This is how to get on mIRC, and download music/games/musicvideoz/movies from either BOTS or F Serves.
BUY THE ALBUMS IF YOU LIKE THEM.
Also Chat about music, games, movies etc. with fellow rats.
(See explanation about F Serves & BOTS in their respective sections)
Note:
* mIRC is free.
They might want you to register it, but you don't have to if you do not wish.
This is Version 5, where I have added & simplified a lot, and improved the "ERRORS and FAQS", and also "TIPS and TRICKS" sections.
TIPS AND TRICKS is for the more advanced users, who knows the basics, and want to be more efficient and download and search easier.
Downloading DCCAssist is recommended for all users, as it makes life on mirc a lot easier. (See own section)
Step 1: Downloading mIRC
Download mIRC HERE (http://www.mirc.com)
Step 2: The Installation
Install it, follow the instructions. Like any other program..
Step 3: Setting up mIRC
Open up mIRC, and go into the OPTIONS on the left side, choose CONNECT, and go to IRC NETWORK on the right side.
Choose EFNET, and in the box below choose a server near your location. (In my case, Oslo)
In the box NICK-NAME, type your prefered name, in my case Jome.
Choose a unique name, e.g. NOT 2Pac (It may be taken already)
To change nick later on, simply type:
/nick Mynick
in one of the channels.
While still in OPTIONS, go left again, and find OPTIONS under the CONNECT-option, click OPTIONS, and open the "PERFORM"-button on the right side.
Check the box "Enable perform on connect".
Note that you can set up mirc to join different channels on each server (Add/delete), change the topdown menu to change server, e.g. EFnet, Rizon, etc.
See the DCCAssist section for how to join multiple networks. EFnet & Rizon is two of the biggest networks for music.
In the box you write in the channels you want to join when mIRC starts up, in my case I've written these in for the different networks:

Some channels might be locked/closed down, temp or permanent.
You can set mirc up to join any network/channel, these are just a few examples.
You can be in as many channels as you want.
To join your fav. channel on startup, use the command:
/join #mychannel
NOW HIT OK to save your changes.
Step 4: Starting up with mIRC
Now click the CONNECT-button, and you'll be taken to all the channels you have set it up to join.
You can be in dozens of channel at once, and just hit the channel-button to go back and forth from them.
Here you can just talk or download music.
Step 5: Downloading music
If you want to set your mIRC up to download music, do this:
In OPTIONS, go to DCC and see under ON SEND REQUEST.
If you have this set to IGNORE ALL, you will not be able to receive files.
Therefore you choose SHOW GET DIALOG, and then you will be asked when someone sends you a file. That's for your own safety, but if you have antivirus/firewall installed and want to receive files automatically, choose instead AUTO-GET FILE. (Warning: Dangerous if you don't have anti-virus)
In a channel you can download music if it's set up to do so.
#Westcoastconnection doesn't usually have music to download, unless you ask in the channel, and then maybe someone will send it to you.
Bigger channels like #Distribution or #gangsta-vibez have been set up to serve files, and here you can dowload music from either a F SERVE or a BOT.
NOTE: Asking TOO much, or personal messaging repeated times asking for shit can get you banned from the channel.
Ask TOO much, and you will be kicked or banned, normal manners apply.
Ask for a track/album in the channel once or twice, but not MSG everyone, and repeat yourself over and over.
F SERVES
(F Serves = when regular people/users set their computer up to serve files, kinda like WinMX/Kazaa, but it works more like MS-DOS)
F Serves is good for single files, not so good for downloading multiple files/albums.
To see if a channel contains a F SERVE, type the command
!List
in the channel.
The results will be shown as this:

^^ This is a F SERVE ad, and here you can DL music from by typing one of the TRIGGERS in the channel.
The triggers here is: !Musicvidz || !Albums || !Hot Singles || !Unsorted Music-library || Mofo's still aint banned it
5 Triggers in all, depending on what you want.
If you want Music-videos, type this trigger in the channel:
!Musicvidz
Now you will be taken to a new window, with all the music-videos.
To see what videos or mp3s there is to offer, type the command
DIR in this new window, all files will be listed.
To get a file, type the command: GET <Filename>
In example:
GET Cassidy-freestyle-fua.mp3
Now you will either be sent the mp3, or you will be in the queue to download it. You will be in the queue as long as you are in the channel.
To get into a folder, let's say there is 2 folders with music-vidz, one called NEW VIDZ and another called OLD VIDZ.
To get into NEW VIDZ, type the command:
CD NEW VIDZ
To see the content of the folder: DIR
to get out of the folder again, type:
cd..
Remember that if you get an error, you might be trying to get a whole folder.
Example: VA-Kanye_West-Im_Good-2003-WHOA
(This is a FOLDER and not a file, and you must use the CD command, and not the GET command.)
Commands on the F Serve:
cd, ls, dir, read, get, stats, who, sends, queues, clr_queues, terms, cd..
NOTE: !List can get you banned in some channels, see topic or what other people do.
BOTS
(Bots = Short for robots, it's a virtual "person" in the channel, set up to receive commands and send you stuff, normally on a very fast line)
Bots are easier to Download from, as there's just a few commands.
A bot will advertise it's content in the channel, and a ad. might look like this:
<RMZ-DCC83> #1 213x [ 95M] VA-Kanye_West-Im_Good-2003-WHOA
If you want this Kanye compilation, you QUERY the actual bot.
Right-click the bot, and hit "Query", and give this command to the bot to get this file:
XDCC SEND #1
This will send you pack number 1, which Kanye is here.
You can tell by the ad that this advance is 95 MB big, and that 213 people have downloaded it.
You can also type this command in the channel to get the album:
/msg RMZ-DCC83 xdcc send #1
Download DCCASSIST to do this automatically, much easier, see later in thread.
If you want to know what a BOT has to offer, QUERY the bot this:
XDCC LIST
Now you can see in the channel what the bot has to offer.
So the most important commands on bots, is
XDCC SEND #1 (or 2,3,4,5 etc.) or XDCC REMOVE to remove yourself from the queue.
And remember to QUERY the bots, not type them in the channel.
There's a LOT of bots in channels like
#Distribution
#Rap-albums (On Rizon network)
etc.
Just wait for the bots to advertise their content in the channel, and DCCAssist will pick up the info.
In some channels, you can type XDCC LIST in the channel to see what all the bots have to offer, but this will get you banned 60% of the time.
For easier downloading off bots, try "DCCAssist", a plugin for mIRC.
Follow the instructions in "TIPS and TRICKS".
TIPS and TRICKS
Want to Download off bots in a much easier way ??
DCCAssist (http://www.dccassist.com/) @ DCCAssist.com (http://www.dccassist.com/) is the solution for easy downloading.
This is a plugin for mIRC which will automate the "xdcc send #x" process, and list all the albums in a neat list.
Download DCCAssist, and install it. (Read the "Readme" file proper, and restart mIRC when installed)
Now you will get up 2 extra windows. (If you don't get them, right-click in a channel and choose "DCCAssist" and click "View Packs")
Window #1: DA.Packs
Will show you all the albums/singles etc. advertised on bots in a list. Sort them alphabetically for easy DL. (Do that by right-clicking the Packs-window, and choose "Sorting" and then "By Description")
Double-click a album, and it will start downloading.
Update the list by pressing TAB (The button over Caps Lock), when you have been on mIRC for 20-30 minutes.. the list should now be complete.
Window #2: DA.Status
Will show the status of your requested download. Like this:
Requested -> Waiting -> Queued (17) -> Receiving (w. current speed) -> Complete (Completed packs will show up in the 3rd window as well)
The status can also be "Failed" or "Offline" or "Connection lost" if something goes wrong with the connection.
Window #3: DA.Log
A log over all the albums you have downloaded.
This is how DCCASSIST looks when properly set up:

