If you're looking for something non-hip hop, try Since I've Been Loving You by Led Zeppelin, it's a very powerful song. Live is even better.

Love that song, probably my favorite Zep song. If you do want some non hip-hop songs, Stairway to Heaven by Led Zeppelin and Wish You Were Here by Pink Floyd.

....there´s a shitload of non-hiphop of course, since Lincoln mentioned it. like eg

Eric Clapton (Derek & The Dominos) - Layla (great song, simple in a way but very powerful in effect)

Randy Newman - Sail Away

Peter Gabriel - Games Without Frontiers

Bob Dylan - Visions Of Johanna, Like A Rolling Stone, Stuck Inside Of Mobile With The Memphis Blues Again, Man In The Long Black Coat, Desolation Row, Tombstone Blues, etc....you could go on forever with Dylan

Bruce Springsteen - The River, Born In The USA (yes, that is actually a quite thoughtful song), Candy´s Room and countless others

R.E.M. - Find The River

Nirvana - Frances Farmer Will Have Her Revenge On Seattle, Heart Shaped Box, All Apologies.....also simple in a way, but far from stupid

...............
