Thankfully the Europeans came to this continent and brought civilization and progress.

The Spaniards were amazed when they first arribed where the Aztecs had their main city. It was a city build around water. The city was called Tenochtitlan. They had fine libraries and archives where priests and scholars kept records of imporantn historiical, religios and philosophical thought. They had CANALS!!! That connected different cities to transport food and so on. The canals were connected to the soil so they wouldnt need to wait for it to rain so they can grow their corn , etc etc. There was a complex of over thiry public buildings which included places of the nobles, temples, schools or academies for the sons of the wealthy, and EVEN A ZOO/ and because of its canals the Spaniards described Tenochtitilan "the Venice of the Americas". and im just touching on the culture....Civilization was already there...but it was mostly arts, agriculture, and philosophy type of things.

LMAO... CWalker's comment has to be the dumbest made. Civilization to this continent? The Aztecs are up there with the Sumerians and Egyptians when it comes to ancient CIVILIZATIONS. Damn, you're an idiot. Please, if you don't know what you're talking about, don't say anything.

Aztecs were very civilized or wait, was it their calander that is on point? cuz if its theirs then they were one of the most fully conscious civilizations on earth.

The Aztec calendar is not as accurate as the Mayan Calendar. The mayans have a pyramid that at one point in few years...the sun hits the pyramid creating a shadow that has a snake moving.

We will never really know the truth behind the Aztecs. See they burned our books, stole our culture, killed our chiefs, slaughtered the women and children ... there was less the 300 hundred left ... when cortez attacked the Aztec in the patio ... the Spanish will tell you that the Aztec were uncivilized ... but the artifacts tell us different ... some say that Aztec believe is deities. Other will tell you they only believed in one God. I heard they were devil worshipers ... then i heard they were not ... it is actually debatable... i took history 100 twice.. with different instructors... i dropped the first time.. because this white bitch told me i was not Indian.. that i was probably a mixed of Spanish and something else ... but she didn't know what she was talking ... she doesn't know my grandfather's stories ... then she told me there was no way.. I could be California Indian ... but she doesn't know my great uncle Paul's strugglers with the Mormons and the Spanish settlers...
Then I have a Real Professor ... who said yes. You are Aztec and you paiute... you know your history from your family that is accurate to documented stories....
So, it is hard to say what is true and untrue ... one group will say that the Aztec were mean and savage.. Then one group will tell you.. they were advanced and civilized....
I think they were civilized ... because that is what my family history tells me ... and that is a reflection of who I am....
In my book the cortez was the savage one.. He wanted to kill the Aztec off that day in the Patio ... the Spanish king didn't want cortez to bother them...because of trade.....

Guys, we all went to school too. I thought you said they didn't teach anything but white history in school? Everybody knows about the mayans and the aztecs.

the aztec were never a topic up intill college.... i remember makining a california mission in 3 rd... to this day i have beening trying to figure out what the fuck was the point of that... in high school.. i took two years of history.. the required amount... which was World history... which cover european history.. teacher even admitted to that... on parent teachers night..... then american history.. which was polically correct... wouldnt want to offend anyone....
junior high school we did the romans... and slavery....

Fact is,it's a well-known thing that the Aztecs were highly developed.
And yes,history taught at schools is mosty European history. Though the history of other cultures is equally interesting.

not everybody know about the mayans and aztecs. There are AP European Classes in most High Schools, while only a few mexican american classes in Los Angeles alone.

and the purpose of making that mission noDICKvanDYKE was to have fun with an art project concerning california history....and missions were a VERY huge deal in early cali history , does helen hunt jackson ring a bell? the fact that you can't figure out the whole mission thing retards your agrument
and as someone with aztec blood in them .....and who got school by his grandparents a bajillion times about the hisotry ect. they were very civilized.....but at the same time so were the spanish .....if you look how modern sw society is it's a blend of all the good characteristics of BOTH societies.....which is progression........nothing to be ashamed abou

i go to south tahoe high, i had a world history class sophmore year where we learned about mostly europe and asia, and had a small unit on the middle east. JR year, i hada US history class, this year im a senior and i have no history classes so i doubt ill learn about it this year.

come to think about it.. i dont recall learning any important historical facts in high school.... everyone was made to look like a hero.... rather then to true facts.... like honest Abe... Who freed the slave to save the union...i didnt know that fact untill after high school... and about the nam war... we were fighting communism.. which is bad... but then you start reading different shit... and it opens your eyes.... master guns told me that we were in vietnam because we wanted the perious mentals... and my dad basically told me the same thing... but fighting communism.. was a good reason to start a war....
i really wouldnt trust high school history... everything is alter to make fools into heros...

Mexica (Me-sh-i-ca) history, (or Aztec as they are called by the Spanish) was one of the most civilized cultures in the world. But, the Incas and the Mayans were most so, well in terms of technology. Oh, and I was talking to real Mexicas (or Aztec) who live still in the tradition, and we did belive in one God. Only we believed that he was a shape shifter, and that he came down in different forms. In fact, the day that Cortez came, it was believe that the God would come from the Ocean, on a cloud (the big sails) and we would have hair of fire, (Spanish of course have red hair and beards) and would change the world as the Mexica know is. It was predicted on that day in the calendar, so when Cortez landed, we had gifts ready for him, which is way he saw the Empire as a gold mine. Of course our history isn't all great. We usually conquered other tribes, and enslaved them, like in ancient Middle Eastern times, around the Bible times. We were NOT canibals though, as that was what the Spanish wrote to dehumanize us so that it was just to conquer our Empire. And we thought Cortez was god, especially when everyone started dying of disease, so it was a very short war, in which the Spanish won of course. Also, I heard stories that when the Virgin Mary was seen by Juan Diego, it was at the sight of an old temple, in which a goddess would look down on the Mexica and make sure the crops grew. So when the Virgin Mary was seen, some connect it too Mary always looking out for the Mexica, which is way many Mexicans feel a special connection to the Virgin. Just random Mexica facts. Oh and we did call our selves that, which in Spanish is Mexica (Me-he-k-ah) since sh sound does not exist in Spanish. And since ah sound is female in Spanish, and to be female is weak, they changed it to oh, or Mexico (me-he-co), so the name Mexico comes from Mexica.

but miss noDICKvanDYKE over here is in LA and barely learned about that shit in college??....something is wrong here. to live in la and be mexican and not be aware of your culture until college is HER bad not the schools.....i have a grip of family in LA and they know their history