(Here you can see what channels & bots the albums are on, how big they are, etc)
NOTE:
To get a list of albums this big, you will need to be on 8 to 15+ channels, and wait approx. 20 minutes so that ALL the BOTS can advertise their packs.
To join multiple servers on startup:
Go into DCCAssist OPTIONS:
Hit "Networks", and under "All" you select the network you want to join on startup, and hit the ">" sign to add them to the right window.
Check "Use at startup", then APPLY and OK.

In the screenshot you see 6 different networks added to the "use at startup" at the right side of the screen.
Now, go into "PERFORM" under regular mIRC OPTIONS:
Enable/check "Enable perform on connect" on the different networks, and put up the list of channels you want to join. (See list earlier in the thread)

Hit the "Add"-button to add the same servers you added in DCCAssist options, and the different /join-commands for each network.

Just do the same with other networks, and do /join-commands on the channels you want to join.
Note from DCCAssist-author BlackAle:
You can add channels for each network to the profile aswell, thus you don't need to use miRC's perform on connect.

Download Winrar to unrar RAR, ZIP, TAR-files etc. from WINRAR.DE (http://www.winrar.de/)
This is a way of packaging files in one file to make downloading several files easy.
Winrar also handles Zip-files and many more, and is by many considered better than Winzip.
BIN and CUE-files
Burn these to a CD, and they will auto-play when you open the CD.
Note:
If you don't wanna burn the file, you can also 'unpack' it with a program such as IsoBuster or Daemon tools
ISOBUSTER (http://www.download.com/IsoBuster/3000-2248_4-10351230.html?tag=lst-0-1), DAEMON TOOLS (http://www.daemon-tools.cc/dtcc/portal/portal.php)
It works just like rar/zip, and works as a virtual CD-rom.
Searching for channels
If you want to join channels with e.g. porn or PS2, you can write this command in the channel:
/list xxx
or
/list rock
or
/list ps2
or
/list playstation
Now a window will pop up, with the results. Pretty efficient.
From here you can also see the topic, and how many users the channels have.
Use the search-words you want, hiphop, rap, mp3, ps2, vcd, etc...
ERRORS AND FAQ
ERROR:
Your mIRC crashes all the time.
Install the latest mIRC versio, make sure to always have the latest version.
A bug in mIRC 6.x - 6.11 can cause other people to crash your mIRC.
ERROR:
-DAYmp3-03- *** You have a DCC pending, Set your client to receive the transfer. (30 seconds remaining until timeout)
Do this to get the file:
Go into
OPTIONS --> DCC --> IGNORE --> Where it says "Method", change it to "IGNORE ONLY".
REMEMBER TO RESTART MIRC after you have done this, or it probably won't work.
ERROR:
#musichq Cannot send to channel.
This means that the channel is muted/moterated, and only operators & voices can talk in here.
You will not be able to talk in the biggest channels usually..
#rapmp3z is MUTED, meaning that you can't talk in there.
You can however type TRIGGERS & get music of BOTS.
Just wait until the file-server triggers gets advertised, and the bots advertise their content.
Then, type their F Serve triggers and give the bots commands..
The reason why it's muted, is because big channels have 500-2000 people, and if everybody wrote sumthin, it would be chaos.. and to avoid spammers..
ERROR:
#hiphopmp3 unable to join channel (need correct key)
or
#hiphopmp3 unable to join channel (invite only)
or
#hiphopmp3 unable to join channel (you are banned)
What it says basically.. you need a password for the channel, someone needs to invite you, or they just wanted to get rid of your monkey ass!
ERROR:
If your Download cuts off because your speed is too low:
Some people don't like that people with below a certain speed download from them.
I got cable myself, and believe me.. it's irritating as hell to wait 10 hours for some dude to download "Nellyville",
when you're desperately trying to get the latest Gangstarr release or something...
ERROR:
You get a message saying something like:
<[memo[> [Warning] The EFNet HouseMaid's has detected you are infected with a IRC TROJAN Virus. My onjoin scanner reported a IRC Trojan on your Computer. If you don´t remove this Virus within the next 30 minutes I will notify the IRCOPS of EFNET, which will ban you from the network.
To fix the problem get EFNetCleaner at (Link: http://www.acomweb.com/acess/browserpatch.html)
99.9% of the time, messages like this is BULLSHIT.
Ignore ALL messages from people you don't know. Just like with e-mail, there's also spammers on mIRC, wether you like it or not.
DO NOT run these programs/click link these links, they're usually virus or bad codes.

