„ MC Ren exclusively told Chad Kiser that the EP title is also the name of the first single, “Osiris”, and that the new single is being produced by Tha Chill of Compton’s Most Wanted.
The Osiris EP will be the Villain’s first release since 2009’s Reincarnated, although throughout the last several years MC Ren has released numerous singles like “Rebel Music” and it’s remix featuring Ice Cube, “Burn Radio Burn” produced by E-A-Ski, “Back At It”, “Lost” with Tha Chill, and “King Villain” produced by Hushdegod.”

In regards to the 'Life Sentence' album that never was...
''Ren began recording for his debut album, at that time called Life Sentence, in late 1992. In the middle of the recording process, Ren suddenly joined the Nation of Islam with guidance from DJ Train. This caused him to scrap Life Sentence, and Shock of the Hour was released in late 1993.''
Anticipation was high following "Kizz My Black Azz," which reached platinum status despite minimal promotion, and a full-length titled "Life Sentence" was announced for an early 1993 release. However, Ren joined the Nation of Islam in 1993 and became inspired to pursue a new lyrical direction. An altered record titled "Shock of the Hour" hit shelves in late 1993.
''Although a lean eleven tracks that are focused musically, "Shock of the Hour" plays like two separate records. The first half, ostensibly the leftovers from "Life Sentence," is hardly a departure from the pistol-waving misogyny of his prior work. Just listened to his old albums and it is kind of sad to hear how the quality of his music has gotten worse over the years. Kizz My Black Azz, Shock of the Hour and The Villain in Black were all very strong. Ruthless for Life was decent, but started the slide. After that the quality of his production has not been stellar and his lyricism suffers.
I will definitely check this out, cause Ren is a legend, but my expectations are not high.

it’s far from whack .. the beats is actually dope. the problem, like astra pointed out, is that mc ren voice sounds totally different on some of the joints. kinda soft. most people will blame that on ren but to me that’s a production issue.
you can tell they fucked wit his vocals properly on “fire” which is actually a dope ass track with ren soundin like ren. same with “time”.. those are the 2 standouts.
either way, good to hear some new villain .. if we get a chance to produce an album for him, we’ll do his vocals right tho. believe that.

i understand this, internet and streaming brought this to the world. but i still think there should be a next physical copy alternative.
kanye's stem player is the only alternative invented today, but something else should be invented.
nowadays RIAA counts pysical copy sales with streaming numbers but we all know that's not fair at all, because playlists makes you listen what they want you to listen, also there are BOT systems raises streaming numbers.

Ren is one of my favorite old school artists, but this project isn't it. I like "Time", but it needs better production and a better mix. As others mentioned, his voice doesn't sound right on some songs.
You can tell he still has it, but he really needs better production.

He's been freestyling verses for about 25 years now. Not always, mind you, but he has been doing it off and on for decades now.

Yeah, it's a problem. I bought a portable CD player with a USB out that I've hooked up to my car stereo. I'm sure you can get a built-in CD player to install in your car's entertainment console on the aftermarket, but I'm not doing that.

But, I agree, there's diminishing reason in releasing hard copies these days as the hardware is becoming more scarce.

so i literally have no way to play cds in my whip …. pretty annoying

You'll probably have to get a CD player with Bluetooth, but the problem with that solution is I don't think Bluetooth transmits data at CD quality1. But if you have CDs that aren't available on streaming services through your phone, that's probably what you'll have to resort to.

I thought this was a pretty good EP. Nice way to test the waters. Album should be coming soon. I'm hoping he isn't done with this yet and has a Few videos coming from this project. I will say this, his vocal mixing wasn't the best on this. But the beats are pretty good.happy to see Ren dropping something although 2015 would of been a better time to of dropped something when we thought he was ...

Man I though I'd never say this about REN. However this EP is not hittin'. I like Ren's lyrics but the hooks are TERRIBLE and it sounds like it was recorded in a burger king bathroom while Humpty Hump was taking a Dumpty Dump after he once got busy. I'm not sure of the mic they used on this or the general audio's compression filter used, but shit was cringe worthy.
