Title: Dmx- The Great Depression (First Listen)
Post by: AlerG on October 05, 2001, 09:05:49 AM
the new cd from dmx which hasn't been released but here's the review:
1. Sometimes (Intro)- Just An Intro

2. School Street- pretty sick beat where dmx just rips it up and this song is real raw and a good way to start off the cd, 3.5/5

3. Who We Be- y'all proabaly heard this cause it's one of the first two singles and it's maddd hardcore and i like this track alot. raw beat, raw lyrics and a catchy chorus. he basically describes all the roles people play. sounds like one of the tightest singles released this year, 4/5

4. Trina Moe- a good sounding song, recaps a little on his career over a nice beat. kind of sings on the chorus and ends it with his best impersonation of fred durst. good lyrics and a good song, definately something that i won't sleep on when i get the cd, 3.5/5

5. We Right Here- the other single of the two. this is a real tight track with a similar flow to what you heard on "what's my name" but it goes alot better over this beat and is used alot better on this one. cool beat, and different. normal dmx lyrics and a simple but catchy chorus, perhaps why it's one of the first singles, 4/5

6. Bloodline Anthem- whoa, a guitar riff and this song sounds sick. this almost sounds like a band was in the studio recording it. great chorus. sweet hardcore lyrics. one of the best songs i've heard from dmx in a minute. best song on the cd thusfar for sure. something that i wouldn't of expected to hear on the cd but it fits well. he seems to make his anthem songs tight as fuck, 4.5/5

7. Shorty Was Da Bomb- damn another tight song. i haven't heard anything bad on this cd yet. cool piano loop and a sound that sounds like what was used on 2Pac's letter to my unborn. the chorus on this one is sweet, makes me laugh a little bit. tight song all around. deep at times and a true song about baby's mommas, very creative for this type of song, 4/5

8. Damien III- the third time around, and the same tight chemistry on this one. new type beat and a new chorus which makes for an interesting song. damien even hollers at dmx about why he didn't talk about it him on the last album which i thought was cool. basically the same shit that you hear in the first two, dmx in truoble and trying to get away from damien. i like to hear these sequels keep going on cause i enjoy them, it isn't the best of the three but it's still tight, 3.5/5

9. When I'm Nothing- good sampling on this track and it sounds like something that would fit in well on the blueprint. i can't remember where i heard this beat before, someone help me out and let me know. this isn't a highlight track but it's alright, noting to get excited over with an alright chorus and alright lyrics, this 70s type beat is kind of out of place, 3/5

10. I Miss You- a tribute to his grand-ma which i think is real deep. it's almost like a dear mama because his parents weren't there for him so i'm guessin his grandma was his second mom. i nice tribute, 3.5/5

11. Number 11- dope beat straight up, a little more talking about what he's done already and some new shit dmx style. a rowdy song where dmx always shines the best on. good song all around, 3.5/5

12. Pull Up (Skit)- Just A Skit

13. Ima Bang- wild out people, this should be the next single. it's grimy, street, wild shit. awesome song, just crazy. again dmx shines the most on these get at me dog type songs. dope chorus, good little guitar riff in the backround, 4.5/5

14. Pull Out (Skit)- Just Another Skit

15. You Could Be Blind- a good beat, but nothing awesome but the lyrics definately take over the song when they kick. the chorus seems strange like something you'd hear on a jay-z but not a dmx cd, alright song though, 3/5

16. The Prayer IV- Just the annual dmx prayer that he has on every cd.

17. A Minute For Your Son- a deep song between dmx and god basically, so i can't knock it cause he does a good job towards it...but the beat isn't that great so that's what this track is lacking, 3.5/5

plus there's some bonus shit at the end with all the boys from bloodline records...

this cd is the best he's released since it's dark...and it's well put together and all i was lookin for...lots of good tracks and a real typical dmx cd, i give this shit a 4/5

Iam really anticipating this cd. And then there was X was dissapointing especially the beats but this new one sounds like its going to be tight.

Iam really feeling his single "We Right Here".

The new DMX cd is basically crap.  I dont like it and  a lot of my friends who were huge DMX fans have just given up on him after this flop.

I got the album today, and didnt like it much on the first listen. But it grew on me the following listen, and all in all, its a good album. Definatly better than his last two albums, but it doesnt touch his debut. 4/5

I really feel DMX joint, The Great Depression. It's a good 4.25/5 for me. It's raw, hardcore, grimy, entertaining and relentless. Those who don't like X should give it a listen and see for themselves (NEVER judge a book by its cover, y'all)...

Rivera if I judged a book by it's cover then this book would get a very high school considering the cover is kinda hot........I'm not going to rate it yet as I've only had the time to rate about half of it...........I'll have a review up this weekend. But based on what I've heard so far I can tell you it isn't that good as you peeps have said or the source. But I ain't complaining cause I didn't expect a very good album anyway when I bought this.
