Title: A poll just out of curiosity...
Post by: Sikotic™ on August 22, 2004, 10:38:00 PM
I personally, would like to live in a diverse population of people. The reason being, is because when you live in that kind of environment, you  seem to be more open minded and exposed to different ideas/cultures. People that live in populations that are not diverse seem to be very closed minded in my view, bit then again they seem very comfortable.

I liked it the best when I was the only one with my nationality.  :)

I dont mind diversity.  But also i want to be around my own people as well.  I dont want to be the only white guy around.  I dont mind diversity i like it.  except when it gets to the point when im the outsider now.

diversity is always better because you can easier practice things that your race is not as much in as other races... like playing basketball, eating chinese and mexican food ... and so on. I'd like to have ppl around me that like Rap & Basketball as much as I do, but I dont, you know.

I've heard it all now.  Diversity is better because white people can learn how to eat chinese food.

it's about having the chance to experience other cultures and by that gaining the chance to practice hobbies and other stuff ... blacks can listen to brian wilson and whites can listen to michael jackson and so on.. cultural diversity brings veriety which can only be good and makes life less boring, since you know more things and you might like more things.

Wouldn't make a difference to me, I'd just continue to live my life as I normally do.

i'm not sure.. i think it might make people keep to themselves more

i wonder if this has been tried.. ?

cheaper house when u have white | black | mexi | chinese... etc etc..

would people be swapping houses?

would they fight?

would they be all nice n happy?

would they move out in a short period of time?

i'm of an opinion that the next boundary above colour is money

I live in the most diverse place in America and I must say, it's great. But what U have to realize is, seperation will always be in progress. Like for example, Asians still kick it only with eachother even though it's diverse as fuc out here. Class seperation, now that's different, like if U have a white dood dats from the bottom in my neighbourhood, everyone's coo wit it and kick it like it's nothing, but as soon as U have some upper class white dood come thru, U can smell it from a mile away, he don't belong out here, so people check em. So for the most part, it's class seperation. Every part of the country is different though. I could go on for days with examples, but I'm too layzie.

so i can't listen to michael jackson until a black person lives around me? that sucks....

i think i get what you're saying though. the community where i live tends to the people that live in it, that's why we have tons of italian restaraunts and pizzarias, and just a few mexican restaraunts...in fact i think we have more indian cuisine than mexican....

maybe because it's approximately the same amount of diversity.
notice all is in America (not USA; North America). The melting pot.

I figured Toronto would be higher, its 50% immigrants and 40% homosexuals there.

Well then you've never been to Toronto. We don't just have at least one of every type of person we got entire sections of them. Korean, Vietnamese, Chinses, Japanese, Sri Lanken, Somolian, Jamaican, Guyanese, Trinadadian, Latino, Greek, Italian, Russian, rich Jewish, poor Jewish, Black ghetto, Arabic, Persian, Indian, Pakistani, Philipino. I could keep going. It's not just like there is one here and there, it's like I could go to a part of the city and the whole area is catored towards that culture. There's store's with their food, the clothing style, their schools.

Oh a Lincoln, where do you get %40 homosexuals. Sure we got what I think is the second largest gay community next to San Fran but %40 is really high. It's no where near that.

I was just fooling around with 40%, just an exageration. But it is pretty high isn't it?

you have that in queens too.  Astoria Queens has the largest greek population outside of the mediterrian.  Ozone Park/South Ozone Park/Richmond hill largest indians population outside of india (ruined the southside of queens).  Richmond Hill aka little guyana.  Howard Beach nicknamed little italy an ozone park was called that 2 but the neighborhood changed.  Jackson Heights an East Elmhurst columbian an ecudorian.  Maspeth Queens aka Pollock Alley.  Ridgewodd Queens all german.  Flushing queens all korean n chinese.  Even the Major stores in the area are written in korean an chinese.

