Title: Blueprint Review
Post by: grimace on November 25, 2001, 07:02:05 AM
I did this at another baord, and I decided to post it in here. Sorry if it's kinda F'ed up on the spelling.

When I bought the Blueprint, I wasn't quite sure WHAT to expect. Somewhat worried by the corny-yet-oh-so-catchy single H to the Izzo, I was somewhat expect this record to be a dissapointment. With no appearnces by the Roc, you kinda get worried. On one side, theres no Memphis Bleek ruining any songs, but at the same time there's no Bean's spitting that ill shit, which usually shone on each song (This ain't life, the last song on The Dynasty). His only guest is Eminem, which makes you wonder if it's gonna be "My Name Is" Em or the "Bad Meet's Evil" Em which usually shows up on his guest appearances.

1. The Ruler's Back- Bink comes through with a unique beat, and fits the title of the song PERFECTLY. The trumpets on the hook gave it a royal feeling. Jay-Z pulles some clever word usage on the second verse, taking a shot at the now former member of Team Roc (So you got a couple BEANS and you haven't got a CLUE//The situations BLEEK//......fuckin wit me, u gotta drop AMIL cuz if you gonna cop sumthin, you gotta cop fo' real//) *4.5*

2. The Takeover-An angry song with Jigga retaliating against some of the people talking about him latley. Mobb Deep and Nas are subject to the worst, with him clown Nas to the point where most Emcees would retire. (check the Source Hip-Hop Quotables this month for some of the Nas disses) Ending the song with an emphatic statment for the lesser artists out there dissing him: For the rest of ya'll takin shots at Jigga// You only get half a bar, Fuck Ya'll Niggas//. *5*

3. H to the Izzo-If you haven't heard it by now, you must not be living in a civilized country. Corny aas fuck, BUT there's no way you can say you haven't sung that hook. *3.5*

4. Girls, Girls, Girls-The second single. It might be played out subject matter, but Jay-Z has taken a fresh approach on that subject. with Biz Markie, Q-Tip, and The Ruler Slick rick doing the hook, how can he be wrong? *4*

5. Jigga that Niga-Blah. Wretched song, made for the club. Not my Steez *2*

6. You Don't Know-A story about Jigga growing from a hustler on the block to a millionare rapper, to a sucesful buisness man in the music industry, and even in fashion.*4.5*

7. Hola Hovito-Not the most amazing song ever done, but it gets you amped up. timbaland with an ill beat. *4*

8. Ain't no love-Basically Jigga talking about how people hate on him, and him telling them to lay off, and asking why all the hate. Nice song. *3.75*

9. Deep song, but i honestly don't like it. *3*

10. Make the Song Cry-An amazing song telling about Jay-Z's friendshiop with Biggie, but instead of talking about how they were best friends, Jigga tells the listener of all the bullshit Biggie put up with in the friendship and how Biggie was basically fed up with him, and sort of asking for BIG to forgive him for it. Classic *5*

11. All I need-Dope track. Running low on time, so im makin these shorter. *4*

12. Renegade-Jay-Z and Eminem duet/collabo. em comes hard as all hell on the track, and despite Jay's great verses, totally outshines Jigga. *4.5*

13. The Blueprint-Incredibley relaxed track, and on some deep shit. Jay-Z mentions someone, and how they contributited to his carreer, or his relatiopnship. This coulda easily been called "The Life And Times Of Shawn Carter". I can also imagine a video for this easily. Hope it's the next single.*5*

After 15 seconds of silence, HIDDEN TRACKS!!!
(they are all part of track 13, so don't try to skip to the next song)

14. 1,2,3,4- Jigga comparing Hip-Hop to exersizing. Illy. *4.25*

15. Girls.......(remix)-The remix of the original. I really don't like this remix. Blah. *(3*

All in all, this is Jay-Z's best record since Reasonable Doubt. Near classic.

9 out of 10.

How can you give it a 3.75 but procede to call him "Gay-Z".

And on a side note, how lame does Nas look using uninspired 12 year old humor by calling Jigga Gay Z and Roc-a-fella records "cock-a-fella" records...Hey Nas--Grow up, sunshine..damn.

Well..Only a 12 year old would write it one long sentence.  Also, way to avoid the subject, slugger.

Slugger,  wow how did you know i was good at baseball.  Anyways,  this album was not nearly as good as a lot of people say it is,  it had no replay value,  my favorite songs were girls, girls, girls an renegade.  I also liked tha way suge avoided tha fact that he acts like a 12 year old
