Been waiting for the single to drop, it could be Suga Free's best song in years (regarding the beat, which seems to be perfect for him), I really like Kokane too on this one.

So the "album sampler" is one song that's luke warm... something tells me the production is in the toilet for the majority of this album. These two deserve DJ Quik from top to bottom. WTF man, common. All these guys are on the downward slope. They should be giving it their best; it's about legacy now.

Previewed it on iTunes.... he really needs to invest in better audio equipment and sound engineers. That quality is shit. It would be such a tragedy if this album ends up being good and the audio kills it.

You can't expect every album to have world class mixing and mastering. The artists we support on this forum are hardly in the mainstream anymore where should they get their budget from? The single sounds tight to me, funky shit.

World class is not what I'm asking for - that's not realistic. I'm asking for basic level competency in sound engineering instead of hiring a fucking moron who doesn't know what he's doing. It's not that difficult these days to properly master.
As far as where they should be getting their budget from: these guys have major connections to other artists - like DJ Quik for example. He'll spend maybe $20 grand on his own album and the sound quality is amazing. Quik also mentioned that he's getting a lot more into mastering because of all he's learned over the years from legends like "Big Bass." Second, these artists still do shows and can still afford to have hobbies like dumping a bunch of cash into a lowrider. Maybe take that cash and invest it into decent production instead for a better return? From where Suga Free is at these days on the production tip, there's nowhere else to go but up.

I think they did a great job on this sample, but I do agree they need (but they will never do it) fix a bit mixing and mastering, because it's one of the best song Suga Free and Kokane have done in recent years.

Word. Paper thin vocals. But the song is fun, funky and upbeat! That's the way I like it.

I was looking forward to a Suga Free / Kokane collab album ...back in 2006! It's taken it's time - maybe some of us old heads will look out for it when it does drop. The first single is OK - not what I was expecting really, a bit tamer than I hoped. I was anticipating something in the vein of the Suga Kane track on Suga Free's Just Add Water album. Something like Nite Locs off the Dogghouse All stars and the new DPG Skip Skip sound. Would really like to see an album with that funk style produced by Quazedelic - Josef Leimberg.

"Stuck In My Ways" and "Playas Touch" are pretty solid to me, but overall it ain't that great album, somehow I still feel too that the mixing and mastering is not really the best, this is one of the main reason I've lost interest in Suga Free new releases.. I paid for his last album and that sounded like shit!

The intro is cool too and has good singing. The 1st single from 2 years ago is cool with that "Lover's Holiday" sample. And "Playas Touch" might be the best song on the album. I like "Shut Up" too and "Stuck in My Ways" also is enjoyable.

Oh for sure, "SugaKane" is the best one from the album, I like the "Lover's Holiday" sample (it's perfect for Suga Free) too, also because the original song was recorded here in Italy :)