I would definitely prefer to live in a place that has little to no diversity. I have personally spent all my life here in Ohio where the overwhelming majority of people are white, with a small minority of black people. There are no Hispanics, Middle Easterners, Indians, etc here and that is just the way I like it. I have been to big cities like San Francisco and New York and it was like I had left America and visited a third world country. Nobody speaks English, the neighborhoods are run down, tons of crime....its absolutely horrible. I am much happier living in the Midwest where everyone looks the same, speaks the same language, takes care of our communities, shows patriotism, and shares the same traditional American values. That is the America that I know and prefer.

I never meant to imply that Queens or New York wasn't diverse, but you said it was the most diverse. There isn't a single race present in New York that isn't here. However, correct me if I'm wrong, there aren't many Sri Lankens, if any at all, in New York, and not too many Somolians. We have the foriegn language signs on stores here too.

Well I 'll tell you anyway. Sri Lanaka is a war torn country in Asia, near India. Sri Lankan people are very dark skinnined and the ones around here have a rather large asppreciation for Reggae music, the new Reggae. You know the dance hall stuff like Sean Paul. There is a very large population of them in Toronto. Percentage wise it's probably like the amount of Latinos in some US cities. They are also known as Tamils, for their religion I think, and many (but not most) are involved in crime. The Tamil Tigers is a militia in Sri Lanka that attempts to over throw the government there, or something like that, and many of it's members came here and continued their criminal ways, recruiting younger teens into their gangs.

They certainly aren't to be taken lightly. Based on the military training of the older ones, I'd say they're more dangerous than most (if not all) black gangs. Of Course I don't know how they'd stack up against the guy in in your sig. He was a pretty serious guy in his day. Italians pretty much control the docks around here and have a lot to do with how the Biker's conduct themselves, but the Tamils have their little peice of the pie too.

That's no way to look at things. I'm sure far enough down the line you come from immigrants too. Besides most of them are normal law abiding citizens that cause no problems. Much like Blacks or Sicilians, it's the minority of trouble makers that leave a bad image of the rest of them

I would prefer a place where everyone has the same culture or a culture very similar to mine. I grew up mostly in Messina, Italy and Barcelona, Spain but I also lived in the US and right now I am living in Turkey. Turkey isn't too bad because the culture is Mediterranean culture but I never could get used to the US but I didn't mind San Antonio when I lived there I felt sorta at home there.

It certainly isn't any city in Turkey... I haven't seen one black person (who isn't from an American military base) and I have been here around 5 months and traveled a good portion of the country. Ethnic here is being a kurd and they look just like the turks.

I just did a search for the most diverse place in the world (because I thought Vancouver was), and the results I got were, (in no order), Queens, San Franciso, Sacramento, Toronto and Vancouver.  So I dunno.

How is that racist? I mean if he prefers to live with his own people then that is his preference. You can't force diversity on people. There are people from every race who prefer to live with their own people. Don't be ignorant.

I have learned more living in the LA area, with blacks, latinos, islanders, asians and of course whites, than I did living the great white north of Minnesota. So with that, I'll take diversity anyday. I also live in a neighborhood that's highly diverse in San Bernardino, yeah, go figure because we all mixed in this area... lol. It's easier to get along I think, because race is not an issue no more for people, were as even in places of California that are self segrated, race is huge, and same with Minnesota. Once people begin moving in and becoming neighbors, then race is more second thought. And it's cool when I ride the bus, and I see old white guys and black guys talking like old friends. I think California is the starting point of good racial relations. Now I don't think it's perfect, far from it, but it's moving in the right direction, and many other states are becoming more diverse. We'll see what happens.

When you say that do you mean you've gotten them to tell you they are, or you've gotten them to perform acts of lesbianism? Big difference. Personally, to each his own (or her own in this case), but I always felt it has a lot to do with how society and the media present it. If TV and movies over the next 25 years were to portray homo-erotic behaviour between two guys as cool or arousing, I'd bet that you'd see a lot of guys try it out of curiosity. Girls see that all the time in commercials and movies. It becomes acceptable. The "all men are dogs" theory helps them get closer. I actually know one girl that puposely used that to fuck other girls. She was like an evil demon ruining the lives of young girls everywhere. Seriously though, she didn't want to pursue a lengthy relationship or anything, she had a boyfriend. She just didn't like being treated as inferior so she took it upon herself to be the loser guy that goes around fucking girls and then never seeing them again. I guess it gave her power. It turned around on her though. One girl became obsessed with her and it turned into this whole stalking scenario. I think it's still going on. Serves her right.