A: You can't. People with "@" in front of their names is channel operators, and can kick you or ban you if you act up.
People with @ is operators, and people with + is voices. Voices cant do anything, but they can talk in the channel if the channel is moderated.

A: Go into OPTIONS --> DCC --> IGNORE --> Under "FILE TYPE" you change what files to ignore or not to ignore.
QUESTION:
Q: I want to change the default "My sounds" or "Download" folder, how do I do that ?
A: Go into:
OPTIONS -> DCC -> FOLDERS ->
Where it says "DCC GET FOLDERS", hit "Edit" underneath to change the folder.
By changing "Default" in the box to "*wav, *mid, *mp3", you can change both the "Download"-folder AND the "Sound"-folder.
QUESTION:
Q: The zip-file says "Damaged or broken file" or something similar.
"Error reading header after processing 3 entries." etc...
A: Not much to do, try downloading the file again.
This can happen when you have a mismatch on a resumed download.
Alternatively, the file is only partly downloaded, or the download isn't finished.
To block spammers:

1) on 'step 5' if someone doesnt send u stuff dont get mad.
2) on 'step 5' notice he said ask 'in the channel' you're even less likely to get stuff by private messaging everyone. actually you're more likely to get banned from the channel.
3) !list can get you banned from some channels, if its not one jome listed keep an eye out for people doing it.

I've been using mIRC for a couple of days now (and visiting #Nuttermp3z constantly), and everything has been working fine, up until now. I'm currently trying to (re)join #Nuttermp3z, but I keep on getting a message saying, "#Nuttermp3z can't join channel (invite only)." What's wrong, and what should I do?

Do this:
Go into
OPTIONS --> DCC --> FOLDERS --> Where it says "DCC Ignore", change it from "IGNORE ALL" to "DISABLED"
Now you should be able to DL from bots.

Bots is easier to DL from, as there's just a few commands.
A bot will advertise it's content in the channel, and a ad. might look like this:
<RMZ-DCC83> #1 213x [ 55M] Cormega-The_True_Meaning_(Advance)-2002-CMS
If you want this Cormega advance, you QUERY the actual bot.
This command you give the bot to get this file:
XDCC SEND #1
This will send you pack number 1, which Cormega is here.
You can tell by the ad that this advance is 55 MB big.
If you want to know what a BOT has to offer, QUERY the bot this:
XDCC LIST
Now you can see in the channel what the bot has to offer.
So the most important commands on bots, is
XDCC LIST and XDCC SEND #1 (or 2,3,4 etc.)
And remember to QUERY the bots, not type them in the channel.

#rapmp3z is MUTED, meaning that you can't talk in there.
You can however type TRIGGERS & get music of BOTS.
Just wait until the file-server triggers gets advertised, and the bots advertise their content.
Then, type their F Serve triggers and give the bots commands..

I downloaded "Geto_Boys-Grip_it_on_that_Other_Level-1990-OSR" and the transfer completed. Then I go to open it up with WinZip as I do after I download other albums and I get this message:
Error after reading header after processing 0 entries.
And it won't open the file.
Anyone knows what to do so I can open it.

I got cable myself, and believe me.. it's irritating as hell to wait 10 hours for some dude to download "Nellyville", when you're desperately trying to get the latest 8Mile release or sumthin...

Just a minute or less after I entered a f serve there's this message
Closing Idle connection in 30 seconds
and 30 seconds later it's
DCC session closed
When i write get ... befor and it closes then the download window comes up but it won't start downloading

Here's how to get on mIRC, and download music from either BOTS or F Serves.(F Serves is when people set their computer up to serve files, kinda like WinMX/Kazaa)
Step 1: Download mIRC HERE (http://www.mirc.com)
Step 2: Install it, follow the instructions.
Step 3: Open up mIRC, and go into the OPTIONS on the left side, choose CONNECT, and go to IRC NETWORK on the right side. Choose EFNET, and in the box below choose a server near your location. (In my case, Aarhus or Oslo)
In the box NICK-NAME, type your prefered name, in my case LiL|Jome.
Choose a unique name, e.g. NOT 2Pac
It could be taken already.
While still in OPTIONS, go to the left again, and find PERFORM under the IRC-option.
Check the box "On Connect, Perform these commands".
In the box you write in the channels you want to join when mIRC starts up, in my case I've written these in:
/join #WestCoastConnection
/join #Nuttermp3z
/join #Rapmp3z
etc.
If you want to set your mIRC up to download music, do this:
Still in OPTIONS, go to DCC and see under ON SEND REQUEST.
If you have this set to IGNORE ALL, you will not be able to receive files. Therefore you choose SHOW GET DIALOG, and then you will be asked when someone sends you a file.
NOW HIT OK
Step 4: Now click the CONNECT-button, and you'll be taken to all the channels you have set it up to join.
You can be at dozens of channel at once, and just hit the channel-button to go back and forth from them.
Here you can just talk or download music.
Tip: If you want to join channels with e.g. porn, you can write this command in the channel:
/list xxx
or
/list porn
Now a window will pop up, with the results. Pretty efficient.
From here you can also see the topic, and how many users the channels have.
Use the search-words you want, hiphop, rap, mp3 etc...
STEP 5: Downloading music
In a channel you can dl music if it's set up to do so.
#Westcoastconnection doesn't usually have music to download, unless you ask in the channel, and then maybe someone will send it to you.
#Nuttermp3z or #Rapmp3z has been set up to serve files, and here you can dowload music from either a F SERVE or a BOT.
NOTE: Asking TOO much, or personal messaging repeated times asking for shit can get you banned from the channel.
!list can also get you banned in some channels.
!List wont get you banned in #Nuttermp3z or #Westcoastconnection though!! But ask TOO much, and you will be kicked or banned.
Normal manners apply.
Ask for a track/album in the channel once or twice, but not MSG everyone, and repeat yourself over and over.
F SERVES:
To see if a channel contains a F SERVE, type the command
!list
in the channel.
The results will be shown as this:

