Rapper's Relative Dead After Standoff
(Aug. 13) -- An armed man who barricaded himself in a Las Vegas apartment after allegedly wounding a police officer is dead.
Police are investigating whether the wound was self-inflicted, because officers say they didn't fire any shots into the apartment.
Police say the suspect is Jermaine Ernest Fuller, a brother-in-law of rap singer Snoop Dogg.
The officer was grazed on the side of the head by one of at least two shots fired while he was grappling with Fuller. The officer is in serious condition at University Medical Center but is expected to recover.
A police spokesman says the suspected gunman also may have been wounded in the struggle about 11:20 p.m. on Reno Avenue near Maryland Parkway and Tropicana Avenue.
The gunman is accused of running to a nearby apartment complex and breaking into a unit where he took a man hostage. But police say the hostage escaped by diving out a first-floor window.