I don't even think it's a media thing anymore, even thought the media does play a role in female bisexuality...If you just see girls on the streets, they're always checking out other girls...It comes natural. The way girls are portrayed as beautiful and desirable in our society makes other girls appreciate and want their beauty in more ways than one...Two girls will and always has been a sexy and delicate thing...Two big/hairy men on top of eachother is viewed as disgusting and unsexy...It's just something I've learned from experience with girls.

Yeah I figured you were but some may have taken it literally. There is a large Gay community here though. They have this big parade every year. But it isn't that big. What I'm trying to say is that if movies and shit started doing shit like a sex scenes with two guys, and the girl in the movie getting aroused, I think it could start influencing the younger audience. Little boys well before hitting puberty become accustom to seeing two girls on one guy as a fantasy. Young girls don't see two guys on one girl, at least not in a positive light. It's usually a rape scene, not a sex scene. If there was a movie with Halle Berry having a threesome with Brad Pitt and Denzel Washington today it would not be seen as a complete fantasy for all girls, just like a 3 way with Humphrey Bogart fucking Greta Garbo and Ingrid Bergman 65 years ago would have been offensive to a lot of people, but over time it would catch on and become accepted by the female mind as something that is sexy. We may not see this as straight guys because when we see Brad Pitt topless or naked it doesn't mean shit to us, but to a girl that's a different story. I'm not going by on what I've told, I'm trying to logically figure it out. I could very well be wrong, but I don't exactly believe everthing I'm told by girls on what they think of things, because they lie to guys all the time. And people in general usually don't express what they truly feel, they say what thay think would be the best answer.

I don't think girls just say what guys like to hear, because most of the girls I've known have had trouble admitting to themselves and to other people that they're bi...I dunno, I guess it's just a theory of mine which I strongly believe in.

I think it started when I tried to explain how the Toronto gay population wasn't as big as it seemed. The NIK claimed that all girls are bisexual, and it all went from there.

I still think it stems from society. The media makes it cool aand the playful nature in with each other makes it acceptable. I general girls are more affectionate with each other. Guys aren't because it isn't manly, but if it were seen as manly then I bet we'd see a lot more guys experimenting then we do now. That's my view on it anyway. Likw I said before, I could be wrong. Oh and as for what girls say NIK, c'mon man they're always ful of secrets and lies. Down right goddamn confusing most of hte time. I've seen girls act the exact same way around a guy they really like and want as they do a guy they hate and want to get rid of. From what I understand, they act like assholes to guys they like to figure out if the guy will run off easily or if he'll put in effort and they act like assholes around guys they hate to keep them away. How the fuck is anybody supposed to know which one it is with them? I'm not saying it's all girls, some are honest and tell it like it is, and some are just sluts and'll fuck whatever, but I have seen a lot of cases like the one I mentioned. Of course since leaving high school a few years ago I've seen less and less of this insane behaviour, but when I worked at a high school as an assistant teacher last year and the year before I saw it all again.

I don't associate with those types of females...The females I associate with are open, honest, and nice...If not, I don't give them a second chance. I guess, like you said, if male homosexuality was accepted, then we'd see a lot more guys doing gay stuff, and maybe even enjoying it. But since it's not like that, guys don't fantasize about guys, while girls do fantasize about girls, naturally...I guess everyone is born bisexual, and develop a sexual preference based on what is accepted, and what the media shows as sexy and right...That's why I believe all (or most) girls today are bisexual, and I don't think anything can change my mind about that.