^^ This is my F SERVE, and here you can DL music from by typing one of the TRIGGERS in the channel.
The triggers here is: !Musicvidz || !Albums || !Hot Singles || !Unsorted Music-library || Mofo's still aint banned it
5 Triggers in all, depending on what you want.
If you want Music-videos e.g. type this trigger in the channel:
!Musicvidz
Now you will be taken to a new window, with all my music-videos.
To see what videos or mp3z I have to offer, type the command
DIR in this new window.
To get a file, type the command: GET <Filename>
In example:
GET eminem-without_me-svcd-2002-distend-uvz.m2v
Now you will either be sent the music-video, or you will be in the queue to dowload it. You will be in the queue as long as your in the channel.
To get into a folder, let's say I got 2 folders with music-vidz, one called NEW VIDZ and another called OLD VIDZ.
To get into NEW VIDZ, type the command:
CD NEW VIDZ
To see the content of the folder: DIR
to get out of the folder again, type:
cd..
Remember that if you get an error, you might be trying to get a whole folder.
E.G.: JAY-Z-BLUEPRINT_2-THE_GIFT_AND_THE_CURSE_(BOOTLEG)-2002-THB
^^^ This is a FOLDER and not a file, and you must use the CD command, and not the GET command.

Whenever you get these messages, it's 99% sure that it's spam or virus.
Unless you know the person that PM's you of course.
Best thing to do, is ignore the person, and add them to IGNORE-list.
And whatever you do, do not install ANYTHING that these foos tell you to.
It can fuck up mIRC, and if you're unlucky, your C-drive can be gone in a minute.

Nice work...yo that msg is most definatly a virus...as mirc suggests try to only accept files that you have requested or from people you know and trust...there are alot of crazy niggaz getting kicks from destroying your pc.
Files that are commonly dangerous are .txt (often contain hidden extension such as .shs (virus) .exe and .bat are equally dodgy.
Just use common sense..if u have recieved a file u have no idea what it is or who it came from, DONT open it, shift+delete it immediatly.
Thankfully there are no known viri attached to mp3 or video extension yet.

Means that the channel is +M (Muted/Moderated)
Only operators or voices can speak in such channels..
You can still do triggers, and /msg bots.. just not talk in the channel..
The reason why it's muted, is because big channels have 500-2000 people, and if everybody wrote sumthin, it would be chaos.. and to avoid spammers..

Actually I have almost the same problem with the "Many men" video..
I can watch like 20 seconds, then it turns into slow motion and skipping.. but if I rewind 5 seconds, I can suddenly watch 30 secs more until the skipping starts again.
This problem also occurs with the "Kurupt ft. Nate Dogg - Behind the walls"-video.
It's not the program or gfx-card, cuz the videos doesn't work with neither Light Alloy, WMP 6.4, WMP 9.0 or Winamp 3.0
All other music-vidz work fine for me..
I think it's 1 of 2 solutions:
1: The video wasn't ripped proberly, or there is some errors in the actual rip.
2: The m2v/mpg-codec that I/we are using, has a bug in it. I have tried to reinstall the codec, but it still bugs.

k, i think it's the m2v codec cuz not all other videos work for me either.. i have thesame problem with WSC's It's The Holidaze or WC's The Streetz or KRS' Hot and a few more..

The great thing is that this reinstalls the codec, so the vids now work with WMP, Light Alloy & Winamp too.. great stuff.

OPTIONS --> DCC --> FOLDERS --> Under the option "DCC Get folders", change it to "Default"..

dont hit /msg "nick" xdcc send #1 do /ctcp nick xdcc send #1 instead, when i check my bot i have hundreds of open msg windows because people msg me with requests instead of ctcp'ing the request. I just start putting all of them in the ignore list. also do not request the same file 32948729384 times, do it once and look out for mesages from the bot.

Here's how to get on mIRC, and download music from either BOTS or F Serves.
(F Serves is when people set their computer up to serve files, kinda like WinMX/Kazaa,
but it works more like MS-DOS)
This is Version 3, where I have added & simplified a lot, and best of all:
added "ERRORS and FAQS", and also "TIPS and TRICKS".
TIPS AND TRICKS is for the more advanced users, who knows the basics, and want to be more efficient.
Step 1: Download mIRC
Download mIRC HERE (http://www.mirc.com)
Step 2: Installation
Install it, follow the instructions.
As any other program..
Step 3: Setting up mIRC
Open up mIRC, and go into the OPTIONS on the left side, choose CONNECT, and go to IRC NETWORK on the right side.
Choose EFNET, and in the box below choose a server near your location.
(In my case, Aarhus or Oslo)
In the box NICK-NAME, type your prefered name, in my case LiL|Jome.
Choose a unique name, e.g. NOT 2Pac (It can be taken already)
To change nick later on, type:
/nick Mynick
in one of the channels.
While still in OPTIONS, go to the left again, and find PERFORM under the IRC-option.
Check the box "On Connect, Perform these commands".
In the box you write in the channels you want to join when mIRC starts up, in my case I've written these in:
/join #WestCoastConnection
/join #Nuttermp3z
/join #Rapmp3z
/join #xmp3
/join #mp3dcc
/join #mixtapegodz
/join #rap-mp3
/join #bay2la
/join #musichq
/join #0daymp3
/join #rvppc
/join #gangstamp3z
/join #albums
/join #beats4free
/join #hiphopmp3
etc.
You can be in as many channels as you want.
To join your fav. channel on startup, use the command:
/join #mychannel
NOW HIT OK to save your changes.
Step 4: Starting up with mIRC
Now click the CONNECT-button, and you'll be taken to all the channels you have set it up to join.
You can be at dozens of channel at once, and just hit the channel-button to go back and forth from them.
Here you can just talk or download music.
Step 5: Downloading music
If you want to set your mIRC up to download music, do this:
In OPTIONS, go to DCC and see under ON SEND REQUEST.
If you have this set to IGNORE ALL, you will not be able to receive files.
Therefore you choose SHOW GET DIALOG, and then you will be asked when someone sends you a file. For your own safety, but if you have antivirus/firewall ready:
Then you can automatically receive files, choose instead AUTO-GET FILE. (Warning: Dangerous if you don't have anti-virus)
In a channel you can dl music if it's set up to do so.
#Westcoastconnection doesn't usually have music to download, unless you ask in the channel, and then maybe someone will send it to you.
Bigger channels like #Rapmp3z or #Gangstamp3z have been set up to serve files, and here you can dowload music from either a F SERVE or a BOT.
NOTE: Asking TOO much, or personal messaging repeated times asking for shit can get you banned from the channel.
Ask TOO much, and you will be kicked or banned, normal manners apply.
Ask for a track/album in the channel once or twice, but not MSG everyone, and repeat yourself over and over.
F SERVES
To see if a channel contains a F SERVE, type the command
!List
in the channel.
The results will be shown as this:

