Title: Doggystyle
Post by: Jay ay Beee on April 12, 2001, 05:34:07 PM
I thought I would jump in here with this review first, I knew someone would!

Right, Snoops debut, like Snoop himself it's idolised by the West coast music fans, but the East coast fans never caught on really.  I guess they don't have enough style!
This album was eagerley anticipated after people heard Snoop on the song Deep Cover and Dr Dre's The Chronic.  The anticipation showed in the huge sales it recieved.
Before I go through each track at a time I have a small confession to make.  I got into Hip Hop in '96 and whadda you know, the first album
I ever got was this.  But by then a certain song had been taken of the album because Dre, Suge whoever couldn't be bothered to gain permission to use a sample.  The song is Gz up Hoes Down.  Ladies and gentlemen my name is Joe, and I've never heard Gz up Hoes Down! Don't shoot me!  I don't think this affects my ability to review the album though, as rather sadly I know every single lyric off by heart!  Believe me I do have a life really!

Track 1

The intro involves Snoop in the tub with a girl, doorbell rings people come in and Snoop and Warren G conversate.  Their conversation is based on a similar conversation from the film Superfly.  Snoop says he wants to get out of the gang, Warren gets mad.  Queue funky, dramatic music, someone inhaling and then the trademark 'Like we always do about this time'  This links in perfectly with the start of the next track 'YEAHHHHH'.  It is so funky. Cool start, setting the album apart from The Chronic's less playful sound.  Dre -Hard but funky Snoop - Laid back and funky.

G Funk intro

The (Not Just) Knee Deep sample on the beat as it is in Dre Day, Who am I and Can't C Me, fast moving - FUNK G FUNK.  The only criticism of this track is that although Rage is an awesome rapper, it's Snoops album, I think he should have done more on the opening track.  But on the other hand 'I'm sippin on Tanqueray with my mind on my money and my mouth full of Ganja' is a classic line oooweeee.  And what can be said about RBXs vocals HOT.  Great short but funk filled track!

I'll post more later please carry on from Gin and Juice or just tell me what u think so far.  I think more than one person should put stuff into the review of this album, it is so legendary - so please continue i will post more lizzater

alright i guess i can continue a little, the review may suck , dis is my first tyme so i dunno
alright

track 3-"gin and juice"-  alright everyone has heard this, and u can tell this is dope, the beat it tight, the lyrics are tight, good flow, and the chorus/hook whatever u wanna call it is just legendary to its tight
i give this a *4.5 or 4 out of 5*

tracke 4- "tha shiznit intro" - this is just someone , i think its daz but i dunno sayin about a radio station , and that he's DJ sal-t-nuts and he is about to say what song is next which is "tha shiznit"

track 5- "tha shiznit" - as soon as u hear the beat u kno its definitley dope, that dope beat just keeps on comin.  then u start hearin snoop rap and its fuckin dope and this is a song u can just tell right off
dis gets a *4.5 out of 5*

track 6- lodi dodi intro - i really dont hear this that much but it is just peopel talking around and shit, i didn't really pay much attention to dis so someone tell me whas happening here

track 7- "lodi dodi" - this beat is just tight, its dope, the words are good and shit and just the chorus and how everything goes, its got snoop rappin tha whole tyme till dat otha girl comes on and snoop picks up from there
i give dis a *4 out of 5*

track 8- "murder was the case" - dis is just two guys talkin then they shoot snoop, then the song comes and its tight, its pretty good, the beat is tight, snoop rap good, it just expresses what would happen
this ssong gets *3.5 or 4 out of 5"

thas all for now
dis review maybe does suck i dunno first tyme y'all
i'll let someone else take over for tha rest of tha album ,dis album is so tight, its classic, so i might be back or have someone else take over