No I have to disagree with you on that one I think you take it way to far. Many girls today fantasize about kissing (or more) other girls - yes, Im good with that. Maybe they also are potentially bisexual. Because of media and stuff, right.
But:
I cant imagine everybody being born bisexual and going after what's common and accepted. No, this cant be. The meaning of life is keeping your race alive. In our case, the human race. And you simply cant do it if you only have sex with people the same sex as you are. If you take it to the extreme, our race would die out. And this cant be the principe a race is based on. We are supposed to have Sex with women, and women are supposed to have Sex with Men. Only thing is, sometimes their minds work different - like with ppl who fuck their sister, which is also not supposed to be (that's why it doesnt really work), just a little more drastic. It's simply not in the instinct of a living being to make out with partners of the same gender. But humans have always been kinda special animals.

Well, East Coast Girls Are Hip
I Really Dig Those Styles They Wear
And The Southern Girls With The Way They Talk
They Knock Me Out When I'm Down There

The Midwest Farmers Daughters
Really Make Me Feel Alright
And The Northern Girls With The Way They Kiss
They Keep Their Boyfriends Warm At Night

I Wish They All Could Be California Girls
I Wish They All Could Be California Girls

The Westcoast Has The Sunshine
And The Girls All Get So Tan
I Dig a French Bikini on Hawaiian Island dolls
by a Palm Tree In the Sand

I've Been All Around This Great Big World
And I've Seen All Kinds Of Girls
...but I Can't Wait To Get Back To The States
Back To The Cutest Girls In The World

I Wish They All Could Be California Girls
I Wish They All Could Be California Girls

Girls, Girls, Girls

Wait a minute here. No one is trying to change your mind. I just wanted to point out that I believe that their are factors that shape a persons sexuality and sexual desires. We grow up in a society where the playboy bunny is the most desirable. If we grew up in a society where the 300 hundred pound woman was the showcased object of desire then we would most likely be attracted to that. I think it all depends on what we are shown and presented in life and that dictates what we desire. Some might rebel against that and go for the opposite of what they are "supposed to", but one could argue that the guy who prefers fat chicks and does so because he refuses to conform would be the same guy who would love slim chicks if the fat chick was presented as the object of beauty. Also you said that you don't associate with foul minded girls. Therefore you wouldn't know what they prefer and could not make a logical claim for all girls. Now I'm not saying you're wrong, but you are wrong to say "all girls are.....". Just like I would be if I said something like that. The truth is we don't know "all girls" we only know a small fraction of all girls. If we were to survey all different types of girls then we could at least have something, but what you have is all the open, honest, and nice girls you know. So what you should say is "based on my observation I've come to the conclusion that most open, honest, and nice girls have bisexual desires". I don't mean to be a know it all or to try and teach you a lesson, I'm just speaking my mind. I don't mean to be offensive in any way.

Oh and 7even, you seem to have figured out the one question that has plagued philosophers for thousands of years; The meaning of life. You're amazing. I can't belive I've been wasting my time with Jesus all these years, I should be following you. The bottom line is don't claim to have a definate answer to a question that we as humans can never answer, or at least have never answered. It just makes you look stupid. We don't klnow the meaning of life. To all those that say it is to keep the race alive, one could simply ask; what would the point be if we aren't around to see it? Why should we work towards something we will not live to experience. Would it not be more practical to base one's life on self presevation, and in some cases having children that need to be raised could keep you from doing all that you can while you are here (of course depending on your life style children could be an asset, but also a liability). I'm not saying that the meaning of life is to live as long as you can while doing the least you can to acheive that, I'm just saying "I don't know". You should try it.

^ It seemed to fit since we were talking about all the diversity in california.

Anyways, in the renaissance, fat girls were considered the most attractive.  A fat woman was thought to be more desirable, because it related to a class that had enough wealth to eat well.

Yeah I know, just like in carribean countries a fuller body is more accepted and how in the 80s a really skinny supermodel was the girl of choice. I remember when a big ass was a bad thing. Since J Lo, it's the ass of choice. However I doubt that too fat was accepted. I don't know for sure and I 'm not going to pretend to but I always thought the renaissance era held slightly larger women as attarctive, not insanely obese. Also the higher class thing could also mean that the guys just wanted richer women and sacrificed what they sexually desired for social status. Just a thought.

And as for the Beach Boys song, I thought you were trying to tie it in to bisexuality amongst women. I didn't see how that have worked, however it works fine in the case of diversity. Sorry, I was just a little confused.

