self scientific-change
« on: April 02, 2006, 12:09:36 PM »
Shocking the world with the debut from 2001, the amazing duel, Self Scientfic is back with their sophmore album.  Alot has changed for two since dropping their debut.  Firstly, Dj Khalil has joined the production crew at Aftermath records.  Secondly, they have started an indepent record label with Cypress Hill beat-maker Dj Muggs.  Sticking wiith the same formula Chace continues to spit his heart out and Dj Khalil provide dope beats/impressive scratches.
On the the title track, "change", the lyricist of the group, Chace, spits how the world needs to chamge.  At the end of the track, well respected throughout the hip-hop community Sway gives Self Scientific props.  On "tears"  Dj Khalil uses a very effective soul sample and Chace lights up the mic while spitting "blacks, latins/living in some critical conditions".  On their second single, "live n breathe"  Dj Khalil laces Chace with a tight sample, while Chace spits about a girl getting hit by her man and a rapper struggling to make it.  On "free will" Chace examines religion as he spits " am I wrong but in this life/sometimes you must do wrong/to make things right".   The highlight of the album is "what you need".  On this track Dj Khalil uses a effective samp[le which has drums that will cause sub woofers to go crazy.  The track is about clubbing and features Jelly Roll on the track.
The dynamic duel avoid the sophmore slump.  Current fans will not be dissapointed.  Outsiders will wish they heard of Self Scientific befor this album.  rating 4.5 outof 5