^^ This is my F SERVE, and here you can DL music from by typing one of the TRIGGERS in the channel.
The triggers here is: !Musicvidz || !Albums || !Hot Singles || !Unsorted Music-library || Mofo's still aint banned it
5 Triggers in all, depending on what you want.
If you want Music-videos, type this trigger in the channel:
!Musicvidz
Now you will be taken to a new window, with all my music-videos.
To see what videos or mp3z I have to offer, type the command
DIR in this new window.
To get a file, type the command: GET <Filename>
In example:
GET Cassidy-freestyle-fua.mp3
Now you will either be sent the mp3, or you will be in the queue to dowload it. You will be in the queue as long as you are in the channel.
To get into a folder, let's say I got 2 folders with music-vidz, one called NEW VIDZ and another called OLD VIDZ.
To get into NEW VIDZ, type the command:
CD NEW VIDZ
To see the content of the folder: DIR
to get out of the folder again, type:
cd..
Remember that if you get an error, you might be trying to get a whole folder.
E.G.: VA-Kanye_West-Im_Good-2003-WHOA
(This is a FOLDER and not a file, and you must use the CD command, and not the GET command.)

cd, ls, dir, read, get, stats, who, sends, queues, clr_queues, terms

NOTE: !List can get you banned in some channels, see topic or what other people do.
BOTS
Bots is easier to DL from, as there's just a few commands.
A bot will advertise it's content in the channel, and a ad. might look like this:
<RMZ-DCC83> #1 213x [ 95M] VA-Kanye_West-Im_Good-2003-WHOA
If you want this Kanye advance, you QUERY the actual bot.
Give this command to the bot to get this file:
XDCC SEND #1
This will send you pack number 1, which Kanye is here.
You can tell by the ad that this advance is 95 MB big, and that 213 people have downloaded it.
You can also type this command in the channel to get the album:
/msg RMZ-DCC83 xdcc send #1
If you want to know what a BOT has to offer, QUERY the bot this:
XDCC LIST
Now you can see in the channel what the bot has to offer.
So the most important commands on bots, is
XDCC LIST and XDCC SEND #1 (or 2,3,4,5 etc.)
And remember to QUERY the bots, not type them in the channel.
There's a LOT of bots in channels like
#Rapmp3z
#xmp3
#mixtapegodz
#rvppc
#gangstamp3z
etc.
Just wait for the bots to advertise their content in the channel..
In some channels, you can type XDCC LIST in the channel to see what all the bots have to offer, but this will get you banned 80% of the time.
ERRORS AND FAQ
ERROR:

Do this to get the file:

Remember to restart mIRC, after you have done this, or it probably won't work.
ERROR:
#musichq Cannot send to channel.
This means that the channel is muted/moterated, and only operators & voices can talk in here.
You will not be able to talk in the biggest channels usually..
#rapmp3z is MUTED, meaning that you can't talk in there.
You can however type TRIGGERS & get music of BOTS.
Just wait until the file-server triggers gets advertised, and the bots advertise their content.
Then, type their F Serve triggers and give the bots commands..

#hiphopmp3 unable to join channel (need correct key)

What it says.. you need a password for the channel, someone needs to invite you, or they just wanted to get rid of your monkey ass!

99.9% of the time, messages like this is BULLSHIT.
Ignore ALL messages from people you don't know. Just like with e-mail, there's also spammers on mIRC, wether you like it or not.
DO NOT run these programs, they're usually virus or bad codes.

People with @ is operators, and people with + is voices. Voices cant do anything, but they can talk in the channel if the channel is moderated.

search for mirc...scroll to the latest version they have...then look for that version on the net..ie search at yahoo.com...
uninstall mirc the programme then run the crack / patch / fix...always provided with instructions on how to use...im running 6.03 full version atm

Go into:
OPTIONS -> DCC -> FOLDERS ->
Where it says "DCC GET FOLDERS", hit "Edit" underneath to change the folder.
By changing "Default" in the box to "*wav, *mid, *mp3", you can change both the "Download"-folder AND the "Sound"-folder.

Just go to something like yahoo.com n do a search for "mirc" +addons...will pull up pages like mircscripts.org and mircx.com
always many many script addons you can get...
...sometimes for a certain mirc platform...all with different plus sides ie addons...fun..war...server...protection...bots etc etc
try it...see whats available...all come with loading instructions so they simple to use...
..even scripts to higher the speed of ya downloads by setting priorities and changing packet size

I downloaded "G-Unit Rap City Freestyle" from #hiphop-central, and theres a problem with it. When I went to unzip it, it said that I didnt have the proper program to open the file. So I opened winzip and I unzipped it some how. After unzippin it into its new folder, it still said that something was missing and the file couldnt be opened. I then opened winamp, and played it. I have no clue what the fuck is wrong with it. You could deffinitly hear 50's voice, but you couldnt hear what he was saying. It got really high pitched, and then it would speed up and slow down...Its real fucked up. Im guessing that there is a problem with the file that was sent to be because on my WinAmp player it shows that its 1 track, but its 40 minutes long.
Did this ever happen to you?