That's why I said all OR MOST...Maybe it's just the way most of the females around here are, but I watch Howard Stern and those type of interview shows, and when Howard Stern interviews most of the girls from any country, the girls all talk about their desires, fantasies, and experiences with other women...The girls I know that wont admit their bi, are the same girls that you can tell wouldn't admit it even if they were...Maybe I'm just babbling on, but I strongly believe in my theory...PeACe

Dont try to front, cause that makes you  look stupid right now.
You ask why should we work towards something we will not live to experience... I answer: there's no reason, you can kill yourself, wont matter much in the end. youre not that special. the world can do without you. and yes, the human race will die out sooner or later, just like the dinosaurs did. those things do happen.
you say "I dont know". wow, now that makes you of course lookin smarter than me. not thinking about things is always the easiest way. and further, it's not my way. still, I let you be the agnostic person that you want to be, you do your thing I do mine, in the end all that matters that we both die in the end.

I asked that question rehtorically. I wasn't actually looking for an answer. Just because I say "I don't know" doesn't mean I never think about it. The problem    I had with what you said was that you made it seem like the answer was obviously we live to pro create, and then you completely discounted NIK's theory that we are born bi sexual based on your answer. Now if what you said just came across wrong and you meant it as a theory then I apologize, but if not then I don't. I say "I don't know", because we don't "know", and that's that. This doesn't mean I don't want you to think about it, this just means I think it's wrong for you to think about it come to a conclusiion and then present that solution as the definitive answer. Just like we don't "know" the human race will eventually die out. We cannot predict the future. It is a very strong theory but ultimately that is all it is. Who knows what could happen in the future and keeps us alive as a species?

well, I think you take it too far.
By your choice, Im not even allowed to say that in December, the Olympics in Athens 2004 will already be over. Because I dont "know". I cant predict the future. From now on, we should all make a theory out of everything we say aight? K.
My theory  is that the meaning of life is to reproduce to keep ones race alive. Or let us be politically correct, like you obviously prefer it, and say species instead of race. That's also the reason why things like "love" emerged. Since humans are weak as hell after they're born and cant do shit on their own, the parents have to stay together for a while until their children are old as hell (unlike other animals). That's why your brain gives you the impulse that you "love" somebody, and want to be with that person for a very long time, maybe even the rest of your life.

I'm sorry if I come across as being close minded or stubborn. I just thought it was wrong for you to say we "can't" be born bisexual because the meeaning of life goes against that. As for the olympics being over by december, one could very well say that based on experience. We have seen many olympics and every one of them were over with in a few weeks. We've only really know about one major extinction and we (scientists) can't even agree on what caused it. We are pretty sure that the dinosaurs did not have the technology we have and will probably have in the future, so it is safe to at least assume we could be more prepared for something drastic happening to our world and survive it. If something drastic even happens. We have no evidence to show it will happen. With the summer games we have evidence that no olympics in recorded history have gone through the entire fall and into december, so it is safe to assume that this year's games won't either.

I dunno, but whatever love is, it's good...Isn't it better to have someone that you care for, who can help you out and be there for you, rather than to just be all alone?

Yea of course love is one of most beautiful things in the world. Still it has its kind of scientific and therefore maybe disappointing origin... but that doesnt kill love for me. Just because I believe to know it's all in the brain for survival reasons, that doesnt make me an unloving person or a person that hates everybody. Further, I also assume that "hate" emerges due to an impulse in the brain as a sort of protection-related thingy. Most of the time, ppl hate things/other ppl because they dont know enough about it or because they had a/many bad experience(s) with it, or heard bad things about it. So they intend to protect themselves of it. Dont get too close dont make friends and maybe retaliate or kill the enemy is the result.

Eventhough i enjoy living in a diverse area, i would like to live in an area with people of my nationality, simply because i find that i'm more comfortable because of common mentality, simillar sense of humor, and morals. Unfortunately many people of my nationality (the ones in America) are not on my level intellectually (not trying to brag, but it's true). But then if there were more itelligent people of my nationality i'd love to live in that kind of environment.
