they claimed bootie contradictin himself. they got that from our rolling stone article, btw.
basically bootie still has unresolved issues wit the other 3 and didn’t want everyone thinkin theyre back together. since he owns the trademark to the pharcyde name, he froze the other members out and is only willing to fully reunite if there’s a huge offer on the table, which we are actively seeking. but if that doesn’t come through, this very well may be the last pharcyde track with all 4 members.
what’s good bundy.. we been shootin the shit here since the 2000s. any plans on supporting ya folks?

Imo thats legit if u like it and want more. But u aint missin anything. Thats 2 diff thing!

Yo Sccit maybe this is a dumb question but dogg is a master at pickin samples on this one. He got some dope ass samples and a good ear for sound... but could ya'll get sued for that shit? I mean this is an official release so I'm sure you had to do like official paperwork for it and maybe even had a lawyer involed.
Samples was a part of the industry that's always confused me. One of the better hip-hop documentaries out there is called "Scratch" I recommend everyone watch it, it kind of explains why early 90's hip-hop had such a distinct sound we all loved, but that they started getting sued and couldn't use the same sounds after the mid-90's.
Dogg got a little 94' flavor in the sound

it depends on the artist… and if the sample is not cleared, it depends on whether the artist being sampled wants to pursue any action. it’s a crapshoot .. if yes, it usually starts with a cease & desist …. but we handled all our shit on the album accordingly so hopefully there won’t be any issues.

Album definitely exceeded my expectations. It kind of came to me in stages.
1 - First I liked the idea that it was a Fatlip solo album. Like even though there was a team behind it, a listener digests an album better when there is a focal point. Think about all the compilations over the years, it's kind of like meh... but then think about albums like the Chronic how much we loved Snoop, Kurupt, RBX and everybody that contributed, even though they weren't on the cover. So, even though ya'll presented the album and you got key contributions from big names like Krazy, RBX, Butch Cassidy--it was a great move to make it a Fatlip solo.
2 - 2nd point, you guys released one of your first joints from the album "Wake Up" and I got to be honest I wasn't that into it. I mean I was hyped that you had RBX linked in, and then the track and video came and I was just lukewarm on it. Cause you know I got strong political views on the Coward-19 hoax, and I was thinking to myself, "wake up from what? Isn't MO's people on facebook all the time talking about gettin vaxxed and wearin the mask" so that set my interest back a bit. (Later, when I got the album and heard the full sequence it made sense cause it's the opening track after the RBX intro so it actually plays really well as an album cut)
3 - 3rd point, you dropped "Dust in the Wind". Then I was back on board. You got the saxophone and I knew how much of a fan Dogg is of Illmatic, we even bumped it way back in the day on a ride from the airport if you remember--and seeing the direction of the artwork and visuals around the release of the song I could see dogg's pawprints all over it.
4 - Then the Pharcyde reunion, ya'll outdid yourself getting Butch Cassidy to do the hook. It could of just been a Pharcyde reunion and been a big deal but it's actually a great song, and Butch is undeniable. The other Pharcyde track on the album is also a great cut. So it's more than just a reunion these are great songs.
5 - Then I heard Sccit's joint "The Way" with Krayzie Bone and that's when I started to get all in on the project. Because, Sccit has clearly taken his game next level now, like to spar with Krayzie Bone on a track like that is a big deal, and for him to come off strong--the way Sccit comes out of his verse on that joint. That's when I started messaging Sccit like "okay we might have something here".
Now I'm bumping the album daily...all the track are dope, nothing is filler, "February" is a lovely track, like that emotional sound Dogg likes, then "Energy" and "DC" (minus the Trump reference) are bangers, and Sccit did some top notch mixing on "30 Minutes" much props to ya'll. I'll do a more official review later and maybe a youtube video for it to put in my sig.

Was this release mastered in Hi-Res? 24-Bit/44.1 kHz is what Qobuz shows available.

Just grabbed the album from Qobuz. Ran it through a spectrogram. Big Bass Gardner mastered it well - better than most major DSP releases. A lot of music is getting released with 128kbps mp3's as master material and this was not one of them.
Will give it a spin later this week.
Spotify is lossy and is not comparable to CD quality. Better off getting this through Qobuz.