You need Windows Media Player or another Media Player to play it.. Winamp will just fuck it up.

...have to either look for exactly the same release and package size
or
wait until (if) the channel reopens
this happens sometimes if a channel is being "cleaned" or if they have been subject to hackers / abuse...put it on lock down so noone can get in for now...if they setting up perhaps a new bot-net or even if the channel has been taken over (worst case)
so either hunt or wait ;)

More likely they got so big that the bots couldn't handle all the traffic.
Or somebody didn't like them getting "too big", and tried to take over.

..ive known a few people to get busted, primarily the major players who distribute to mp3 channels and ripping groups.
Said that dalnet which was the founder of the mp3 sharing scene really..most chans shut down since i left...alot got busted by the fbi :(

i know people who were busted by their isp for the amount of traffic...these people were reported to the fbi after their traffic & content was monitored.
Some are still on the scene but are not "seen" by many users.

So you want the album ripped a MONTH (!!) before the actual release ?? :-\
Now THAT would kill album-sales.. I'm more than happy with a week or two before the release.. so that you won't get tired of it before you BUY the actual album.
Group-names is no secret, they can find 50 group-names on Kazaa in 5 minutes..

Try changing servers..
Go into OPTIONS, find CONNECT, and change servers.. since you're in U.S. I would suggest Cali, N.Y. or something close.. some servers will disconnect you all the time.
And maybe Berkeley have a built in sensor for when people are somewhere they shouldn't be.. lol

* mIRC is totally free.
They might want you to register it, but you don't have to if you do not wish.
* It doesn't matter to what server you connect, it's still free.
You might want to connect to a server in e.g. Oslo, Paris, Aarhus, or Amsterdam.
That will prevent you from disconnecting from mIRC, which can happen if you connect to servers on the other side of the world.. trial and error..

When properly set up, mIRC will give you a list of the newest releases like this:

Set mIRC up to join these channels:
While still in OPTIONS, go to the left again, and find PERFORM under the IRC-option.
Check the box "On Connect, Perform these commands".
In the box you write in the channels you want to join when mIRC starts up, in my case I've written these in:
/join #WestCoastConnection
/join #rapmp3z
/join #mixtapegodz
/join #gangstamp3z
/join #xmp3
/join #hiphopmp3
/join #musichq
/join #mp3dcc
/join #cablerapmp3
/join #RnbViBeZ
/join #mp3_rap_n_reggae
/join #outlawzmp3z
If you're more into Bay/LA shit, put these as well:
/join #baytight
and
/join #bay2la

Requested -> Waiting -> Queued (17) -> Receiving -> Complete (Completed packs will show up in a 3rd window)
If the new windows doesn't show, right-click in a channel, find "DCCASSIST" and choose "View packs" and "View Status".
This is how DCCASSIST looks when properly set up:

Means that the file is fucked, probably because of a resume.. try downloading it again.

How do you bring up that big list?
Join the 10 or more biggest hiphop-channels, and the list will get as big as the one in the picture.
Remember to wait 10-15 minutes for the packs to get advertised.
Bring up the "DA.Packs" window by right-clicking in a window, and choose "DCCAssist" and then "View packs".
To view the list alphabeticly, right-click in the Packs-window, and choose "Sorting" and "By Description".
Update the list by pressing F7, when you have been on mIRC for 10-20 minutes..
Packs will be added all the time.
DCCassist does everything as long as you double-click the album you want..

6.12 fixes some SERIOUS bugs, which will get you hacked sooner or later if you don't upgrade.
Right-clicking on a user, and hitting "Query" will bring up a new window to chat it.

This is Version 4, where I have added & simplified a lot, and improved the "ERRORS and FAQS", and also "TIPS and TRICKS" sections.
TIPS AND TRICKS is for the more advanced users, who knows the basics, and want to be more efficient, and find better solutions to downloading and searching.
Step 1: Downloading mIRC
Download mIRC HERE (http://www.mirc.com)
Step 2: The Installation
Install it, follow the instructions.
Like any other program..
Step 3: Setting up mIRC
Open up mIRC, and go into the OPTIONS on the left side, choose CONNECT, and go to IRC NETWORK on the right side.
Choose EFNET, and in the box below choose a server near your location.
(In my case, Aarhus or Oslo)
In the box NICK-NAME, type your prefered name, in my case LiL|Jome.
Choose a unique name, e.g. NOT 2Pac (It may be taken already)
To change nick later on, simply type:
/nick Mynick
in one of the channels.
While still in OPTIONS, go to the left again, and find OPTIONS under the CONNECT-option, click OPTIONS here, and find the "PERFORM"-button on the right side.
Check the box "On Connect, Perform these commands".
In the box you write in the channels you want to join when mIRC starts up, in my case I've written these in:

/join #rapmp3z
/join #outlawzmp3z

You can be in as many channels as you want.
To join your fav. channel on startup, use the command:
/join #mychannel
NOW HIT OK to save your changes.
Step 4: Starting up with mIRC
Now click the CONNECT-button, and you'll be taken to all the channels you have set it up to join.
You can be at dozens of channel at once, and just hit the channel-button to go back and forth from them.
Here you can just talk or download music.
Step 5: Downloading music
If you want to set your mIRC up to download music, do this:
In OPTIONS, go to DCC and see under ON SEND REQUEST.
If you have this set to IGNORE ALL, you will not be able to receive files.
Therefore you choose SHOW GET DIALOG, and then you will be asked when someone sends you a file. For your own safety, but if you have antivirus/firewall ready:
Then you can automatically receive files, choose instead AUTO-GET FILE. (Warning: Dangerous if you don't have anti-virus)
In a channel you can download music if it's set up to do so.
#Westcoastconnection doesn't usually have music to download, unless you ask in the channel, and then maybe someone will send it to you.
Bigger channels like #Rapmp3z or #Outlawzmp3z have been set up to serve files, and here you can dowload music from either a F SERVE or a BOT.
NOTE: Asking TOO much, or personal messaging repeated times asking for shit can get you banned from the channel.
Ask TOO much, and you will be kicked or banned, normal manners apply.
Ask for a track/album in the channel once or twice, but not MSG everyone, and repeat yourself over and over.
F SERVES
(F Serves = when regular people/users set their computer up to serve files, kinda like WinMX/Kazaa, but it works more like MS-DOS)
To see if a channel contains a F SERVE, type the command
!List
in the channel.
The results will be shown as this:

5 Triggers in all, depending on what you want.
If you want Music-videos, type this trigger in the channel:
!Musicvidz
Now you will be taken to a new window, with all my music-videos.
To see what videos or mp3z I have to offer, type the command
DIR in this new window.
To get a file, type the command: GET <Filename>
In example:
GET Cassidy-freestyle-fua.mp3
Now you will either be sent the mp3, or you will be in the queue to download it. You will be in the queue as long as you are in the channel.
To get into a folder, let's say I got 2 folders with music-vidz, one called NEW VIDZ and another called OLD VIDZ.
To get into NEW VIDZ, type the command:
CD NEW VIDZ
To see the content of the folder: DIR
to get out of the folder again, type:
cd..
Remember that if you get an error, you might be trying to get a whole folder.
Example: VA-Kanye_West-Im_Good-2003-WHOA
(This is a FOLDER and not a file, and you must use the CD command, and not the GET command.)
Commands on the F Serve:
cd, ls, dir, read, get, stats, who, sends, queues, clr_queues, terms, cd..
NOTE: !List can get you banned in some channels, see topic or what other people do.
BOTS
(Bots = Short for robots, it's a virtual "person" in the channel, set up to receive commands and send you stuff, normally at a very fast line)
Bots are easier to DownLoad from, as there's just a few commands.
A bot will advertise it's content in the channel, and a ad. might look like this:
<RMZ-DCC83> #1 213x [ 95M] VA-Kanye_West-Im_Good-2003-WHOA
If you want this Kanye advance, you QUERY the actual bot.
Right-click the bot, and hit "Query", and give this command to the bot to get this file:
XDCC SEND #1
This will send you pack number 1, which Kanye is here.
You can tell by the ad that this advance is 95 MB big, and that 213 people have downloaded it.
You can also type this command in the channel to get the album:
/msg RMZ-DCC83 xdcc send #1
If you want to know what a BOT has to offer, QUERY the bot this:
XDCC LIST
Now you can see in the channel what the bot has to offer.
So the most important commands on bots, is
XDCC LIST and XDCC SEND #1 (or 2,3,4,5 etc.)
And remember to QUERY the bots, not type them in the channel.
There's a LOT of bots in channels like
#Rapmp3z
#outlawzmp3z
#xmp3
#mixtapegodz
etc.
Just wait for the bots to advertise their content in the channel..
In some channels, you can type XDCC LIST in the channel to see what all the bots have to offer, but this will get you banned 80% of the time.
For easier downloading off bots, try "DCCAssist", a plugin for mIRC.

Want to Download off bots in a very much easier way ??
DCCAssist (http://www.dccassist.com/) @ DCCAssist.com (http://www.dccassist.com/) is the solution for easy downloading.
This is a plugin for mIRC which will automate the "xdcc send #x" process, and list all the albums in a neat list.
Download DCCAssist, and install it. (Read the "Readme" file proper, and restart mIRC when installed)
Now you will get up 2 extra windows. (If you don't get them, right-click in a channel and choose "DCCAssist" and click "View Packs")
Window #1: DA.Packs
Will show you all the albums/singles etc. advertised on bots in a list. Sort them alphabeticly for easy DL. (Do that by right-clicking the Packs-window, and choose "Sorting" and then "By Description")
Double-click a album, and it will start downloading.
Update the list by pressing F7, when you have been on mIRC for 15-20 minutes.. the list should now be complete.
Window #2: DA.Status
Will show the status of your requested download. Like this:
Requested -> Waiting -> Queued (17) -> Receiving (w. current speed) -> Complete (Completed packs will show up in the 3rd window as well)
The status can also be "Failed" or "Offline" or "Connection lost".
Window #3: DA.Log
A log over all the albums you have downloaded

To get a list of albums this big, you will need to be on 5 to 12+ channels, and wait approx. 20 minutes so that ALL the BOTS can advertise their packs.

Searching for channels
If you want to join channels with e.g. porn or PS2, you can write this command in the channel:
/list xxx
or
/list trance
or
/list ps2
or
/list playstation
Now a window will pop up, with the results. Pretty efficient.
From here you can also see the topic, and how many users the channels have.
Use the search-words you want, hiphop, rap, mp3, ps2, vcd, etc...
ERRORS AND FAQ
ERROR:
Your mIRC crashes all the time.
Install mIRC 6.12, and make sure to always have the latest version.
A bug in mIRC 6.x - 6.11 can cause other people to crash your mIRC.
ERROR:
-DAYmp3-03- *** You have a DCC pending, Set your client to receive the transfer. (30 seconds remaining until timeout)
Do this to get the file:
Go into
OPTIONS --> DCC --> FOLDERS --> Where it says "DCC Ignore", change it from "IGNORE ALL" to "DISABLED"
Remember to restart mIRC, after you have done this, or it probably won't work.
ERROR:
#musichq Cannot send to channel.
This means that the channel is muted/moterated, and only operators & voices can talk in here.
You will not be able to talk in the biggest channels usually..
#rapmp3z is MUTED, meaning that you can't talk in there.
You can however type TRIGGERS & get music of BOTS.
Just wait until the file-server triggers gets advertised, and the bots advertise their content.
Then, type their F Serve triggers and give the bots commands..
The reason why it's muted, is because big channels have 500-2000 people, and if everybody wrote sumthin, it would be chaos.. and to avoid spammers..
ERROR:
#hiphopmp3 unable to join channel (need correct key)
or
#hiphopmp3 unable to join channel (invite only)
or
#hiphopmp3 unable to join channel (you are banned)
What it says basically.. you need a password for the channel, someone needs to invite you, or they just wanted to get rid of your monkey ass!

