Kinda funny that he also says the biggest band out of Bako is Korn and that they are original.  He must know too much about them because if he did he would realize thet their biggest influence, and a band that was doing the same type of music 10 years before them was from the Bay..Faith no More.  read about it.  They'l  say the same thing. 8)

I think Bay area gots it over Baka. Hell, I'm a fan of the Baka Boyz, and shit, but the Bay has it on lock. That's like me trying to say I.E. is over L.A. I have hometown love, we have Sly Boogie, Skee-Lo (his originally from Moreno Valley) and Lighter Shade of Brown, but L.A. just has too many people, we can't all be from the best places. We still got our peoples though, so I ain't tripping. I.E. pride still muthaphukkaz.

good job  you found one good thing that the bay has

finally someone got one good thing.......metallica .....kirk hammett/ cliff burton. both from san francisco. but metallica as a whole is a 50/50  so cal no cal. James , Lars, Dave, and Ron (the og bassist) all met up in LA. they got kirk right after they kicked dave out for being an angry drunk. Also metallica's sound was really just a misfits meets NWBHM (new wave of british heavy metal)
so you gotta credit european bands like diamond head , motorhead, and judas preist with that sound.

but yeah kirk hammett is one good thing out of san francisco good job

and like i said i can name 5 so cal trends to that one.....

1. Eddie Van Halen-Pasadena
2. Randy Rhoads-Santa Monica
3. Slash-L.A.
4. Flea-L.A.
5. Dave Navarro-L.A.

and korn started Nu Metal........which is something totally different than what faith no more does/did. Faith No more was a light metal band in the begining, then became a funk metal band.

the difference in sound is black and white......faith no more rapped/sang hence "epic".....john davis just fucking screams and rumbles his voice....hence "twist"

the guitars are 2 different things as well , faith no more's guitars was traditional  heavy metal 6 sting standard tuned power chorded metal scale. where as korn uses 7 string guitars with obtuse tunnings and buzzes , percussion bass and all sorts of  sound effects.  about the ONLY similarity is the drums.  faith no more and korn are 2 different bands .......you turn on modern radio today...with all these nu metal bands like distrubed and shit and it's just carbon copy korn......not faith no more

and for the record korn is more influenced by the chilli peppers than anyone......who was doing what faith no more was doing way before  :P

aright now, someone please show me another trend , that matters, that the bay started.

so far it's the bay :1
So Cal: 6

lol arn't all white people.....

yah dude was born in Stoke-on-Trent, England and flea was born in austrailia and Eddie van halen was born in the neverlands. All 3 moved to the states and learned guitar in LA as kids so  i figure, hey if these bay area dudes can transplant chicago culture over to the bay i can import some guitarists, lol

im sorry, i was on the east coast this past week in nyc, so wasnt able to check up on this forum, or else i would have posted up about this topic.. its locked now.. but i felt like adding a little.. i think its important..

if you guys know your history of music, you will know that the funk sound was originated in the bay area.. namely SLY & THE FAMILY STONE. this group has done influenced and idolized by everyone from miles davis to geroge clinton to temptations to dr dre to stevie wonder to herbie hancock to prince to michael jackson. none of them would be here without sly and the family stone. michael jackson idolized them so much that he purchased their publishing rights. all of the artists i mentioned show strong traces of sly's bay area funk sound in their music.

The first funk hip hop records have come from the Bay Area. DJ Slice and Kool Rock J sampled Knee Deep in their classic song "slice it up" in 1986. hammer fused the pfunk sound into his song "they put me in the mix" in 1987. Digital underground got the funk in full effect with "underwater rimes". Dave Kaos from the bay area, also did cuttin and scratchin on some of george clinton's albums.  Oakland was the city where George Clintons Parliament/Funkdaelic mothership first landed in 1976. George clinton has very strong ties to the bay area, and they are so strong that he recorded part of his live album p funk earth tour in the oakland coliseum. On digital undergrounds Sons of the P(arliament) album.. they were considered very ahead of their time cos of their use of the moog synthesizer...  which has influenced artsits like snoop dogg and ice cube to start utlizing that device..

