Title: Help!
Post by: abstruse on May 29, 2003, 04:43:44 PM
Need suggestions.  I know my flow when I'm freestyling is on point with the beat, but when I spit off of something written it sounds off and dull. Anyone do something to help them out that have the same problem?

Also, another question. What do you guys use to record your music? Do some of you actually go to a studio, or do you use your computer mics?

Tryin ta sort my flow out n stuff... i find i flow alot better when im freestylin accapella.. You jus gotta fuck around with it.. try n switch speeds, tones of voice, accents.. shit like that...

if your sayin your writtens off beat its cuz you wrote it off beat.. pick a beat that moves you write tot he beat like freestyle as your writing then memorize! if your sayin your written seems dull its cuz your not feelin what you wrote so I suggest pick something that motivates you or something that has inspired you and write baout that...  tip of suggestion most creative people reach there peak from 5 p.m. till 3 a.m.

good luck

^Yeah, its probably because you wrote it slightly off beat, analyze professional rap songs and understand how rappers flow on a beat, when they pause, when they go fast, slow etc.  Don't write your lyrics in a keystyle-pattern, just bump the beat on loop and visulize yourself flowing to it, then write down the lines along with your mental freestyle flow.  After that, a good idea would be to memorize the lyrics, so when you rap them, you don't focus on reading them, and instead can concentrate fully on the beat patterns and flow.  Practise a lot, it takes a while to get an understanding, peace
