Bush Approval Increases to 57%, Highest Rating in a Year
Iraqi elections likely cause of higher approval rating
GALLUP NEWS SERVICE
PRINCETON, NJ -- A new CNN/USA Today/Gallup survey shows that President George W. Bush's approval rating has increased to 57%, up from 51% three weeks ago. The approval increase appears to be related to the recent Iraqi elections, which the poll shows went better than most Americans expected. In general, the public is more positive now than it was before the elections about the way Bush has handled the situation in Iraq, as well as how the war is faring for the United States. At the same time, the poll shows little change in Bush's job approval rating on the economy or on Social Security.
The poll, conducted Feb. 4-6, shows that Bush's overall approval rating is the highest it has been in over a year. In fact, his approval rating has not exceeded 55% since a Jan. 9-11, 2004, poll, when 59% of Americans indicated their approval of the way Bush was handling the presidency. In the wake of the Democratic primaries and caucuses that followed, along with troubles in Iraq (such as the Abu Ghraib prison scandal), Bush's rating dropped as low as 46% (in May) and then fluctuated around 50% during the rest of the year.

Plus the Bushism of the Week:
Question: How is the new plan is going to fix the problem (with social security)?
THE PRESIDENT: Because the -- all which is on the table begins to address the big cost drivers. For example, how benefits are calculate, for example, is on the table; whether or not benefits rise based upon wage increases or price increases. There's a series of parts of the formula that are being considered. And when you couple that, those different cost drivers, affecting those -- changing those with personal accounts, the idea is to get what has been promised more likely to be -- or closer delivered to what has been promised.
Does that make any sense to you? It's kind of muddled. Look, there's a series of things that cause the -- like, for example, benefits are calculated based upon the increase of wages, as opposed to the increase of prices. Some have suggested that we calculate -- the benefits will rise based upon inflation, as opposed to wage increases. There is a reform that would help solve the red if that were put into effect. In other words, how fast benefits grow, how fast the promised benefits grow, if those -- if that growth is affected, it will help on the red.
Okay, better? I'll keep working on it.

True, but as his e-career has evolved, youd hope to see some originality. You can sample Tech, Englewood, but please gave me a shout out, some credits, some points of the thread publishing.

hahahahaahahhahahaa ok... first of all your original post was stupid and immature..... approval ratings swing up and down, so why you specifically called me out on this thread is beyond me.. lol but ironically it appears as if the numbers you cited were wrong...
A new Gallup Poll, conducted Feb. 7-10, finds President George W. Bush's job approval rating has dropped to 49%, slightly below the levels measured in three January polls, and well below the 57% measured in Gallup's Feb. 4-6 poll that followed the State of the Union address. Furthermore, the president's approval rating on handling the economy has dropped below where it was in January, suggesting that the current focus on the new budget and his Social Security reform plan may be negatively affecting the president's public support.
http://gallup.com/poll/content/login.aspx?ci=14893
The original poll you cited surveyed:
37% Republican
28% Democratic
35% Independent
Of course other polls show the numbers are even worse for Bush:
* Adults were evenly divided on Bush’s job performance in January, but now 54 percent disapprove and 45 percent approve.
* The number who think the country is headed down the wrong track increased from 51 percent to 58 percent in the past month.
