Title: (FIRST BOOTLEG REVIEW) The Unreleased Dre Album!!!
Post by: Murrow on April 19, 2001, 11:24:07 AM
Okay, okay, I'm back wit a 13 track review of the Dre/Sam Sneed/Aftermath album that turned up a few months ago.  I thought this would be interesting for y'all, so peep it...

INTRO:  A 15 second intro taken from "The Aftermath" album.  Nuttin special here.

FIST FULL OF DOLLAS:  A song taken from "The Firm" recording sessions.  The beat is ill, I'm assuming it's Dre's.  This is Nature's song though, cause his rhymes fuckin rock.  Dre trades verses on and off wit him.  The 2 combined for the songs hook, "I got a fist full of dollas/Just for talkin that shit/Rich rap scholars?Just for talkin that shit/While we plan to live forever/You need to get ya shit togetha? And stop talkin that shit."  One of my favs.  4.5/5

BLUEBERRIES:  Many say this is a song that was ment to be on Sam Sneed's debut album, around '95.  This is a good song, but it lacks a hook, and there are only 2 verses.  Sam Sneed has some dope raps over a tight beat that may have been produced by either him, or Dr. Dre.  Snoop also talks in between verses.  3.5/5

LADY HERION:  DAM, it's a shame someone didn't release this track so people could hear how great it is.  For one, Sam Sneed & J. Flexx rap an incredible story with clever lyrics to match the crazy beat.  The instrumental is one of the best off this "album".  It's dark, I kinda picture it bumpin in a club.  I can't leave out the hook, which is catchy as fuck too.  I'm sure this is another song that was destined to be on Sam Sneed's album.  4.5/5

SOONER YOU GIVE:  This is a soul/r&b song from the little known group E.S.P.  They were prolly once going to be apart, or were at one point on Aftermath roster.  But shit most likely fell threw.  Unless you like deep soul and r&b, this isn't the song for you.  But I can gaurantee you would feel this beat.  3/5

NOTHIN TO IT:  Again, this r&b group Serenade probably were going for a spot on "The Aftermath" album.  No wonder they didn't make it, they are like every other r&b group.  it's just str8 r&b with a wasted beat that is tight.  3/5

4 IN THE MOURNIN:  This is a song that features Nature, and singer RC on the hook.  Here, Nature's rhymes take over the song.  The beat ain't much, guessing it's not one of Dre's by the sound of it.  I'm feelin RC's hook.  4/5

EVERYDAY THING:  This song has a couple alias's, "LA, LA", "Street Dreams", but it's def bangin.  I felt this song right off the bat.  Nas, Nature & Dre each contribute a verse over a slow, simple, but very nice beat.  Nature's verse is the same on "Firm Family", and Dre's is the same as Sam Sneed's opening verse for "Blueberries".  Man, I'm diggin Dre's verse for real, even tho they contain the same lyrics, Sam Sneed's is totally diff then Dre's just by how they are said.  This song could have been a hit today if it was acompanied with a good chorus.  Besides that, it's amazing.  4.5/5

GUILTY AS SIN:  A song that features gifted MC's Sharief, Drauma & Kurupt.  Seeing that Sharief was on "The Aftermath" comp, I take it thats what this song was recorded for.  Don't have a clue of who did the beat, but Sharief's opening verse is fuckin off the wall.  Unknown rapper Drauma comes tight too.  But Kurupt steals the show for me with his closing verse, w o w.  4/5

LET THE MADNESS BEGIN:  I don't see why this track didn't make "The Aftermath" album.  It;s the best r&b cut here, RC sings most of the time besides one verse from Drauma & Jheryl Lockhart.  The highlight for me is RC's spirited hook, whooo!  OH, and the beat is ill, some funkytirustic shiiit.  4.5/5

EXPERIENCE:  R&b vocal group Hands On perform this song.  I gotta say it's catchy cause of of the beat and their hook.  Beyond that, there ain't much fellas.  3.5/5

GET IT ON:  The second song from Hands On, but not as good as the first.  Again, a tight beat that is wasted on these chicken heads.  3/5

IN DA ZONE:  Not a bad song, it features Sma Sneed, J. Flexx & Drauma.  Great rhymes from all 3.  The beat is some spooky/killer shit that is dope.  3.5/5

WELL, these 12 songs were a suprise to me.  Most good enough that they should have been released back when they were ment to be.  They will prolly never make it onto an album though.  Out of 12, 3 come from the Sam Sneed sessions, maybe recorded around '95.  6 probably had a chance to be on Dre's Aftermath compilation judging from the artists.  Finally, 3 spawned from around '97, that were recorded when Dre hooked up wit The Firm.

