Would you call it racism?
« on: May 08, 2004, 04:34:51 AM »
Tonite, me and my homeboys went to The Boogie, which is an 18+ club in Anaheim for those that don't know. I hadn't been since last summer, but I heard that there have been a few fights and I think it was a shooting since then. It seems like most of the incidents happen between blacks and mexicans. The security is usually always trippin on us both for that reason, if not more reasons. So tonite, we had to park valet, and when we were drivin in, the cops/flashlights stopped us and told us they had to search the car. I was like "I am not tryin to be hard headed or anything, but isn't it illegal for you to search my car with no warrant?" he was like "well if you don't want us to search it, we won't, but you won't get in" and I was like man fuggit, I drove 35 min. to Anaheim and I definitely don't have any alcohol or drugs or anything illegal, so they can go ahead. It was me and three homeboys, all black, in a 98 corolla, we didn't look suspicious but I figured they searched everybody. I was still kinda mad....but this is what pissed me off. I saw about seven cars drive in right after me, all whites....not a siiiiiiiingle one of them was searched or asked to get out the car. This pissed me off a lot, seein these cars drive by and the cops obviously targeted us, even though I know we didn't even look like gang bangers. Even worst, when I got inside, I talked to three different groups of blacks who said they were all searched as well, while they saw whites and asians drive straight through.

But even though it was racist to me, I still thought about it....true, it's horrible that I have to suffer because of the blacks that do act up. But damn...I've been to all types of parties and clubs, and most of the times, blacks are the ones who act up. I have seen whites get wild when they are drunk, but the shootings, big fights, people yellin loud and ignorant, etc. etc. is usually the blacks. Now it's too much to get into where the source of this problem comes from, but do you think that situations like these are handled right? I don't trip on them searchin the cars because I definitely don't wanna get shot, but even if the whites usually aren't the ones shootin the clubs up, it's still unfair to just target blacks and mexicans specifially. How do you feel about that?

well, let's just go by statistics. ( make them up cause Im not informed that good but youll get the idea anyway)

13% of the american population is black
70% is white

even though, blacks commit by far more crimes than whites do.
according to that, the police has better odds to get someone who brakes the law controlling blacks than they had if they controlled blacks and whites.

it would definitly be racism if blacks wont be more likely to start up shit, that's definit. but since it unfortunately aint like that, I wont consider it racism but going after the ppl who are more suspicious. and blacks are in general more likely to do start up shit than whites by statistics, you cant say that aint the case.
so, I wont consider it racism. of course it's fucked up that whites with 2 pounds of weed can pass through like it aint nothin and sober blacks like you cant, but you have to blame that on your own kind too.
btw, I always thought it's ironic when rappers rap 2 verses in a song, one about how cool crimes they commit and how violent they are, and one about how racist the police is. you know what I mean?
Cause I don't care where I belong no more
What we share or not I will ignore
And I won't waste my time fitting in
Cause I don't think contrast is a sin
No, it's not a sin

well there you go.  I wouldn't neccesarily call it racsim, more of a stereotype.

Put it this way:  If 9 out of the last 10 disturbances at the club were caused by black people, and you were the club owner telling the cops what to do, would you keep an eye on the black people or the white people?  Its an obvious answer.

same goes with terrorists and airplanes.  People say its racist when muslim people get searched and profiled- duh!  thats cause there hasn't been a white person who took over an airplane and crashed it into a building.

It's prejudiced acting, but as you all said, due to my experience it's actually kind of reasonable. But IMO they should at least sporadically search whites, so they can't just rely on not bein searched and sneak everything from weed to heaters in the club. And they should not act like they're workin on the principle of you bringin sum illegal shit just cause ure black

Fuck that. You should've just told them they couldn't search the car and go park somewhere else. They had no right searching your car. If you guys didn't do anything, they were just profiling. Damn right it's racist. Fuck them.

Did you ask why they weren't searching others?

It was nowhere to park out there, only the valet and out there they tow like a mafugga. Yeah they were profiling....I didn't see that they weren't searchin anybody else until I was in line, and I was just talkin real loud about em and some of the security heard me but they didn't say anything.

I never been to the Boogie, heard it's a lot of Cholos there. Not my scene. But, if that was the case I would've turned around. Hop on the 91 and go to La Mirage in Artesia.

I see what you are sayin. But at the same time, it is pretty obvious to see which black dudes are gonna do what. The crowd I kick it with and the cars we drive look like dudes who aren't squares, but definitely not gangbangers. I can understand them targetin those who are obviously gangbangers....if it was a all black 82 monte carlo with a loud soundsystem, and it was four dudes with corn rows or bald heads, with white tees and blue hats, and they were smokin when they drove in, then yeah those are the ones who'll start somethin. It is the same with the whites. You can tell a punk rocker or a biker from a square azz weenie who wouldn't fight if his life depended on it. Even though we don't look like the soft hollywood pretty boys, we definitely don't look like gangbangers.

One of the downsides to being the member of a race that acts up more than others.

I'm a male, and as such couldn't get into clubs until I was 21, even though the women were able to get in at 18.  That's not sexist, it's just that young men are more apt to act out and fuck things up for everybody.

etc. etc. life ain't fair.  I'm sure if a bunch of white guys rolled up in a car that looked suspicious, it'd get searched too (not that yours looked suspicious).  I'll bet they didn't search all the black cars, either.

Homie, all Minorities look like gang bangers to Cops. It's like this one time I was in Pasadena. Me, my brother and 3 homies. Not one of us look like a cholo. We were in a 99 Civic, not exactly a Cholo-type of car. Cops harrassed us saying we were suspected for attempting to steal cars. That wasn't some justified shit, because we were in my brothers car. He showed them registration and everything. Muthafuckas just wanted to stress us.

yeah I know what your sayin.  I'm a white male, so I really have never been racially stereotyped, so I really don't know what its like.  but I realize that it happens, and I don't think its fair.    Thats just how our society works, and as long as there is different races, there is gonna be racism.  Especially when you got cops involved.  You know, what you should have done, is said fuck that, not let them search your car, and not even go there.  You just supported a place that racially targeted you.  The biggest way you can make changes is with your money.

Yup. If you would've turned away, that would've been 4 people they lost at the entrance. And, I'm sure, if you got the word out, a lot more people wouldn't go to that spot.

I don't think so.....it's more like, they will treat us all like gangbangers but cops can definitely tell who looks like they bang. Most cops know a lot more than I would ever think they would about gangs, hoods, drugs, hot spots, prostitution rinks, and all else. The black cops definitely know who looks like they bang and who doesn't. I don't get harassed too much by cops because I don't have a G-Ride, which are those old cars that most gangbangers drive, and I don't have a luxury car or anything nice that they will mess with me for. But they definitely know what gangbangers look like...they just enjoy treatin us all the same.