Dr dre credits his chronic and doggystyle sound heavily to the pfunk sound esp george clinton.. but man.. where did geroge clinton get this sound ?? he was a student of the bay area product "sly and the family stone"
sly actually came in during the 60's..  and yeah his influence was that strong on these artists.. i have read various interviews in which geroge clinton has firmly and boldly stated that SLY was the greatest funk band of all time. I have also read interviews in which the Jackson Five have claimed that SLY was their biggest influence.

for the way in which sly influenced the temptations. you can just listen to songs like "cloud 9", "run away child, running wild", "psychadelic shack" , and "ball of confusion" which reflect the psychadelic sounds and genre that sly created. sly also influenced their style and their appearance, which is related to the influence that sly had on the creator of Motown,  Berry Gordy.. berry was known to run motown in a way in which he controlled everything, standardized songwriting, using the same band to create a standard sound, and controlling the apperance of their artsits. berry tried to model the apperance of some of his artists after Sly.

sly also influenced herbie hancock, on his headhunters album.. released in the early 70's.. this quote comes straight from herbie hancocks official homepage biography:

"In 1973, Headhunters, the second LP in his new deal with Columbia Records, became jazz's first platinum album. With its Sly Stone-influenced hit single "Chameleon," this album (and its follow-up Thrust) signaled, once and for all, that Herbie Hancock would not be pigeonholed or categorized"..

herbie even has a song on the headhunters album called "SLY", which is an obvious tribute to the group.

sly has also influenced jimi hendrix, on his album "band of gypsys" in which he has a cover of sly's "sing a simple song" at the begining of "We Gotta Live Together".

as im speaking, im reading a dr dre interview in the book "it aint about a salary" in which he credits SLY as one of his major influences.

by the way, since we're on the topic of funk... i was in NYC this past week and was able to catch a sold out show of geroge clinton and the pfunk all stars at the Bb kings blue bars and grill (hands down the best venue ive ever been to, and ive been to like over 20 shows in various venues)... Shock G made a guest apperance with the funny nose/glasses get up. and geroge had his granddaughter "sativa" rap a few verses on stage.. probably the best concert ive been to besides up in smoke.. the sound that they have is just incredible.. it was so funny seeing all the old ass folks that grew up on george all funkin and singing the lyrics.. seeing a 60+ white woman just waving her hands singing "to the window to the walls, to the sweat drop down my balls..." was just great..  highlight of the performance was probably "flashlight"... im so glad i went.. i'll have pictures up in a few days..

funk didn't start with sly and the family stone...... ::)

James Brown ( a Georgia boy) in 64' started the essense of funk! that isn't even debateable....Funk is a sound from the SOUTH, it's was a form a soul, mixed with southern jazz, and big band.

the funk guitar as we know it was popularized and reformed by Jimi Hendrix. Lil dude from Seattle

the funk bass that you love in your g-funk can be credited to John Entwistle of the who , just a lil band from england

c'mon guys i know there 's something out there besides Kirk Hammett that came out of  the bay, this thread is almost becoming pointless now

BTW, thanks for proving me right guys ,lol

aint no one lyin BLOOD!!

First off Bruce Lee was BORN in San Francisco and raised in Hong Kong then when he wanted to teach Kung-Fu(my bad the other guy corrected me cuz I said karate)when he came to the states it wasnt aloud by the Chinese people so he fought(literally)to open up and teach the art here in the states, then later taught his own form of gung-fu,jeet-kune-do but when he first started teaching his first school was in Oakland

first off.........i don't know how you can dismiss the artists from LA

Van Halen- if it wasn't for them and david lee roth the 80's would'n't of looked like  the 80's  all that shit came from them and the sunset strip sound. also eddie invented so many guitar styles that were copied by everyone......shit listen to rap and you'll still hear his influence

Randy Rhoads- he after eddie van halen was the most influencial guitarist of the 80's , he incorperated the classical guitar sound into the electric guitar, and made the guitar virtuoso even bigger, every one jocked his shit and still do

Slash-GNR took rock back to the realness......not nirvana but GNR......slash was responsible for most of the music.

Flea-if  flea never came out with his bass style .....there wouldn't be  ALOT of bands and rap artists around. also the chilli peppers were one of the first artists to be considered rap/funk rock

Dave Navarro- all i got to say is listen to the first two jane's addiction albums.....the early and mid 90's wouldn't sound the way it did without this band and it's guitarist

Green Day RUINED punk rock.......gee thanks , this is like being proud to have MC Hammer and NElly .lol

Santana is from MEXICO home boy, dude started playing violin at first then learned guitar while in mexico still.......that's like saying the rolling stones are an american band becuase they live in america now...

i'll give you barry bonds.....btw i love the fact that he sucked all the way up until he started roiding up....lol The best RUnning Back Ever was Jim Brown and Walter Payton.....btw

