Expert: Hair in Peterson boat consistent with Laci's

REDWOOD CITY, California (AP) -- Two strands of dark hair found on Scott Peterson's boat could not have come from him and are consistent with strands taken from his slain wife's hairbrush, a prosecution expert testified Wednesday.
Karen Korsberg, an FBI trace evidence expert, took the stand as testimony turned to the hairs, a key piece of physical evidence to bolster the prosecution's contention that the boat was used to dispose of Laci Peterson's body.
Prosecutors say the hair found on the boat is significant because, they contend, Laci Peterson was never on the boat and was even unaware her husband had bought one.
Korsberg said her tests excluded the possibility that the hairs, found on a pair of pliers on the boat, came from Scott Peterson. She said they were consistent with the hair on his pregnant wife's brush.
Laci Peterson, eight months pregnant, vanished just before Christmas 2002 from the couple's home in Modesto. Her remains and that of her fetus were found on the shore of San Francisco Bay several months later.
On cross-examination, Korsberg acknowledged that she was unaware of a pubic hair collected from duct tape found on Laci Peterson's remains and never compared that to the samples she was given from Laci's hairbrush.
Korsberg said she forwarded the two hairs to another FBI lab for further testing, a technique known as mitochondrial DNA. Defense lawyers have attacked the mitochondrial testing, calling it the unreliable subject of "raging debate" among scientists.
Defense lawyers also have attacked the way police collected the hairs from the pliers. Detectives testified that they took one hair from the pliers, but months later discovered two strands inside the evidence envelope.
Sarah Yoshida, a state criminalist, testified Tuesday that she found no signs of blood or tissue on two pairs of Peterson's pliers seized by police, including the tool where the hair was discovered. Under cross-examination, she said the pliers were rusty and showed no signs of recent use.
Testimony on Laci tip
Prosecutors allege Peterson killed his wife in their Modesto home on or around December 24, 2002, then drove to San Francisco Bay and dumped her body from his boat. Peterson says he went on a fishing trip that day and returned home to discover that his wife was missing.
Defense lawyers contend someone else abducted and killed Laci, then framed their client after learning of his widely publicized alibi.
Also Tuesday, prosecutors presented evidence intended to bolster the prosecution's contention that police exhausted all leads in their investigation of Laci's disappearance. Two investigators said that they pursued a tip that Laci Peterson was being held in a rural area about 30 miles from her home.
Modesto police officer Eric Beffa testified about an anonymous tip police received in early January 2003, just weeks after the disappearance, that Laci was being held captive near Tracy, a suburb west of Modesto.
On cross-examination, defense lawyer Mark Geragos noted the tip also included mention of a van.
Neighbors of the Petersons told police they saw a "suspicious" van with three men in the area around the time Laci Peterson vanished. It's a detail Geragos has continually brought up as he works to create reasonable doubt.

Yeah, really nobody important. The case gained national media attention whenever his wife went missing, pregnant, and the family spent so much time and effort trying to find her. Her husband sold her car while she was 'missing' (why would you sell her car if you think she's coming back?), he had bought a boat and not told her about it, he had made some concrete weights in his garage, that were now missing, LOL I mean, the shit looked BAD. Now they've found hair of hers, on the boat.

where in the article does it say he is well off. the article said he was out money for legal fees.

Because he hired Geragos in the first place. Do you think Mark Geragos, Michael Jackson's original lawyer, is going to work for someone with nothing? The article shows that DNA tests cost $10,000. It's patently obvious that he had enough to pay Geragos, but now the costs are running too high for him. He's probably spent about a million already. And again, he has a boat.

If i had a family, and owned a boat. im 90% sure my wife would be on my boat once in awhile.
How is that evidence? Or am i missing something.

He found hair in the boat, big deal. First of all, the hair wasn't pulled out violently or anything, it was just shed. It was his fuckin wife, I'm sure she was in the boat before and the hair could of fallen out at any time.
They have no concrete evidence, it's all circumstancial. Eventhough I feel he did it as well as everyone else does, they shouldn't convict him. He probably will though because the media made him guilty until innocent to begin with.

The fact of the matter is that everyone THINKS he's guilty, but no one can prove it.

I agree, they have no concrete evidence on him. From the evidence they have now, he better not get convicted, but of course everyone thinks he's guilty thanks to the media.
Im not saying that he's guilty, but who cares let him walk. Im just saying that everyone deserves a fair trial, and if they dont have any good evidence on him, then he shouldnt go to jail.

Concrete Evidence: she's never been on the boat, she didn't even know he had one. Her hair, however, is on the boat. Her body, was found in the water he went 'fishing' in. He made concrete weights, in his garage (the outline of them and the equipment is still on the floor). The weights he made are missing. LOL I mean, come on man. Put 2 and 2 together.