I'd say the best songs are "Fist Full Of Dollas", "Lady Herion", "Everyday Thing" and "Let The Madness Begin".  Giving this an overall grade is tuff, it's not an official album, everything is mixed.  The quality of these tracks are good though.  Besides a few r&b cuts, this "album" is gravy.  Don't miss out on these songs, give em a listen if you can find them.  7.5/10

Okay, tell me what you think if you heard these songs.  POST YOUR OPINIONS!  PEACE!

i've got my fave tracks from this set up on a playlist on my Creative DAP (aka Nomad) (dope kit - i have all my fave albums on it - saves bashing them up)

I'm conditioned to the following in order - very dope tracks.

FIST FULL OF DOLLAS
BLUEBERRIES
LADY HERION
then
EVERYDAY THING

out of the non r&b cuts i just realised i've been sleeping on LET THE MADNESS BEGIN its a real spooky track - i've just added it to the list - so i'll learn this one soon ;)

Everyday Thing was actually released (as La, La i think) on a mix tape thingy at some point - and be warned... its a *really* addictive track.

Shit... i just realised that Ben Ballers page had a link to a former Aftermath act - I think it was ESP.

here we go

http://www.thenade.com/

it wasnt ESP - it was 'Nade' - two r&b cats

They began shopping material they worked on with different producers to record companies. Their first stop was MCA records. The company felt that it would enhance the group if extra members were added. The NADE wasn’t diggin that idea so they moved on. Next stop was Aftermath Entertainment. After listening to the group’s demo, Dr. Dre heard enough potential to sign them to a record contract. They began working with Aftermath’s staff of producers Bud’da, Stu-B-Doo, Mel-Man and Dre himself. Being around Aftermath’s style of music inspired Anthony to start producing.

The NADE was supposed to be featured on Dr. Dre’s compilation “ Dr. Dre Presents the Aftermath,” but Dre felt that their song was a bit too “happy.” This crushed them. At the time they disagreed, but now they have grown to see that he was right. However, since a considerable amount of time had elapsed, and the group hadn’t released any material, both parties involved felt it in their best interest to part ways on good terms. Last stop was Elektra Records. Using the songs they recorded with Aftermath along with new songs produced by Anthony, they gained the interest of Merlin Bobb and Sylvia Rhone. They recorded half an album, when all of a sudden, they were dropped from the label with no explanation whatsoever. That’s the business. From that point on, they knew they never wanted to do music under anyone else’s terms.

Well now that we know something about Serenade, I found something bout Drauma.  It ain't nothing much but he's on the credits for Ras Kas's album, "Rassasination".  I don't know for what song but @ bestbuy.com you see his name under the guests.  Did anyone hear him on the album?  This is strange, besides this, he hasn't appeared anything officially that I know of.  BUT, he's on "In Da Zone", "Let The Madness Begin" & supposidly "Street Dreams" or whatever the fuck people call it.  Thats three diff spans of music, maybe he wasn't on that song with Nature & Nas.  But he was on that Sam Sneed song, "In Da Zone" and on "Let The Madness Begin", which was recorded around '96.

sam sneed isn't on the released version of Lady Heroin.  Interesting fact about "Lady Heroin", in the beginning of the "California Love remix" video, when they show Dre at the mansion, the "Lady Heroin" with Sam Sneed is playing in the background.

There is two versions of "Everyday Thing", one has Dre rapping the last verse and one has Drauma rapping the last one...They're both pretty much the same verse, but it also happens to be the same verse Sam Sneed raps on "Blueberries"...What's up with this verse being so over-used?...Oh yea, and the beat is slightly different with each version.