Hippies DID NOT start in the bay....like i said the counter culture started in Orange County and San Diego

c'mon slang and weed.......today most of the slang people talk is from the  south....ain't no one running around saying "ham" and Feddy oka" and shit, and the BEST weed is from Vancover ....

the only vailid one i see so far is the computer thing

chalk up #2 to your list

the golden gate bridge is not a trend

alcatraz....how is that a trend , no one tried making alcatraz 2

Skywalker Ranch? yeah they make ALL the movies there huh?.....BULLSHIT most of his staff is hired visual hands from LA and England

the first moving picture-England

radio wasn't invented in the bay

Oakland isn't the crime capitol anymore , it's detroit , and even if it was that's not a trend

i'll give you crack---wow that's something to be proud of

the independent hip hop game didn't start in the bay......in the begining of hip hop all lables were independent .....i don't know how dumb you got to be to ignore this fact..., and the east coast still operates a grip of independent lables

REAL pimping came from chicago and Cinccinati.......quit ignoring this fact.....and the most famous pimp is not fillmore slim......

if you ask me you got an inferiority complex.........LA VS the BAY.....it's LA all day

IF a bunch of geeks in UCLA didn't fart around with some modems the internet as we know it wouldn't exist

the .mp3 file was around and being downloaded before napster.... seattle mu fucker

Aviation industry....oh shit

 the early oil industry?......oh shit

many famous strikes took place in So Cal that effects the modern day workers rights

y'all are known for being by a bay......but funny how y'all don't use it seeing as LA's got and will have a bigger loading dock in the world. where millions of dollars in cargo is made every second.

the California ORange....

Wine vinyards

Agriculutre and irragation

shit dude the bay might have Kirk Hammett, Crack Cocain, and the ever fading cilicon vally and a bunch of bullshit that is from ELSE WHERE.......but when it comes down to it........the whole southern california area has done more for the world  than all of no. cal will ever hope to. cuz when it comes down to it, most of the shit that blows down here is OG ORIGINAL......and most things ( i don't want to even say blow up cuz nothing really blows up there) that fizzle up there are Either Barrowed from somewhere else and you run around taking credit for it or is only popular there and you thing you're a bunch of big shots for it.

BTW stop trying to talk like a hard core crip , quit jockin so cal.

Jake....U have issues cuzzin....I remember bac in tha days we went thru the same bullshit when U claimed there are at least 20 rap groups that made more impact in hip hop than bone thugs.....lolol.....even if U don't believe in it, U still like 2 argue and get energy from it because yur missin that energy in tha real world....I'm gonna stop rite here and be a man and drop it, I ain't gone be goin bac n forth wit U on some stupid ass shit....The bay sets trends and we have impacted tha world in a tremendous manner.....deny it all U want....dats U....but if we were to ask outsiders who won this lil 'debate', who do u think it would be? ofcourse u gone think it's U cuzz U believe U actually turned tha table around on me wit all this bullshit, U have a reason and an answer 2 everything....I could easily argue against yur lil Dave Navarros and yur UCLAs....but wats tha point? I don't care about this that much.....if I made another human being's day better by droppin this and lettin him "win", then all good.....we can lock this thread up now......

PS: i got 100 sayin u wouldn't call me fake 2 my face.....and if u do, i got my life sayin you'll get yo mask cracked.....never once did i say im a crip.....

your a fool who can't prove a point, that's why you're trying to belittle me personally. If the bay has impacted the world so much how come you can only come up with 3 things! god damn i named more in a counter to kirk hammett! all the shit you named is PROVEN to be started somewhere else. THAT"S THE WHOLE POINT OF THIS TOPIC! THAT"S HOW IT GOT STARTED IN THE FIRST PLACE. WITH THE FASHION. all you fools up in the bay gather your fashion from either LA, Seattle, Chicago, or New York. That ain't me hating, that's me being REAL.

and if i ever did see you in person i would tell you anything that came to my mother fuckin' mind. i seriously have no fear of any living person...i'm not afraid of getting my assed kicked or kicking someones ass for that matter.

so save your cheap talk for your tilted lil streets i gay francisco

LOL, this may be one of the stupidest arguments ever on this forum.  This forum HATES the bay area.  They JOCK LA.  If LA had nuts, 90% of this forum would say that would be their dream place to live.  The bay gets absolutely no luv on this forum.  Hardly anybody ever talks about bay music.  I've read posts that say E-40 is the worst rapper ever. hahaha.  I seen so many posts of foreigners talkin bout how LA is some kinda like dream world.  Shit man I been to LA plenty of times, ain't nuthin special, there is way cooler places to live imo.  Its expensive as fuck to live anywhere nice there, everything you want to do costs hella money, traffic is a son of a bitch, besides the Lakers, their sports teams suck fuckin balls.  shit they can't even keep a football team there.  You even got Jake, who don't even live in LA, arguing like a mutha fucker for LA.  hahahha its too funny.

