Title: Condolezza Rice Caught Lying About Al-Queda
Post by: Ant on February 10, 2005, 09:34:29 PM
On March 22, 2004 Condi Rice wrote a editorial for the Washington Post addressing complaints that the Bush Administration ignored warnings about Al-Queda.  Quoting her directly:

"During the transition, President-elect Bush's national security team was briefed on the Clinton administration's efforts to deal with al Qaeda. The seriousness of the threat was well understood by the president and his national security principals. In response to my request for a presidential initiative, the counterterrorism team, which we had held over from the Clinton administration, suggested several ideas, some of which had been around since 1998 but had not been adopted. No al Qaeda plan was turned over to the new administration."

Of course recently declassified documents prove otherwise:

This memo was written January 25, 2001 one.  In it Richard Clarke calls a high level meeting to discuss the Al-Queda threat... by the very second sentence he already tells her "We urgently need a Principals level review of the Al-Queda Network."

Scrolling to the bottom of the memo, you find that two unreleased documents were attached:

Tab A:  December 2000 Paper - Strategy for Eliminating the Threat of the Jihadist Network of Al-Queda

Tab B:  September 1998 Paper - Pol-Mil Plan for Al-Queda

_____

Again the Administration is caught in a blatant lie.

*Anticipates the sound of republicans running away from this post*
