Ghostface--"Bulletproof Wallets"
« on: November 20, 2001, 06:41:42 PM »
Ive had it a week now, so its time for me to drop the review :)

1. Intro--Starts off with Rae and Ghost talking, mostly about the industry and how alot of people slept on what the Wu did for hip hop.  No rating.

2. Maxine--Classic Wu Banga right here. RZA drops a sharp guitar rhythm and it turns out nice. It sounds like a Supreme Clientele type beat. Rae and Ghost once again show nice chemistry like on the CL album, with a nice story about a drug dealer.  5/5

3. Flowers--This was apparantly remixed, with a semi-commercial beat. Method Man steals the show on this one though Rae and Ghost still come nice. Ive heard the original is much better though........4/5

4. Never Be The Same Again--The first single. This is kind of a laidback song [as much of the album is], about a girl that fucked Ghost over. Carl Thomas does the chorus, and the song encompasses both rnb and hiphop elements. Ive seen some people hate on this song, but I like it. 4.5/5

5. Superb skit--Just a skit about Ghost in his young days. Nothing special. No rating.

6. Theodore--Another Supreme Clientele like track, produced by Mathematics. Sounds like another drug dealer story type track.....There are some guest appearances on here from the Wu family [Trife and Twiz], but they dont produce anything incredible. 3.5/5

7. Ghost Showers--Kind of a metaphoric song about how Ghost is everywhere and he runs the streets. Features a female sung chorus. The beat has kind of a commercial feel to it, it sounds like something that you could easily here on the radio. Dont really know how to describe this one. 4/5

8. Strawberry--A hot joint!! Sounds like a Cuban Linx/Liquid Swords type beat rolled into one. A song about fuckin' basically, lol. Not the greatest song ever, but it has a nice sound to it. It is kinda on the short side though....4/5

9. The Forest--An Alchemist produced joint, and a nice one at that. Ghost tells a story about the industry and streets using the names of cartoon characters. It reminds me of Ice Cube's song "Once Upon A Time In The Projects", though this song is more complex. Good track overall. 4/5

10. The Juks--I dont like this song. Alchemist drops an aight beat, but the chorus sucks, and the song is just a "flossing" commerical type song.....2/5 I alwayz skip this one.

11. Walking Through The Darkness--RZA produced this joint, and it sounds like another Supreme Clientele type of song. I have NO idea what Ghost is talking about in this song, but I like it, nevertheless.....4/5

12. Jealousy Skit--Pretty self-explanatory. No rating.

13. The Hilton--Another classic Wu song!! Rae and Ghost rip this one up, and it reminds of "The MGM" off of Wu Forever. However, this song isnt RZA produced. Carlos Brody produced it. A nice story telling track about a set-up at, yea, you guessed it, The Hilton. Classic Wu shit right here...5/5

14. ???--I dont know the name of this track, cuz the tracklist is VERY fucked up on this album. But its pretty short, unfortuantly, cuz is was BANGIN while it lasted............3.5/5......woulda got a 5 had it been longer.

15. Love Session--Another laidback song. Pretty much self explanatory, about a deep relationship with a woman.....Ghost comes nice lyrically, and spits some deep lyrics instead of bitchslapping women on wax on this one.....4.5/5

16. Street Chemistry--The song ends with a dark song......reminds me of a Liquid Swords type beat, but not quite as dark, cuz of the female vocal samples. Just a raw street song.......4/5

Overall this is a good album. Ill weigh the pro's and cons. The album contains little filler, and with the exception of "The Juks", there are NO bad songs. However, there are only two GREAT songs: Maxine and The Hilton. This is a more laidback album than Ironman or Supreme Clientele, but its not quite as strong overall. If you're Ghostface fan, by all means get it, but dont expect another Ironman, or even SC. Still a good album though, nonetheless............I give it a 4/5........thanx for reading.

Here is the right tracklist motherfuckers:

01 Maxine [The Sun isn't on the album]
02 Flowers [This version got another beat]
04 Never Be The Same Again [not Forest as listed on the back]
06 Theodore [not Flowers]
07 Ghost Showers [correct]
08 Strawberry [not Maxine]
09 The Forest [without the "My Wallos" hook, listed as Walking Through The Darkness]
10 Pop Your Collar
11 Walking Through The Darkness
12 Jealousy [skit]
13 Hilton [not Juks]
14 [not Hilton]
15 Detroit Heavenly
16 Street Chemistry [not Strawberry]

Just got it from the Wu-fansite.

