Don't get me wrong, I like most of the stuff I've heard from the guy(got about 4-5 of his albums), but over time I've read or heard people mention him as a big trend setter and stuff along those lines but haven't really seen it myself. I realise he's much bigger over there than here(Australia) so you guys would be exposed to him a lot more. Also another thing is the praise he gets for his flow, but to me he sounds like he's off beat/key on some tracks? is it because his flow is fairly originally that he gets the praise he does for it?
-
Jiggaman is just on his victory lap right now, he's just fucking shit up..
Dear Summer & Diamonds remix just proved his greatness, even the Jay-Z haters wishing for a new album now, though he needed the little break because of over-exposure.
-
just listen to Hovi Baby...his flow is :o
-
Hes alright on some of the tracks but i dont see it either.
-
dunno, sometimes he comes with some shit thatīs out of this world to only come with some average/wack shit on the next joint. but Jay has been blessed with some of the best production on earth too coz without that i donīt think people would even mention in the same breath as some of the greats. and his subject matter is extremely limited and thatīs prolly the biggest reason why i canīt put him in my top 10 coz heīs been talkin about the exact same shit on every album for 10 years.
-
i love that Wishin on a star but i don't have it...anyone know from what album it is? or maybe you can hook it up
-
Its on his greatest hits cd Chapter One for sure but i dont know what real album its on.
My fav Jay track is definatly Cant Knock The Hustle
-
def the most overrated figure in hiphop atm. he's just good at choosing producers/beats. but not a uber-mc.
-
Everytime I listen to either the Blueprint or the Black Album I just like it more and more.
-
he's off the hook lyrically, his flow is un-matchable, the only reason he's hated on is coz of his topics, he doesnt rap deep, but never the less he still has tight rhymes.
-

exactly
even some tight tunes off blueprint 2 as well
-
yo i dont see it either man. I aint got 1 album by dude. He dont really do anything for me. Im not saying he's wack, its just his music dont really move me in no kinda way. You know, the west keeps me gangsta, the bay puts me in a real pimpish mood, the south a get me crunk, and j z just gets me umm. He got flows though, cant take that from em. I just think his cocky flow tends to influence allot of his listeners.

Blueprint album is deep. It shows a bigger picture.
It's not just about average streethustlin', it's about hustlin' on all aspects of life.
"Put me anywhere in god's green earth, I triple my worth"
-
Same thing with Nas, people are just stupid.

Jay Z :monkey_piss: ....fuckin sucks!
Is like Nas said "Eminem killed you on your own shit".
And the best song he has is the one with the Dogg Pound "change the game" remix
-
Dudes got talent, he's just not my personal favorite.
-
Anyone who doesnt like JayZ should watch Fade to Black.
-

You are such a fucking idiot.
Jay Z > The Notorious BIG
Hip Hop's greatest ever.
Hov is the fucking boss of bosses.
-
^ thats a bold and stupid statemnt
but jay z is dope as shit, for 1, yes, he has a great ear for music, unlike nas, his lyrics are dope, not amazing, got good lines, but his flow is dope, he can go with just about any beat

You're an idiot. How the fuck is Jay hip hop's greatest when Nas is better than him??? And btw, BIG shits on Jay-z IMO.
-
lol at people saying Jay aint that good when they dont even have any of his albums...
UWA, seen you on some other forums I think, anyways, Jay is an innovator, look at Best of Both Worlds and MTV Unplugged, dude tries different things, and always drops quality...

The most overrated rapper ever
-
I personally dont see the big deal with him either. I have three of his albums (Reasonable Doubt, Blueprint, Black Album), and while he's good for a listen here and there, he doesnt do much for me overall. Definatly one of the most overrated mc's ever IMO.

I agree.
-
MTV Unplugged album is great.
BOBW is dope too.
Reasonable Doubt i probably my fav Jigga album though.
-
Jigga>your favourite rapper
Jay could go track 4 track with any artist you can name....hes got witty wordplay...immaculate flow an jus plain cockiness....i mean when he started out the guy could not get signed..ANYWHERE....him an dame hustled dey way into the industry an built one of the biggest hip hop labels in history..dropped nine albums...always in the chart without losing the streets....even losing to nas didnt hurt him....
-
Jigga>your favourite rapper
well G Rap is my favorite rapper and on his worst day he would shit on Jay easily.
-

Well, you see why they made him president of Def Jam right? Because he's the greatest marketing genius in hip-hop history. Jay-Z was never anything more than an average rapper with no personality, and because of his marketing savvy, he's fooled people into believing that he's some kind of legend.
-
Jay-Z was never anything more than an average rapper with no personality.
Oh man,i remember when he went on the Howard Stern show,he didn't want to talk about annything,it was the worst interview in the history of the show,He din't want to talk about beyonce, what a fag,the interview didn't even aired on the E! show.
-
ou know, the west keeps me gangsta, the bay puts me in a real pimpish mood
I thought the bay was in reference to the San Francisco bay area, in the west...
wait a minute....was everybody here listening to smash mouth back in the early nineties and didnt really catch on to hip hop till later? yall are some uneducated muthafuckas.
Streets iz Watchin
Reasonable Doubt
In My Lifetime
If those arent some of the most comprehensive detailed expressions of the street mentality then I dont think yall are qualified to rate a real vet

jay-z no personality ? he has the most charisma in the game... and how can you blame him for not talkin about his personal life ?

In some aspects he's overrated, but on the whole, he's one of the most well rounded rappers in history. Charisma, flow, lyrical talent...he's got everything, just that at times he comes off as lyrically lazy. Reasonable Doubt is a hip hop classic. His last record is one of the best releases in the last several years, imo. Plus, he wrote 'Still D.R.E.' Dude deserves his props.
-
Jay Z is more then just a rapper, had the vision to found Roca-Fella-Records and also Roca-Fella clothes line, this way even if the muzik industry changes dramatically and he loses his edge in the rap world he'll still have a cool multi-million coming in every year. Respect to him. + back in the day he was a dope rapper no one can deny that, cleaver with words and phrazes. Jigga Man. ohhh and his got one of the best lookin women in the world on his shoulder!!
