Title: Mack 10 - Based on a True Story
Post by: That_Cracka_J on June 13, 2002, 06:48:41 AM
Mack 10 – Based on a True Story

1. Mack Manson…intro
2. Chicken hawk II…Good Mack 10 flow to a unique beat.  Ice Cube is a nice addition to the chorus.  3.5/5
3. Mack 10, Mack 10…Decent interpolation of Roxanne, Roxanne.  Track features Allfrumtha I and The Comrades.  3/5
4. Bangin’ gears…interlude
5. Backyard boogie…Nice head noddin’ beat.  Mack flows well over the track.  4/5
6. Can’t stop…Tight production.  E-40 appears to put down some tight lyrics.  Mack’s gotta hella tight flow.  4/5
7. Tonight’s the night…Production has a mix of laidback and gangsta.  Good beat and flow.  4/5
8. Aqua boogie…interlude
9. The guppies…Ice Cube appears on the track and puts down a couple of tight verses.  However, the beat gets repetitive.  3/5
10.   Inglewood swangin’…Sample from “Hollywood swinging”.  Cool, laidback production accompanies Mack’s smooth flow.  4/5
11.   Dopeman…A remake of N.W.A.’s “Dopeman”, with updated lyrics.  Beat sounds pretty much the same, with a touch of ‘97’s production.  3.5/5
12.   What you need (Dopeman ’97)…Smooth, laidback production.  Mack raps about his hustle and does a nice job on the mic.  Good hook.  4/5
13.   Only in California…Simple, but bangin’ production.  Ice Cube and Snoop Dogg appear on the track.  Everybody puts down a tight flow.  Nice hook.  4.5/5
14.   Gangster poem…interlude
15.   W/S foe life…Average production.  Decent flow, but boring chorus.  3/5
16.   Based on a true story…Laidback gangsta production.  Hella tight lyrics.  Nice hook.  5/5

OVERALL…8/10

A solid second effort from Mack 10.  A few bangin’ songs are scattered throughout the LP, but there are also many songs worth skipping.  Mack 10 has a tight flow and delivery and the production goes well with it.  Good west coast album.

''Only In California'' and ''backyard Boogie'' were the best songs on the album, this album wasn't so tight, you can't compare it to the first Mack 10 album or even to ''Bang Or Ball''...

Based On A True Story was tight not as great as his first album but still tight.  Bang Or Ball sucked.

My favorite songs are Inglewood Swangin' and What You Need (Dopeman '97).
