Title: Snoop Dogg Presents Tha EastSidaz
Post by: Tanjential on May 26, 2001, 03:10:51 AM
(http://images.allmusic.com/00/amg/cov200/drd900/d943/d94376io78r.jpg)
1.Intro To Indo ft.Dr.Dre-nice,battlecat beat with Latoya williams singin the hook to doggys angels 'gangsta in me' in the background
2.Now We Lay Em Down ft. Kokane-Kokane interpolates P-funk's "One Nation(Under A Groove)" over this funky ass battlecat track and snoop tray d and goldie all come great, one of the best on the album-4.5
3.Tha EastSidaz-i usually skip this track but it actually is solid shit,Tray Deee is one of the most consistent and dopest MC's in the game, this songs shows this well,-3
4.Dogghouse ft. Rappn 4 Tay,Tha (Twinz) Locs,-nice original funky production, amusing party jam, tight shit but nothin special really-3
5.Give It 2 Em Dogg-this showcases goldie loc well because even over a laid back low key track, Goldie Loc hypes this track up like whoa, still really the same ol gangsta shit, but executed well-3.3
6.Got Beef ft. Jay O Felony,Sylk E Fine-dope shit, gangst,tight lyrics flow beat everything,catchy as hell,all shine,but stagnated topics,still thoroughl entertaining-4.7
7.real talk-funny skit
8.balls of steel-nice beat,decent story,snoop comes okay,an interlude of sorts,weird track,still tight to a certain extent-3
9.Nigga 4 Life-original production, great chorus, bad azz and tray deee blaze this track up,still missing something from bein a classic track-4.4
10.G'd up ft. Butch-classic track, bangin funky beat, dope verses from all, great chorus, still missin something from beinga  perfect track-4.9
11.Another Day ft. Butch-beat tight, godie loc on a more human relatable level, butch harmonizes with the beats melody perfectly, dark tone, the albums direction sort of dwindles here which lowers the tracks rating unfortunately-4.2
12.tha mac 10 commandments-decent skit, nice beat,battlecat,no??
13.Ghetto ft. Kokane,Nate Dogg,Kam-Classic track, great melodies harmonies, kicks the album back into gear funky shit redoing an old rick james song of a similar title as you can tell from kokanes opening, some don't know that kokane interpolates P-funks' agony of defeet when he sings "eastsiiiiiiiiiiiiide" near the end, nate dogg's small part works well, woulda liked to hear more of him tho espec. w/kokane which brings this tracks rating down because he wasn't on this more, all verses tight as well-4.8
14.Big Bang Theory ft.Xzibit Kurupt Pinky CPO-Warren G needs to stick with the softer funk, this is evident on thsi track where warren struggles to make a "banger",warren g is fantastic but this is one of his lesser moments, still decent beat, Kurupt's flow is on point but his lyrics lack greatly except till the end of his verse, Xzibit great as usual, others come decent, xzibit brings this track up-3.4
15.Be Thankful ft. Kam Pretty Tony Warren G-nice positive track, all flows on point, above average lyrics but not trackripping shit,NICE soft funk beat, arguably classic track-4.7
16.How You Livin ft. Butch,Xzibit-NICE, love the way battlecat and butch harmonize throughout this whole album especially on this track, snoop comes better than usual here, butch and battlecat are a match made in heaven,xzibit/snoop have a nice lil outro talk thing, great track,-4.6
17.Take It Back To 85 ft. Kurupt,Butch-Cool shit, i'm gettin tired so it's hard to think of shit to say about these tracks, all flows on point, nice descriptive wordplay, cool old school chants that even my mom likes LOl "The roof the roof......" not funky enough for me so it brings down the rating to me-3.9
18.Tha G In Deee-WHOOOOO!!!Tray Deee one of my fave mc's finally gets 3 verses to his damn self, and he uses them well, well rhymed funny pimp shit, tight beat love them meech melodies, snoop hooks up tight hooks chorus as well, classic to me but thats arguable so...-4.9
19.Tha mac bible-see #12
20.Pussy sells ft. suga free-mo pimp shit, topic ad beat seems somewhat played out, but suga free's uniqueness saves this, others come aight but not to an extent to make this track really memorable so-3.5
21.LBC Thang ft. Butch-dope laid back funy west coast jaaam, melodies prevail once more, all come tight, classic to me, but arguable-4.9
22.Life Goes On ft. Kokane-touching shit, snoop's flow is a bit off but his lyrics are decent, voice and delivery is decent, kokane is outstanding, the beat is more detailed then you think listen closer, nice way to end, eerie yet funky but snoop could have done better so-4
some of the sweetest melodies ive ever heard, over-all decency, some real bangers and funked right out, near classic really, so i'd say overall-4/5

ayo jake,hook that cover up!!!
peace-Tanjint

Hey Tanjint good review.  One thing, I'm sure it wasn't Battlecat who produced "Now We Lay Em Down," it was Meech.  Peace!

I'm probably the biggest Eastsidaz fan in here, but I wouldn't call neither of their albums classic.

The reason why some people think of the 1st record as classic, is probably because it's ALL Westcoast.. Westcoast producers & featurings.. that's probably why some people suffer from the illusion that W.C.'s "Ghetto Heisman" is classic too..  ::)

Who said Ghetto Heisman was classic? That was one of the most dissapointing releases to me.

Eastsidaz first album 3.5 mics
Second album 4 mics

The first album was cool, I still bump it every now and then. I skip tracks in the first half of the album then it gets stronger to the middle and end.

The second album I can bump all the way through except for a couple of songs. I'd give it an even higher ratings if those Alchemist produced songs weren't on there. Those stuck out like a sore thumb. It easily could have been 4.5 mics. Tray Deee was ridiculous and Battlecat and Fredwreck were in a zone production-wise. Both Tray Deee and Goldie Loc grew as lyricists on this album.

NOW WE LAY EM' DOWN = perfect beat, perfect rhymes, Kokane = perfect track

Actually,I think 'Now we lay 'em down' has too much Kokane on it.

and the reviewer saying CPO, one of 'the others' just did a decent verse on 'Big Bang Theory'...wtf? CPO killed it and he's the main reason why I like that track so much.

Alltogether,it's very decent but I'm not a great fan of this one.

It's decent,I like the second one loads and loads more. It's nice for background music but to really listen it?? Nah,too slow, too long and too monotonous.
