Jesus, this album has unbelievable replay value, not played an album of this ilk so much since the mid 90s with "whats the story" - lots of new UK acts are putting out fantastic music, shame all the albums arent as solid throughout

class act and release that for one lived up to the hype and although i have had that demo for months thanks to

so many classic lines, one-liners, melodies, phrases...its got the works :)

thank you Arctic Monkeys for a quality release :)

Superb album, front to back.

You're right about the one-liners... love that line in 'Fake Tales...': "The band was fucking wank and I'm not having a nice time"

I've been getting into a lot more of this type of stuff in the past couple of years... it's just refreshing to put something different on if you've been listening to hip-hop all day. The other ones I keep bumping at the moment are the Hard-Fi and Ordinary Boys albums - more commercial, but just fun music...
"I fornicate with porn stars, sluts and strippers.
Well - only on the Internet but what's the difference?"

That just isn't true. Do you really think they would have played Saturday Night Live and have had the highest US independent guitar debut ever if they weren't getting at least some good reviews over there? They are selling out all the shows in America and definetely have a large fan base in comparision with the amount of time they have been out.

Even Noel Gallagher has praised them. That is like a blessing from God.

Some new Monkeys related news for everyone as well. They have an EP out around April/May time:

Four new songs on it. Not sure how different Cigarette Smoker Fiona will be from the demo. Departure Lounge is a song they have been playing at US gigs, it is a tune. The lads are wasting no time in between releases, might as well strike while the iron is hot.

Weeks and months it was
I was that amazed and there she stays

Well the first guy critising goes on to say:

"How about approaching the group's debut album for what it is: a promising first effort with infectiously energetic playing and some deft songwriting. The hyper single "I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor" has an unshakable hook; the more melodic "Mardy Bum" showcases the young band's facility with dynamics, and the change-of-pace slow corker "Riot Van," detailing underage drinking and a run-in with the cops, boasts a winning sense of realism."

So he can't be that against it. And the next line is - "Better than the Beatles" could doom this deserving band before they get started here. How about: "Better than The Strokes?" - which indicates he probably has a problem with the hype more then anything.

And as for the guy at the Oakland Times, I assume he is refering to this gig in SF: http://www.contracostatimes.com/mld/cctimes/news/14096988.htm

Goodness gracious.

I liked the Hard Fi album at first, but it is easily worn out. Loses all appeal after a while. Hard To Beat is still an absolute tune.

That Babyshambles album is nice but Arcade Fire was the best album of last year.