A: Not much to do, than try downloading the file again.
This can happen when you have a mismatch on resume download.
Alternatively, the file is only partly downloaded, or the download isn't finished.

Hey Im a newbie like a motherfucker and Ive fallowed the directions very closely and after days of fucking with it I got it to finally work .... or so I thought .It says accepting file then it always says connection failed in the box that shows your progress. Could be that the bot or yourself have a firewall, or other connection issues.

I came to the conclusion it was the bot. I was attempting to get that dpg last of the pound, and it would'nt work but then I tried to get that new knocturnal and it came in real quik. I've been struggling trying to get that d- 12 and a few others but my connection speed keeps lagging and it cuts me off!! what can I do about this because most of the time this is the problem I have!! I just started using mirc today and Im really only comfortable using bots. do you have any bot exclusive channels where I could find some unreleased dre or some rare snoop or dj quik. on #bay2LA there are a bunch of tight ass songs and albums but I try to query the bot to recieve the file and nothing happens. Am I right when I assume I'm trying to get a file from a server thats thats not a bot?

You have another thing called "F serve" or File server.. that's not a bot.
Read the guide for info on how to download from them..
Rare shit: Either look in F serves, or ask in a channel and ask for specific stuff..
E.g. don't ask: "Hey anybody got some rare Deathrow or DJ Quik"
That usually won't get you answers, but ask for a specific track, and people might have it and send..

To join multiple servers on startup:
Go into DCCAssist OPTIONS: Hit "Networks", and under "All" you select the networks you want to join on startup, and hit the ">" sign to add them to the right window.
In the screenshot you will see 6 different networks added to the "use at startup" at the right side of the screen.
Check "Use at startup", then APPLY and OK.

Under "All servers", type this in the box: /server -m
Enable/check "Enable perform on connect"

ok whenever i download a full (zipped) album from IRC, regardless of the network/channel i D/L off, when i extract the album using winrar, the mp3's are fine in quality but the bitrates are all fucked up they go from like 400 to 192 to 160 and change every second
the reason this is annoyin is cuz sumtimes when u burn them onto CD u hear the most irratating pops due to this

It's called "Variable bitrate" or "VBR"
The rippers used to use 192/kbs quality, but they started using "VBR" now..
It gives better quality on less space, but some times better quality on more space.

If you don't variable bitrate, you will have to convert it to "CBR" - constant bitrate yourself with a mp3 decoder.

Try going step for step.. and be patient.
If 1 server doesn't work, try another one, there's 20-50 EFNet servers to choose from.

They (got) shut down, like all mp3 nfo sites.. Grokmusiq took over for mp3hq, but also got forced to shut down.
Apparently, "the scene" ::) doesn't like their nfo's being spread around, if it was up to them only a select few would get the releases.

Yeah, after 454324 spam messages I decided to find the perfect solution..
1. Download "Anti Spam" from here:

Happens from time to time, due to unstable servers/too much traffic/script kiddies.

EFNet is slowly getting worse, locked channels means that they have nothing to offer any more.

I am trying to install dccassist to my mIRC, but cant figure out what I'm doing wrong. I d/l it from dccassist.com and i the readme file but whe it asks this:
Extract dccAssist.mrc from the zip file either into your mIRC directory, or create a
subfolder for it, then launch mIRC and type.
/load -rs1 dccAssist.mrc
If you installed into a subfolder, include that path in the above command.

If you have put the Dccassist file into your mirc-folder, you can type:
/load -rs1 dccAssist.mrc
in any channel, and DCCAssist will load.. answer "yes" to the question you get..

According to that message error, you only wrote "-rs1 dccAssist.mrc"
Don't forget the /load part.
/load -rs1 dccAssist.mrc (Hit enter)

You use WINRAR (http://www.rarlab.com/) or Winzip to unzip the files into 1 directory.
20 times easier than downloading 1 and 1 file.. 8)

Most likely, the bot can not connect to you..
There may be many reasons for this, but the best thing is to try another bot.. it doesn't happen often, unless you got 56K.

Yeah, unzip the files into a new folder with WinRAR, you'll find WinRAR all over the net for download..

I've been having a problem with downloading from a few bots. I used the /ctcp thingy to get a directory of all the albums the bot has. There was a couple that I could download, and the rest I couldn't. I tried getting the new Luda, but the bot kept telling me that it doesn't except wildcards with this thingy (*.*) after. It was typed out just like text and everything without an extention. But later I tried downloading a Richie Rich and Spice 1 album, only it was follow with the .rar extention and worked. I am so insanley confused. This is the first time I have used mirc and I am really surprised I have gotten this far.

Im having some problems with packetnews. I was using an older version of MIRC before, and when i used packetnews, I could double click on the packet and MIRC would automatically connect to that channel.
Now after installing MIRC v6.16, when i double click on a packet on the packetnews webpage, it goes to an error page "the page cannot be displayed", and MIRC doesnt connect to the channel. I've updated my web browser, no change. Any ideas? Thanks in advance

Just a note to the original poster, I'm the author of dccAssist... on your guide you setup a profile called 'Jome' with various networks to connect to, though you're missing that you can add channels for each network to the profile aswell, thus you don't need to use miRC's perform on connect.

^^ Try different servers on EFnet, there's 30-50 to choose from.
Most likely your ISP is blacklisted for use on one of the servers because you're not from Sweden, Italy, or wherever the server is located.
Some servers only allow people from their own country or continent to connect..

what is it with this annoying message that always tells me i have to "set my client"

it's got nothin to do with ignoring files as it is described in the manual, I even tried totally disabling the ignore function but it doesn't help in any way, it seems to randomly not work sometimes (quite often actually which is why it's so damn annoying), any idea ?