I think he is guilty like the next man, but there's only one thing in the case that damns him. The prosecution hasn't been handling the case that well either. Unless Mark Geragos fucks up big time or the prosecution finds something really damaging other then a bunch of opinions, the dude should get off. Unless the jury is gangsta.

But here's what I don't understand, how does the prosecution know Laci was unaware that her husband had a boat? is there concrete evidence that the boat was bought recently prior 2 the death?
BTW, this guy certainly had mental problems if he did kill her....if U tired of her, why don't U juss get yourself caught for cheating on purpose? then U can divorce her and move on....no reason to finish her.

There's also the generally cold demeanor of Scott since she went missing; for instance, a dog handler testified recently that when he went to get info from Scott, Scott told him not to write notes on the table, blah blah blah and was making a fuss about the guy not scratching the furniture (when a normal person would have just been thinking about their missing wife) circumstancial, again, though.
- Scott was given a tip that Laci had been spotted the day after, in Washington. His mom called and left a message on his answering machine, asking if he was going to catch a plane to Washington to check it out. Scott can be heard laughing @ the idea (actually laughing) on the phone tap.
- Unbelievably, there's also a tape of Scott checking his voicemail, and there's a message from his mom, again, saying that an object they had found on the bottom of the lake, had turned out to be a boat anchor, and not Laci. Scott's heard whistling like "whewwww" after he hears the message. LOL
THEY'RE PLAYING THIS SHIT IN COURT! If I was a juror, I mean, what else can you say? The guys' whistling relief on the tape.
- Two weeks before she dissapeared, Scott found out his girlfriend was about to find out he was married... that night, he went on the internet, and searched classified ads for fishing boats, and scanned photos and pages on the bay where his wife's body was dumped.
- After she died, he called and had Playboy added to his cable. Then, he had playboy removed, and two XXX hardcore channels added. The day the police did a search of his home, he called, cancelled his cable, and told the cable company he was moving overseas. LOL
- When the police asked Scott what he was fishing for, he couldn't answer. Later, he said he was fishing for Sturgeon. A fishing expert has testified he didn't have the correct tackle and never would have been able to catch a Sturgeon (they're large fish) unless the hook happened to catch in the fish's side as it swam by, LOL!
- Scott claims he saw Laci the morning of Dec. 24th... the only problem is, he told her mom she was curling her hair, he told police she was mopping the floor, and he told a cousin that she was watching television the last (3?) times he saw her. Inconsistancies don't look good, Scott.
- Laci's sister asked Scott a couple months before Laci died if he was ready for fatherhood. He replied "I was kind of hoping for infertility"
- He told two of Laci's cousins that he was golfing when she dissapeared. He told everybody else he was fishing.

Yeah, he was a real asshole to his mother-in-law. Did you hear the other conversation where she started screaming at him and accusing him o fmurdering Laci. He never defended himself, he was just being sarcastic about the whole situation as if it was wasting his time lol.

ON THE OTHER HAND, just to be fair, because I'm a Libra, you know, we're very balanced. LOL. Anyways, just to be fair, it's hard to understand how somebody in his situation would act. First, he was fucking around on his wife, and obviously didn't want a baby, because he'd made remarks before. He's unhappily married, doesn't want a baby, doesn't like his wife's mom, etc. etc. So if she DID happen to end up missing, maybe the way he treated his mother in law wasn't out of character, since he hated her anyways?
What it all comes down to is this, though: WHAT THE FUCK ARE WE TALKING ABOUT? She wasn't raped, she wasn't robbed, she wasn't ANYTHING. She was 8 months pregnant and as such very unappealing to a majority of men @ the time, there's absolutely NO MOTIVE for anybody to have kidnapped and killed her, OTHER than Scott! He obviously did it.... NOBODY ELSE WOULD HAVE.

We gotta analyze: How often, truly, do people get murdered with absolutely no reason? Usually, there's a robbery, a rape, a kidnapping, somebody knew someone, love's involved, something. Somebody cut somebody off in traffic, shit, SOMETHING. This all happened @ his house, with no signs of breakin, no signs of a struggle, nothing missing, her car's in the driveway, he says he was in two different places, tells his girlfriend she's dead, then changes it back, he's fishing the same day in a lake that her body gets found in months later, her hair's on the boat but she's never been on it, he was cheating on her, and didn't want a son, when the bodies get found, he's on his way to mexico with his hair bleached blonde, and tells the cops he went swimming and his hair got bleached? It's just all so crazy. One thing's for sure, guilty or not, this guy's a DUMBASS. STUPID FUCKER, I could have killed somebody better than he did. He could have at least TRIED to have a fucking alibi. Make it look like a robbery, something, shit.