The two Pharcyde joints are the best. I mean.. come on, Pharcyde reunion with Butch Cassidy on the hook (with some ill scratches and mixing) That's hard to top, but the second Pharcyde joint almost does.

I’m kind of an ITunes guy (never used Spotify), and my cd arrived in the mail at my brothers house the day after I left the country. So I was able to give the album a spin for the first time off ITunes yesterday, actually listened to it late after coming home from work. The album has a bit of a meditative quality as well u can even get faded to it and let it play without worrying about skipping tracks.
It won’t be till next summer that I’ll get the physical disc a spin in my car—but what sucks is not having the liner notes. Like Sccit corrected me yesterday I thought the Glove produced “My Bad” but it’s Jelly Roll (well the beat anyway).
I hope Dogg is getting something off ITunes spins, cause being a 90’s guy I don’t understand that aspect of the business

I got the album off bandcamp digitally, I switched to digital years ago, the last physical CD I purchased were the WideAwake joints in probably 2011, The Chronic Re-Lit and The Lost Sessions...nothing beats the anticipation of opening up a new CD though and going through it, not to mention the sound is much better than mp3s

Be sure to check out Qobuz's store offerings. I got Torpor through there. Lots of releases in CD quality or HIGHER. I've found rare CD's on there that sell for a lot physically.

Homie you didn’t cop the physical cd of Compton?? That was the last physical cd I got (before Torpor). For special occasions I still get the physical cd’s. Like this being dubcc fam I copped the physical cd. Before that I got both Lost Sessions and Chronic Relit as you did.
I got LBC Crew Haven’t You Heard on cd 💿 that’s one of my all time favorite releases. I still bump that all the time. My son really loved that album too. Some fond memories of driving around listening to that album with my son when he was 7 going to the Kansas City Royals game. He told my x-wife’s mom the next day he wanted to be Snoop Dogg when he grew up and smoke weed everyday (I couldn’t have been more proud)
Then, Dre’s Compton album was such a huge moment in rap and Dre’s production value must be heard in CD quality. It’s one of those albums that you never forget your first time listening to it. It’s like an event. I still remember my first time putting it in for a spin summer 2015 that was a great day. King Mez sets it off kind of building suspense and I hadn’t heard Dre on record in years so you were wondering how he’d sound at that advanced age and Mez’s voice sort of melted into Dre’s it almost sounded like a young King Mez when Dre first came in.
Dre comes in “I just bought California !!”
Though I didn’t just buy California I had just gotten confirmed for my first legit job ever in my life at age 32 (before that I’d always been wiping assholes in nursing homes for like 12 an hour) so getting a legit teaching job overseas I actually thought I was Dre in the moment.
…so still something special about those physical albums

Yeah, when that NAPSTER/MP3 controversy first blew up in 2000 I was sincerely worried the industry was going to die and that it would ruin rap music as we'd known it in the 90's. I remember when MMLP came out I would get mad at people who downloaded the album and they would be like, "Why do you care how much Eminem makes money he's already rich."
I read a great article back then in Rolling Stone the journalist wrote what your saying Sccit, that the industry would never die because buying music in stores is still an event, and the experience of opening up the cd, looking through the liner notes, putting it in the stereo in high quality for the first time.
But... I do think MP3's did fucc up hip-hop. Because it's more about singles now, when before it was about building anticipation and spending years to make sure the project was right before it was released. You'd get little snippets to wet your appetite, and then you'd be the first one in your hood that knew about it and spread to others, only the DJ's and the Hip-Hop headz knew which artists were gonna be the next big ones to break like Bone, or Outkast, or Eminem--I had all those guys music way before everyone else around my way did.
Now, everyone gets it all instantly, some college nerd at Duke on the computer has all the albums for free, instantly. There's no buildup to a big release.

real talk
and that rolling stone writer was wrong, because buying a cd is no longer an event to the general consensus.. now it’s seen more as a novelty and spotify has put a HUGE dent in the game as far as artists making a living off of music. unfortunate.. just like everything else, technology eventually damages real life.
-

