Tech N9ne – Absolute Power

1. Intro
2. The industry is punks…Loud, bangin’ beat.  It almost has a hint of DJ Paul & Juicy J production.  Tech lays down three tight ass verses.  Nice hook.  4/5
3. Here comes Tecca Nina…The beat gets your attention right away, which sounds straight up like a Battlecat beat.  This fits his flow very nicely.  You can’t help but bob your head to this one.  Erica Hugunin sounds great on the hook.  5/5
4. Imma tell…Very unique track.  The chorus sounds like young boy with a British accent, then it gets switched up and played backwards.  Nina changes his flow up back and forth on each line, with the first line being delivered slow and then the follow up spit in rapid fire.  5/5
5. Slacker…The production sounds very similar to the remix of 2Pac’s “Friends”.  N9ne has some dope flows, quoting famous lines from Biggie, 2Pac, and Young Bleed.  The three verses give some great examples of a slacker or mooch.  4.5/5
6. Keep on keepin’ on…Tech spits some tight rhymes over the great production.  He’s especially dope on the second verse when he’s talking about Vell Bakarday.  4/5
7. Gunz will bust…Great head-noddin’ production.  Features Young Gunz, which do a good job on the mic, but Tech really fires it up with the final verse.  Good hook.  4/5
8. Bianca’s and Beatrice’s…Strange production and an even stranger hook.  Those two names are used as synonyms for women in general.  Kutt appears on the second verse, which is tight.  4/5
9. Diamond Joe’s interlude
10.   Slither…Smooth, laidback production.  Great display of Tech N9ne’s lyricism.  He crafts every line in each verse perfectly.  The subject of the song is a stripper, but it’s not exactly a “fuck song”.  Great hook.  5/5
11.   Disturbance interlude
12.   Trapped in a psycho’s body…The track fades nicely from the eerie noises to the beat.  N9ne uses his vocals in several different ways from just regular, an effect that sounds like he’s on the phone, and an effect that makes it sound like he’s under water.  4/5
13.   T9X…Another unique and different track.  The beat is very slow and Tech N9ne’s own voice is slowed down to match it.  He speaks of doing drugs.  A+ hook.  5/5
14.   She devil…From the beginning, it seems as though the production is going to be better than it is.  It is still decent however.  Tech in only on the first verse and D-12 finish up the song.  3.5/5
15.   Worst enemy…Tech spits a well-told tale in rapid fire delivery about a friend who crossed him—at least it seems that way until you realize he’s talking about his penis.  The effects on his vocals are very fitting to the track.  5/5
16.   Signing off interlude
17.   Absolute power…Production is loud and rock-influenced.  Great verses and tight delivery.  Great chorus.  4/5
18.   Yada, yada, yada…A song devoted to dissing Tech N9ne’s ex-producer Don Juan.  Well-crafted lyrics make this a powerful and entertaining diss.  The chorus is amazing, especially the way the high-pitched squealing comes on.  5/5
19.   Constantly dirty…An inspirational track which features RDV’s.  The chorus by Tech is great.  The group has got some dope lyrics.  4/5
20.   I’m a playa…Production is tight and lyrics are exceptional.  I hate this chorus though and the music change that is associated with it.  Still it doesn’t overshadow the job Tech does on the mic.  4/5

OVERALL…4.75/5

The loss of Don Juan’s production has seemed to raise Tech N9ne to the next level.  His lyrics are well-thought of and nicely describe the situation he is referring to.  His production is top-notch and lyrics fit perfectly with each track.  I like the way he throws a reference to a famous line of a song here and there throughout the album, but only with his own twist to it.  Subject manner is well-rounded and entertaining.  This album is very close to perfection.

track 12 - trapped in a psycho's body......the chorus is actually a female singer by the name of Laticia Naylor, who unfortunatly died in a car crash about two weeks after recording this track......

the actual lyrics are "I'm a psycho baby, it's about to drive me crazy"...but for some reason they changed it and flipped it backwards for the album, i personally liked the advanced version better....

i've had this album for monthes and i still am not sick of it, everybody who listens to hip hop should own a copy of Absolute Power....

i'll post a review on the dvd in a second......

I think I'm the only person who wouldn't give that a 5/5.  Everybody I know loves that song because of the hook, and that's the reason I don't like it.  I just feel silly listening to the song when the chorus comes on.

word. ima tell, and industry is punks is my shit. the latter is one of the best flows ive ever heard
"One day Alice came to a fork in the road and saw a Cheshire cat in a tree. "Which road do I take?" she asked. "Where do you want to go?" was his response. "I don't know," Alice answered. "Then," said the cat, "it doesn't matter."