BTW, Northern Cali has the best weed, pleezbeleevit!  Humboldt, Mendocino, and Trinity Counties aka The Emerald Triangle aka ET.

I'm  a dogg pound gangsta from LBC/
Remotely controlled by the bomb ET
--Lil' C-Style - Who Got sum gangsta shit

You wanna hit this bobby, don't come around me/
I need that shit from Humboldt county
--Mac Dre - I need an eigth

99% of you ain't knowin SHIT bout the Northern Cali Weed.  And BTW  None of those counties are part of the bay area.  Mendo county is the closest and it is a good 4 hours north of the bay.  Humboldt is close to 6 hours north.

i ain't saying los angeles is the one and only place to be, hell there are a lot of shit holes in LA. but that's expected from a city that's been around forever and a day and has the 2nd largest population in the United States....if we were arguing about the best places to live in the US i'd argue for Las Vegas, Hawaii, and this one city (forgot it's name between LA and Sand Diego.

and again the best weed is from Vancover.

you don't know shit about weed dude.  most the weed that comes through cali, is grown in cali.  hardly any of it is from canada or another country.  Most of the weed grown in canada is indoors.  You can grow indoor weed anywhere in the fuckin world!  it doesn't matter, its indoor weed.  The great thing about Northern cali's weed is that it is outdoor grown.  You have to have the right climate for great outdoor weed.  why the fuck do you think northern cali is so famous for its weed?  but then again, only the true weed heads know and agree with what I'm talkin about, and like I said 99% of this forum don't know shit about northern cali's chronic.  I bet you jake, that unless you have gone to canada and smoked there, that you haven't even smoked canadian bud.  Just cause someone tells you its from canada don't mean that it really is.  I been in the weed game for a long ass time, and I know exactly what it is like.  Weed can change hands eazily from 10 to 15, maybe even 20 people before you get your lil eigth dogg.  and through all those exchanges peeps are sayin a name of the weed or where its from  to hype up the weed.  Shit I laugh at all the fuckin names of weed people make up.  I could give a fuck about a name, I smoke to get blazed, not cuz I like the name of the wweed.  and I done smoked and gone through a shitload of weed in my lifetime, probably more than anyone else on this forum, and I'll tell ya the best weed I have smoked is from Northern cali the emerald triangle.

It's funny how this isn't even about L.A v.s THA BAY, but this wannabe L.A native is tha only one defending his 'turf'.....no one fucin cares.....and ask anyone in here about tha shit I listed.....u fucin lost white boy, wat proof are U talkin about? I met Santana, ask him where he represents, personal computers were made in tha bay, no pimp is bigger than fillmoe slim in tha pimp game, tha pimp game in tha bay is tha biggest, its a fact, shut tha fuc up wit yur bullshit, fuc counter culture, that always existed, hippies were born in tha bay, black panthers were born in tha bay, barry bonds? yes, still from tha bay, funny or not, crack? yes, still tha bay, Radio? 1st broadcasted in San Jose, it's a muthafucin fact, best weed? still tha bay, learn tha difference between outdoor growing than indoors, how bout our DIVERSITY? South SF High School was named tha most diverse high school in 2002, San Mateo County where I live which is tha Backyard of SF was named tha most diverse place in tha whole nation, fact, don't even start on crime, shut up wit that bullshit, come 2 frisco and scream gay, because of tha fact that people think it's "gay" area, we smash even harder on cats who even mention tha word gay, ask obie trice, dood got punk by fillmoe cats for puttin gay and frisco in tha same sentence, true story, I guess it didn't make mtv news eh?.....THA BAY bitch, shittin all over U.....

by tha way, our cannibus clubs which I been goin to for tha past 3 years have tha most weed selection in tha world, another fact.....hundreds of different types of weed, shit U wouldn't even think existed for different occasions.....it's lovely.....

Dave Navarro huh? ahahahahaha.....now there's GAY! Tom Morrelo bitch, there's a fucin guitarist!