Well, at first it seemed like the journalist was right. Because Napster and MP3 hit big in 2000. But if you remember in 2002-2003 the industry was still somewhat healthy. You had record stores everywhere and you had artists like 50 Cent selling record numbers and then lesser known artists like Xzibit still had gold sales even on one of his lesser albums Man Against Machine. But yeah.. the industry really started to tank after 2007. All the stores started closing down as well, there was really only Best Buy selling cd's.
-
I still have my laptop thats 10 years old with a CD/DVD drive so I do listen to alot of the old stuff on CD still...just for the convenience I switched to digital mostly (I have an Ipod which is older than my laptop) but you guys are right nothing will ever beat the physical copy 8)

yup .. and now even best buy doesn’t sell cds any more.
new cars don’t even come with cd players
the nail in the coffin wasn’t napster.. it’s what napster led to. ipods, which eventually led to smart phones that have access to all music in the world at all times on one app. thievery.

Spotify can still go bankrupt
-
You can have the best of both worlds. I buy physical CD's and rip them into my music server so that I can play them anywhere on practically all of my networkable devices.
Also, you don't have to use Spotify to stream music. Tidal and Qobuz have the same music but in real CD quality or HIGHER.

that access to the best of both worlds worlds killed the more important world, because most people simply don’t buy music due to the availability on multiple pay per month (and sometimes even free) services
so the fact that u buy cds is dope .. but 99% of people nowadays don’t think that way
btw are u active on instagram? i tried to add you recently

best intro i heard for long time.
wake up is not my type of song.
february is another smash hit of the album i think.
energy is definately a banger. one of my fav of the album.
dust in the wind is also very smooth, mellow track. i like it.
my bad is a fucking masterpiece. definately best on the album.
the way could be better with a proper chorus to me. still a good song.
rest 3 songs are again not my type of shit.
but overall i find it very professional and mixed mastered very well. congrats again. proud of you guys!

Finally i am listening right now!

After bumpin this through the weekend february is my jam.
Overall a really good slow album. Lazy melodies and deep lyrics. Perfect for chillin and listening.
Glad to hear butch cassidy (as usually), like the 2 pharcyde track too and energy. Sccit is good on the mic too!
Not sure its gonna be on my top 10 of the year, but def honorable mention.

it’s a group project with 3 of the 4 pharcyde members (imani, fatlip, & slimkid3) .. basically a mixtape they threw together quick to help promote the tour they went on.

Finally just bought this on BandCamp. My apologies for taking so long. Almost hit the physical but times are tough. I'll order in the new year.
I'll get round to it soon. Maybe tonight although the 3rd bottle of wine has just been opened. I was impressed to see how many have supported on there. It might not look like a lot in the grand scheme of things but that's just purchases.
Looking forward to the RBX album. Can't beat 'No Time' though. That's in my top list for sure.

Listening now. I got a phone call from my Czech friends half way through so that threw me a bit but back into it now. Production on point. On My Bad now. It hit me tonight while on BandCamp that i still hadn't got it.
I find it hard to listen to hip-hop these days. I've just moved on. Big listener of Robert Glasper and that camp et al.
I really like this though. looking forward to the RBX album. I can see that filling the gap of music like this that is largely ignored by the internet age. But that means shit. Look at what is popular. It's al trash, generic and soul destroying. This isn't.
The love of the genre and the past shines on this. It's what should be celebrated and appreciated but sadly isn't for the most part. On 'The Way' now. Solid so far.

Get it through Bandcamp and get the best quality.
I had this on again earlier and track 3, I forget the name, had a couple of screams about 1m40s in that made me full on nearly shit myself. Had it playing through the system and it can throw you a bit but I 1) thought it was my loud elderly neighbour doing one of her ear shattering sneezes at maximum velocity, and 2) thought there was a full on murder going on outside the house. Really threw me. Didn't notice it last night but then I have very little recollection of last night.
Album is very nicely mixed and put together. It's defo going to get several plays in the coming weeks. Undecided if it's too short or just the perfect length or not still.
Takes a lot for me to listen to hip-hop these days. I've always been an avid listener of most genre's. Can't imagine listening to it exclusively. FUCK THAT.
Great album, great sound. Annoyed it took me so long to get around to it.

BandCamp Friday again so this is the best day to buy this if you haven't already.
