congrats to 50 cent but he still hasn't REALLY beaten snoops first weeks sales. Not every store had soundscan back when doggystyle came out and it still sold 803,000 in it's first week which is FUCKEN UNVELIEVABLE, but yes he did do it. jsut read the following document and u will see that even though it may say 50 sold more than doggystyle first week, he reallly most likely didn't.

N'Sync and Eminem have both benefited from Soundscan by becoming the number one and two biggest selling first week sales in history.  N'Sync holds the record at 2.4 million copies and Eminem at 1.76 million.  Because these sales received so much media attention, it also became a way of promoting the album.  Also, this helps artist know how many units are sold so they can determine what they should get paid.
With something that sounds so good as Soundscan may seem, there will always be a few problems.  Not all retail stores are not linked to the Soundscan database.  What about the neighborhood retailers that cannot afford or do not sell enough copies, or do not need Soundscan to count their sales.  They also may not have all the resources as a chain store.  There are quite a few artist that may get the RIAA certification because of the shipments of units, but what about sales figures?  Many products have seen strong sales at local shops in many different cities.  How will Soundscan give an accurate number of copies sold if they miss these stores? It is a problem that may hurt the credibility of many products.

Two albums that have missed are Dr. Dre's "Chronic" and Snoop Doggy Dogg's debut "Doggystyle".  These are two albums that experienced huge success in the "mom and pop" establishments.  It seems like every rap fan owns these albums, but they are certified at 3 million(Chronic) and 5 million(Doggystyle), low for two blockbuster albums in the era they were released. It is rumored that Dr. Dre has sold over 8 million copies of Chronic. Snoop Dogg was the highest selling rap album for the first week( before Eminem), but only the Soundscan stores were counted in the 800,000 copies counted.  This was without the stores without Soundscan.  Being released in 1993, there were many stores that have Soundscan now that did not back then.

Congrats to 50, but i don't really give a fuck about how many units someone sells. In 1993 when Snoop dropped doggystyle hiphop wasn't that mainstream like it is now. If you look at quality of albums 50 cent's is by far the worst out of Tupac,B.I.G, and Snoop. 50 cent was just all hype towards his album. 5O is a gifted emcee, but don't compare his album to them guys.

I still can't fathom how he managed to sell 852.000 in his first week... I knew his hype was enormous but shit... ??? that number is unbelivable. I would have expected something like 200-300K... I guess the Eminem affiliation automatically added 500K to his sales.
