its a broad thing.. just wondered if any of you guys have noticed this..

first noticed it obvously with infinite who claimed to be an english major or training to be a teacher or something.. but many more of you do too.

i cant be the only one to have noticed this.. i think trauma can spell tho.. lol

I know I rely on a spell checker WAY too much. I know if I spell something wrong, it'll change it for me.  :-\

I do 95% of my writing on a computer. I'd say I do 85% of that in Word...

What are some examples of the fundamental mistakes you see? Point em out and perhpas we can improve  ;)

lol

like that guy who put "presents" instead of "presence"  in g-spot..

its mainly things like that

m dogg put "'responds" instead of "responce" and "innocents" instead of "innocence" in a thread a few days ago..

most often things are written down as they are said, rather than as they are spelled.

something to do with hooked on phonics? (we dont have that either..)

thing is.. find this stuff rubbing off on me, so i think its a bad influence. lol

also.. many people mix "there" and "their" up.

a similar thing is that germans often call "threads" "threats" until they're corrected..

another thing about americans they can't understand simple rhyming slang, i can understand stuff certain things where you have to know the story behind the word (eg april means arse, learnt that friday nite). but if i were to say i going for a johnny cash or whats the bird line they wouldn't understand, but then again who gives an aylesbury duck!

johnny cash = slash (piss i dunno if u american use that as its probably english slang ne way) bird line = time (ppl also use bird as in doing time in prison) and aylesbury duck = fuck (aylesbury is famous for its duck, hence the phrase)

I've noticed alot of spelling mistakes from peeps here over the years. I'm sure I've had my share of them too. My mother was an english teacher, so I really don't have much of an excuse if I do.
Title: Re:something i've noticed about ya'll americans

I always thought most of that is slang.

I cant imagine someone who graduates can think there is the same as their or something.
It's just that americans (especially guys who are affiliated with rap) write stuff often different in order to write cool and shit. for instance duznt instead of doesn't and so on, the freaky thing about english is that you can spell words entirely differently and you still know what's up when you read it. night - nite etc...

I know exactly what you're saying 'seer.  I've noticed my own mistakes in spelling and it is mainly because I type faster than I think sometimes or I go on to another point without proper punctuation.  You however pointed out mistakes in tense and subject verb agreement.  Great Dane said presents in place of presence I noticed it too. the They're/Their/There thing I've noticed a lot too.  also to where a too should have been.  I try to use the correct tense in my posts but as I said before most of my speling mistakes are because I type faster than I think sometimes.  It's not an american thing it is an ignorant thing.  Much like Don Rizzle saying some simple british Lock Stock bullshit saying Americans don't understand....of course we don't it's fuckin drunk brit speek!  It is a problem with laziness and tense agreement for a lot of us not a spelling thing.

Man, I won't even get into it, lol but basically the school system is failing everybody in America.  Nobody wants to be there, the teachers don't like it, the kids run free and do whatever they want, the parents don't do anything at home, on and on and on.

yeah i kinda figured that.. because I've really wondered how the hell college educated people here can't spell!

i've wondered this for a long long time.

thing is, its often the same mistakes, and the same words.. which is why i've hooked on phonics thing.. it teaches you to spell by listening right? but if two words sound the same.. it kinda teaches you wrong?

Well, I thought I'd get into it a little more.

What made me start noticing how fucked up the schools are, is when a girl I know became a teacher.  She teaches 1st grade... that's 6 year olds.  She can't hug them, it's against school policies.

The schools have became so terrorized over things being done the wrong way, and lawsuits, and loopholes and shit, that they have no balls anymore.  A teacher can't hug a child.  That has nothing to do with learning; but it's just symbolic of how things have changed for the worse.

As far as learning goes, teachers can't fail kids that fuck up.  In the old days, you were afraid of your teacher, because he would fail you, suspend you, etc. Now the teachers (or most) have absolutely no control over their classrooms so nobody does any work.  They just skate by.

I owe nearly everything I am to the work my teachers and my father did when I was a kid.  I had teachers, from the time I was in Kindergarten till at least 5th grade, and then again subject specific teachers in jr. high and High school that went out of their way to make learning fun and exciting.  My dad helped me out too, not so much taking tests and studying and things, but from the time I was born, he talked to me, taught me things, took me places, showed me how to do things, answered my questions.  Parents don't always do that, so kids don't always learn.

I cant say I've actually noticed this really.  I've noticed the odd spelling mistake here and there but I always presume its because people type fast, typo's, different languages, slang, and other shit.  Like me, if I make an error when I am typing on this board I will most likely leave it as it is rather than actually spending time clicking, deleting, typing and scrolling, dunno if ya'll do the same.

DISGUSTING.  That, and yall can call me whatever the hell you want, but I hope it makes people understand me a little more... that is one of the most horrible things I've ever heard of.  The girl I knew showed me how, if a 6 year old kid comes running up to her with her arms out, she has to turn to her side and pat the girl on the back or something, so she's not touching her or hugging her or anything.  Sickening, I think.

If the world wasn't so rough and tough and evil and dark sometimes, we'd all be running around hugging each other.  Children don't know about the bad in the world, and naturally, from nature, from god, from birth, from whatever, they instinctively know how to love and hug and things like that... and in our schools, we reject that, cast away their nature to love, and turn 5 year olds and 6 year olds into minature versions of our own cold, calloused selves.  That's sickening to me.

I just graduated, class of 2003 and I noticed my class was the last class that people were being held back my brother got held back once in first grade because his skills were not up to par.  We did everything at home but he has a learning disorder of some sort so it wasn't neglect from the family at all, and dammit he should have been held back once more in my opinion because the school didn't give him the proper help he needed; he just now got into a more intimae class situation....5 years later... that shit is fucked up I'm glad I got all I could from school btu as trauma said it has gottento it's lowest point now.

Trauma, my mom still hugs her students, and there aren't any rules that I am aware of in our city (state) that says she can't. She's a 5th grade teacher now, and has taught K thru 5 over the years. We are a small city (30,000) compared to a place like Chicago or NY, so maybe it's regional?

in secondary school i had a teacher i hugged a few times even kissed her, there was nothing sexual about it it was just the relationship we had, she was my form tutor for like 6 years, i went thru some hard times in that period its good to know there is some1 you respect who will always make time for you.

I hate how 95 percent of the people around here spell "You're" as "Your", for example: Your a nice girl, i like you. DOn't people know it's wrong? Also, some pop culture promotes spelling mistakes, such as Ludacris. The actual word is spelled Ludicous. Also, i have noticed that i have sometimes written "Dogg" instead of "dog" by accident in English papers, because i write "Dogg" so much in this damn thread

I often write "you was" instead of "you were" cause I talk like that (and write at wcc etc like that too) in school, which is considered a damn grammer fault.

Anyway, i wasn't trying to diss you with my original post, your mistake was just an example of how rap fucks with people's spelling. and no, i don't have scapegoats for all of my fuck-ups, but in this case i think i'm right. i just hate cocky and arrogant people, i really do

I spell a lot of words on here wrong, and use wrong grammar, and use words like there or than in the wrong circumstance.  mostly I just do it cause I'm lazy, and I am only about gettin my point out there.  I was always a good speller up to and thru highschool, but I defanitely am not as good now.  when I would write a paper for college I could always get the spelling right, and even nowadays I still know how to spell good, but I guess its just not really impoortant to me anymore.
