WHO Is the Most Powerful Man In Music?
By Cathryn Conroy, CompuServe News Editor
Bono. U2's front man, who divides his time between the band and worldwide charitable works, has been named the most powerful man in music, Reuters reports of a poll of top music industry executives that will be published in the British music magazine Q. Bono was given the nod not only because of his music, but also because of his high-profile pronouncements on political issues ranging from Third World debt to the enlargement of the European Union. Bono has used his fame--U2 is still enjoying worldwide hits 25 years after it was formed--to gain access to the world's leaders to lobby for his special causes.
Can Bono save the world? Well...CAN he?
So who else was named to this list of powerful people in music? Doug Morris, head of Universal; rapper Eminem; L Lowry Mays, founder of Clear Channel; the late Kurt Cobain; Sir Paul McCartney; Yoko Ono; Simon Fuller, the creator of the Spice Girls; and Dr. Dre. Even "American Idol's" Simon Cowell made the list at No. 28.

The most powerful man in rap goes [or rather went] by the name of Tupac Shakur. I dont give a fuck if he's dead, his impact is STILL being felt, and probably moreso than ever. Pac is the one who almost every MC today is measured by. He is the MC everyone wants to be, and his catalog album sales are greater than most of today's rappers NEW albums. His words continue to hit us like no one else's can. Pac will always be the most powerful figure in hip hop, just like Bob Marley is in reggae.
