Krayzie Bone – Thug Mentality

Disc 1

1. Thug invasion…Intro
2. Heated heavy…A fast paced track produced by Krayzie Bone himself.  Rapid fire verses.  4.5/5
3. Paper…A song that is similar to ‘If I could teach the world’ as far as displaying a message.  I’m not really feeling this song.  Weak lyrics and weak chorus.  It’s a skipper.  2.5/5
4. The messenger…interlude
5. Payback iz a bitch…An average sounding beat, but some good lyrics.  3.5/5
6. Thugline…This is really a Relay song featuring Krayzie Bone instead of the other way around.  It’s below par.  2/5
7. Dummy man skit
8. Dummy man…A nice track about slangin’ fake dope.  Nice loop.  4/5
9. Thugz all ova da world…A song featuring Treach.  Krayzie does not sound right over this beat.  2.5/5
10.   Street people…Good smooth beat and a classic Krayzie Bone flow.  3.5/5
11.   Pimpz, thugz, hustlaz, & gangstaz…Laidback beat featuring Layzie Bone, Eightball & MJG.  Tight verses by all artists.  4/5
12.   Da bullshit…interlude
13.   Drama…A deep song about growing up.  He slows up the flow on the track, but it sounds good.  4.5/5
14.   World war…A decent flow over a decent beat.  3/5
15.   The war iz on…Strange collaboration with Kurupt and Snoop Dogg.  Quality production and Krayzie flows.  4/5
16.   When I die…Production is good and Krayzie’s verse is raw.  3.5/5
17.   Thug alwayz…The only track on the album produced by Uneek and featuring Bone Thugs.  The beat is weird and doesn’t seem to fit their style.  3/5
18.   Thug mentality…Track has a softer-radio friendly feel to it.  A decently produced song.  3.5/5

Disc 2

1. Murda won’t stop…interlude
2. Where my thugs at…Tight beat.  The flow is slowed way down.  There is a sense of anger in his voice and it makes the song sound better.  3.5/5
3. Smokin’ budda…Laidback weed-smokin’ song.  Krayzie sings instead of raps.  4/5
4. Kneight Rieduz (Here we come)…I don’t like the flow of the Knieght Rieduz or the production on this song.  2/5
5. Try me…Slow beat and a laiback flow.  Good chorus.  3.5/5
6. Theze dayz…A slower pace for Krayzie.  Featuring Thugline artists who really don’t flow that well.  3/5
7. Silent warrior…The beat changes up nicely at the chorus.  A good flow by Krayzie.  3.5/5
8. Shoot the club up…A different beat for Krayzie to be rapping to, but it sounds pretty good.  3.5/5
9. Silence…Probably the only song here with that traditional Bone Thugs dark feel.  Featuring the Graveyard Shift.  Tight lyrics and dope production.  5/5
10.   Look at you now…interlude
11.   Won’t ez up tonight…Nicely produced track, good hook.  Flowin’ ass lyrics.  4/5
12.   Sad song…This could have been a great song if it had been more than 1:30 long.  Good production and dope lyrics.  3.5/5
13.   I still believe…Decent R&B type track featuring Mariah Carey.  Not a great track, but not a bad one either.  3/5
14.   We starvin’…A sample from the Young & the Restless theme song.  Surprisingly it sounds good with the addition of E-40 and Gangsta Boo’s vocals.  3/5
15.   Smoke & burn…Hardly featuring Krayzie, but it’s a nice laidback track.  It has a Hawaiian feel to it.  3.5/5
16.   Power…An average Krayzie flow featuring Thug Queen.  Weak hook.  3/5
17.   That’s the way…Here’s the classic Krayzie flow we’ve been waiting to hear.  The only thing is the production is not that great.  3.5/5
18.   Armageddon…Good beat and the Mo Thugs members flow well.  Rapid Krayzie verse.  3.5/5
19.   Murda mo…Easily the best track on the album.  The sampled beat fits Krayzie’s harmonizing lyrics perfectly.  Enough said.  5/5
20.   Revolution…The two best tracks were saved until the very end.  This features the Marley brothers, which mixes great with Krayzie’s vocals.  Smooth production.  4.5/5

OVERALL…4/5

A good first attempt at a solo LP.  Too many guest artists and not enough of Krayzie though.  This should have been a one CD album.  Also, he has reduced the tempo of his flow on many songs and the production of the majority of the album doesn’t really fit his style.  Decent replay value, but some songs get old real fast.

6.5/10?? Damn, I thought this was a superb album. Not a classic, but its as diverse as you can get and Krayzie ripped almost every track. His second solo, Thug On Da Line, is horrible.

Id give TM 1999 an 8-8.5/10

Yeah, I seemed a bit harsh.  Maybe I shoulda said overall 7 or 7.5.  I love Krayzie Bone's verses in Bone's first 3 albums, especially E. 1999.  I just didn't like his flowing on here.  But like y'all say, everybody's got different opinions!  Peace!

Nice review and i probably agree, Krayzie Bone CAN NOT hold an album down on his own and thats why i can't give this album any higher than 4 mics.

WAY too many guest appearances, if this album was a single cd it would have been classic but not in its present form.
