Title: UR FAVOURITE RAP STAR AND HOW YOU FIRST HEARD THEM
Post by: FILA::AUS on September 14, 2002, 10:23:27 PM
Please pick only 1!!!!!!!!!!!

My fav is Too $hort.

Actually I was extremely slow to find out about Short, coz he basically dont exist in this part of the world, and his records cannot be bought in stores.

I first read and article on him in the Source when that Nationwide Indpendence Day compliation was coming out. And they called him a west coast legend. And I was like 'legend' and i neva heard of him.

I looked on the net and I found that he had 10albums out by then and i thought i was looking at a wrong Too Short. Then I found Cocktails at a second hand sales and I gave it a spin and one line got stuck in my head and I bought it straight away. The line went:

'I can pull out my little black phone book,
Flip every last page take a long look,
And then pull out a bitch like a rabbit outta hat,
Nigga If I want i can have it like that'

I thought that was soooooooo smooth when i was 12.

Ummm... a hrad question...

Snoop Dogg. I first heard (of) him when I was the Nuthin' But a G Thang video on Yo! MTV Raps ages ago.

He's truly a rap star. He only needs to show up somewhere and the crowd goes wild. Many rappers, although they may be good, haven't got a style unique to them. Snoop really does, his style, voice, everything. True, there was a period when his raps weren't so hot and he maybe took the pimpin' thing too far, but still yo, the man's a living legend. He was one piece of the puzzle called Death Row that really put the westcoast on the map worldwide. An' he's still here, doin' his thang, doin' dope records.

I first heard of Del The Funky Homosapien when:  I heard Deltron 3030's "Virus" track playing on a skateboard video, at my friend's house. I was like, "Damn, this guy's tight!"

Since then, I've been hooked on him, lol. ;D

Not one...

Ice Cube - First heard him on Straight Outta Compton but didn't really know who he was until my older brother bought Cube's first solo.

2Pac - First heard him on "Same Song" but didn't know he was part of Digital Underground. I could only recognize Humpty Hump from that group. First saw Pac when Yo! MTV Raps premiered "Brenda's Got A Baby".

Scarface - When I first heard "Mind Is Playing Tricks On Me".

Not one...but 3

Ice Cube {Straight outta Compton had this mean looking dude in the background who rapped on almost every track on the lp....but never got the recong that Eazy had or the mistiqe that the group had. But his shit was amazing....when "AmeriKKKaz most" came out it was over Ice Cube was "King of The Westcoast".....when the revelation's of Cube writting almost all of the hitz off of the N.W.A. lp...& Eazy-duz-it a Legend was made.}

2Pac {Same Song was already a heavily anticipated song...Cause I was a major fan of "Sex Packet's", so this feat was a tight surprise when I bought the Same song ep....The video was off the hook as well, had N.W.A. in it.
and a legend in the wing's.}

Scarface {Some homie at school told me that he had a tape that made "AmeriKKKaz most wanted" look tame....and he handed me "Grip it! on that other level" by a group outta 5th ward Texas called "The Geto Boy's"....and that album made my fucken jaw drop, the violence and macabre scenes discribed on that lp were off of the radar....
"Mind of a lunatic"
"Read these Nike's"
"Gangsta of love"
& a track called "Scarface" that had an mc who was incredible, and unlike anything I had ever heard before...This lp was later re-done and repackaged as the self titled lp "Geto Boy's" but yo, that content was hard as hell....I've yet hear anything that has shocked since then....I was blown-out.
-------------------------------------------------------

Me and the homie "WestcoastVeteran" have the exact same favorites.....that's tight.

Good taste homie

The slow devolpement of a 'Pac fan. I heard Same Song before and never thought much of it. 'Pac I thought was just another Digital Underground artist, so I was like whatever, listened to the song, it was cool. Then later a few years later, I heard I Get Around, which I hear 'Pac again, seeing his CD 2Pacalypes around, but never hearing, and not hearing it on radio, as in the I.E. it's hard getting Power on a little radio. So to hear I Get Around on 99.1 was like, wow, who's this. It said 2Pac, but I recognized the Underground, so I was like hells yeah. Then saw Keep Your Head Up, and that made me pay attention to 'Pac as a legit artist, as I was feeling the song. Picked up Above the Rim on tape, and heard Pain, and that was it, I became a huge 'Pac fan, as he made me feel his life. Keep Your Head Up was like Bill Clinton, I feel your pain, Pain was like this is my pain now, and I felt it 'cause I felt to same. Snoop was still my favorite for a while, until Me Against the World came out, then it was all 'Pac.

LL Cool J is hard as HELL! Battle anybody, I don't care who you TELL! Etc etc.

My all time microphone hero, as I said here before. I bought a cassette of Bigger and Deffer when I was about 12 and my jaw dropped when I heard the opening track. As far as I'm concerned, BAD, Walking With A Panther, Mama Said and 14 Shots are all classics.