Hellrazor made it quicker than me, but when I receive the CD I'll post my thoughts too.

I dont really care if it's more laidback than SC or not, Im just sure that its some dope shit.

To ensure the tracklist, I'll just wait til www.wulyricz.com post the lyrics, they always know the tracklistings. All that fucked-up listing (Liquid Swords, Ironman, SC) I got it from there.

On first listen this CD sounds better than Supreme Clientele.  I haven't gotten through the whole CD yet, but I feel the beats sound a lot more crisp and perfected than some of those on SC, but as I said, I haven't gotten through the whole CD and there may be some beats and songs that don't seem like they fit.  So far I'd give this 4.5/5, it could get worse though, but with it being Ghost and him being the lyricist he is I doubt it could drop due to him, maybe some of the songs won't fit.

I just thought I'd add my initial thoughts to the CD since I don't have time to write my own reviews.

Yo let me spit something about this CD. This album is brilliant and it doesn’t sell shit and that’s sad. Maybe this thread will turn some heads to it as I revitalize it.

01 – Intro – just like in both Raekwon’s albums. Nice one – 3,0
02 – Maxine f/Rae – Some powerful shit right here, just like the tracks No.2 in Cuban Linx and Ironman albums. A speedy storytelling that takes yo breath away. – 4,0
03 – Flowers f/Rae, Meth & Superb of American Cream Team – I love this RZA beat, kinda playful but sick as ffuck. And you know they rhyme well, too. – 4,0
04 - Never Be The Same Again w/Carl Thomas & Rae – Well, the song is pop, the drums are soft as a young girl’s ass, but it’s sooo smooth you wont be disappointed. Ghost manages to address the lyrics to girls and stay grimy. – 4,0
05 – interlude – A very funny one with Ghost awfully singin. A LMFAO type shit. 3,0
06 – Theodore f/Trife & Twiz – The kinda beat I  love for Ghost, reminds me of Ghost Deini, Fish, Box In Hand, Malcolm etc. That n***a Trife is really good on the mic! – 4,5
07 – Ghost Showers – A clone of Cherchez Laghost. Nice one. If they don’t release it as a single, the CD will totally sink. – 4,0
08 – Strawberry – f/Killah Sin, w/ RZA & Allah Mathematics. – A fuckin tite azz beat yall, really raw. Ghost spits some shit similar to Wildflower, totally misogynistic. RZA & Mathematics (the man that designed the Wu-logo and my personal fav wu-producer after RZA) talk funny about Ghost bustin a nut. – 4,5
09 – The Forest f/Raekwon – archaic Alchemist beat, Ghost turns cartoon characters into crackheads and prostistutes. – 4,0
10 – The Juks f/ Superb & Trife – Both guests do really good battling, some raw street stuff for yall. Ghost is magic once again. Alchemist designed an interesting beat. – 4,0
11 – Walking Thru The Darkness (RMX) f/ Tekitha – This waas originally from Ghost Dog sdtrk, but nofuckinbody bought it, so RZA reused it. Ghost turned a sleepy song into a hyped-up one. You no, he’s always fire. Tekitha’s vocals are silky. – 4,0
12 – Jealousy – A nice skit with hazardous vocal loop.- 3,5
13 – The Hilton f/Raekwon – Fuck, the dynamic duo once again spits some carefully designed movie script stuff. Art of storytelling at its finest. - 4,5
14 – Ice - A microscopic song with beat similar to intros of JayZ’s and Nas’s albums. – 4,0
15 – Love Session f/Ruff Endz – A laidback song, just a good one. Unnecessary trip to the ladies’ world. – 3,5
16 – Street Chemistry – f/ Prodical & Trife – A wonderful beat , RZA followed the traditions of Heaven & Hell and Nutmeg. Listen and climax. – 4,5

I wont talk much, I’ll just say that if this CD was released in 1995, we’d all be worshippin it 10 years from now. A true WuTang banger from first to last second. No medium songs, only superb stuff. Ghost is God. 8,5 outta 10.
