Post by: Jay ay Beee on April 20, 2001, 12:05:16 AM
Biggies debut album
(http://images.allmusic.com/00/amg/cov200/drc300/c376/c37668p4306.jpg)
1. Intro as introes go this is awesome 4.5 but for sampling Snoop 5
2. Things Done Changed - "My mums got cancer in her breast/don't ask me why I'm motherfuckin stressed/ - hard shit - chorus samples Dre Good song - 3
3. Gimme the Loot - Amazing storytelling from Biggie - 3.5
4. Machine Gun Funk - 'I lived off the funk' not as funky as G funk tho, but still good - 3.5
5. The Warning - More good storytelling, funny skit at end - 3
6. Ready 2 Die - Not as scary as it could have been, Puffys on it so that brings it down obviously, but Biggies lyrics again shine - 3
7. One More Chance - Great song starts with answer machine messages, really good lyrics and strong chorus - 4
8. Fuck Me - Pretty funny
9. The What - feat. Method Man- good but could've been better - 3
10. Juicy - Lovely lyrics loveley song even Puffy can't bring it down CLASS - 4.5
11. Everyday Struggle - Good chorus good lyrics but nothing special - 3.5
12. Me and my Bitch - West Coast A bitch is a bitch - apparentley on the East your wife is a bitch I think this is good storytelling but Big is trying too hard to get a hard image on this track - 2.5
13. Big Poppa - Great chorus, lyrics aren't on his usual standard but still great - 4
14. Respect - Jamaican chorus from Diana King, again the lyrics dip but good tune and chorus - 3
15. Friend of Mine - Dissin hoez nice chorus but nothing memorable - 3
16. Unbelievable - Again not too memorable but far from a bad song - 3
17. Suicidal Thoughts - Great lyrics makes u think no chorus sort of an outro song but good nonetheless - 3.5

Legendary album - CLASSIC
Feels like a real work of art because of the heartbeats at start  and end
Awesome Lyrics from an awesome lyricist
8.5 out of 10

I know this was your opinion but were you drunk when you reviewed this album. Seriously Unbelievable was one of the best tracks to come out in 94. That track is classic. It deserves a 5. Premo on the beats, BIG on the mic. It doesn't get any better then that. If you don't think that is classic then.... shit, fuck it.

It is a classic i don't know why i said it wasn't but give sum1 this album and ask them the 5 top songs and no one would put Unbelievable there

A classic would be at least a 9.5 outa ten..never a 8.5, that's just near classic...

I've caught heat for this review man I was speaking from my point of view - West coast fan it ain't near Doggystyle, Chronic or Aquemini

It deserves a 10 in my opinion.  A 9.5 at the least. I think it's at the level of doggystyle and aquemni. But the chronic is in a whole different level.

But for real I just couldn't bump this shit as I could Doggystyle and Aquemini
I still stick to what I said about Unbelievvable tho - u don't come off this album thinking "What a song Unbelievable was"

I find it hard to believe that many of the songs got 3s and 4s. There are some classic tracks on there (some that deserve 5s).

No no no understand this
I think there is about 100 tracks in Hip Hop that should get 5s
I look down this board and see people giving 5 5+ and 6 for songs
A 5 should be a song that signifies a load of stuff
Nuthin' But a G Thang
There is no song on Ready 2 Die that has the quality or importance of that track.
Seriously you all need to look at ur ratings system again
The fact that the lowest mark for any song was 2.5 show how good this album is.
C'mon people

I THINK BIG POPPA DESERVED A 5 OR 5+ OR 6, THAT'S A DEFINATE HIP HOP CLASSIC RIGHT THERE, I DON'T THINK THAT ANY OF THE TRACKS ON THERE SHOULD GO BELOW 3.75 MOST SHOULD HAVE BEEN 4.5 OR 4'S

BUUUUUUUUUT THAT'S MY OPINION, JUST LIKE IT'S  JAY AY BEEE'S OPINION TO GIVE IT A LITTLE LOWER RATING

BUT ARGUMENTS LIKE THIS ARE GOOD FOR THE BOARD SO KEEP IT UP Y'ALL  8)

AND OH YEAH GUYS DON'T BE AFRAID TO VOICE YOUR OPINION, IF YOU THINK A TRACK OR ALBUM SUX DON'T BE AFRAID TO SAY SO OR RATE SO, DON'T RATE IT HIGH JUST BECUASE OTHER PEOPLE THINK IT'S TIGHT, RATE IT ON HOW MUCH YOU LIKE IT

Exactly...As a matter of fact, I think i'm the only one who actually like "Total Control"...I'm sure people lost respect for me after that Review..(Not like I ever had respect)...But I still think the same, and NO ONE replied...They probly think i'm a fool, but I dont care...I give props to Jay Ay Bee, for not caring about what people think...

Thanks for everyones feedback on this review- by far and away the most contraversial ever!
Big Jake you can't break the rating system.  You can't give out 5+ or 6s!

Dawg the only reason I continually argue with you in this forum is because of the respect I have for you - I might not agree with what you say but I challenge you because I know how much weight your opinions carry
Safe

PS I wasn't drunk when I wrote this!

i don't mean to sound cocky or arrogant but i'm the moderator i can allow what i want...i don't know why y'all are trippin so hard about the rating system.....it is a basic outta 5 system and it'll always be that way but y'all are gettin your panties in a knot about one dude exclaiming a song by giving it a 6, he's just exclaiming it like if i was rating The Chronic...it would seam kinda blan just to give it a 5 i mean damn this song is probably the most popular rap song ever! so why can't i give it a 6 and exclaim it...it'll only count as 5 but i'm going to put a highe number than 5 to get my point across...it's like on Say What kareoke on MTV people give out 100's and 69;s to some performances to exclaim how much they like it....it's not like it's going to count as a 69 when they add up the totals but no one on the MTV trips about it cuz it's only gonna count as a perfect 10......so quit trippin off this fucking subject of 6's and 5+'s , like my homie says, people who trip off little shit in their lifes must not have much of one...

good point bigjake...but here we got new comers coming in everyday and they dont know the rating system and they look at 6 as like 6/10...Where in Say what, everyone already knows its outta 10...I think 5+ is good to get your point across and not be confusing...Peace
