Why in churches is Jesus portrayed as a White-skinned man?
« on: October 21, 2003, 08:34:32 PM »
Just curious. I went to a church a few months ago for my good friend's funeral and noticed this. I was just thinking about this, why is he portrayed as White skin when it's a documented historical fact Jesus had Brown skin? Just curious, thanks for any help.

Most hip-hop is now keyboard driven, because the majority of hip-hop workstations have loops and patches that enable somebody with marginal skills to put tracks together,...

Unfortunately, most hip-hop artists gravitated towards the path of least resistance by relying on these pre-set patches. As a result, electric guitar and real musicians became devalued, and a lot of hip-hop now sounds the same.

because DiVinci(i think it was him?) was paid to paint him as a white man.

Because all the painters that painted him during the renaissance were white, and painted Jesus as they percieved him, white people percieve Jesus as white just as black people percieve Jesus as black.  Jesus was a man, his skin color is unimportant.

So why not change the image of Jesus to be more in line to what the Bible says. After all, his just a man, his skin color is not important.

Thanks for helping me clear that up.

No. Its a historically proven fact that Jesus had Brown skin.

Who cares? My painting of Jesus hanging in my living room isn't any of your business.  If you want a brown jesus, make a brown Jesus.  If you think Jesus was really named Leroy, makes a Leroy picture.  If you think Jesus had tentecles growing out of his nose, make a picture like that.  It's none of your buisness what I think Jesus looks like, and It's none of my business what you think he looks like.  What are you trying to accomplish?  Why complain? Just buy the brown Jesus picture instead of the white Jesus picture.  LOL Kids.  Get a grip, man, the reason "the man" is holding you down is because you believe in him.

LOL... now that was cleaver. No actually what people think Jesus looks like has a lot to do with what you think about race in you life. I thought Jesus was white for a long time. Therefore, that made white seem closer to God. I was not privilage to know the truth for a long time. I think in a time where we are always looking for the right interpration of the Bible, and are always rewriting it, we should also do the same for Jesus, and how we look at him too, and try to find the truth, not a pipe dream.

Have you guys ever thought about why Middle Eastern people fall under the White category on applicatiions (college applications for example) ?
Because if they made a seperate category for Middle Eastern people then that would create a difference between Middle Eastern and White people (which there obviously is a difference), and it would establish the fact that Jesus was NOT WHITE. Yes, people, he was Middle Eastern, but the White people in this country don't want that distinction to be made in this case. Only when we go there for oil and phony wars, then there is a difference between us and them. They then become the axis of evil, terrorists, wrong-doers, etc.
Plus, according to some of you, Jesus is a terrorist, since that's some of your guys' perception of Middle Eastern people. LMAO... I can't believe nobody has ever realized that "hey Middle Eastern people don't look white"... people ignore shit like this when the issue is tied to something greater such as Jesus in this case

Just some food for thought :-*

LOL. What a stupid topic.

I don't care what skin color Jesus had. I'd much rather pay attention to the great things he did that argue about something petty like this.

lol there is no scientific fact of what jesus looked like ......all we know is that he was a jew and probably looked like many of the hebrews of his day........and even if he was white he probably looked like Don Johnson or some tanned white dude cuz he was always out in the sun.  But in all honesty Jesus , according to the discovery channel and many scientists they worked with on this one easter special, he would've had a more round head shaggy ass beard and a mad jew fro.......the jesus we see in paintings is painted to be Italian .....but in actuality Jesus probably looked like bob dylan.

Exactly. You can't see him as being different from the people he belonged too.
