Crash injures former Calgary hockey star

A former Calgary hockey player has now been charged with reckless driving after a horrible crash that sent him and another player to hospital.

Danny Heatley, who plays for the Atlanta Thrashers, lost control of his Ferrari, crashing it into a wall while driving about 130 kilometres an hour.

Heatley suffered a broken jaw, his teammate Dan Snyder remains in critical condition with a fractured skull.

Heatley started his minor hockey career in Calgary.

One of his former coaches spoke to Global news today.

Don Phelps of the Calgary Canucks says he was surprised to hear about the crash based on Danny's character.

Heatley's parents live in Calgary and have already left the city to go to Atlanta to be with their son.

We'll have more reaction on Global news at 6:00.
