its amazing in the day time

its all related to disk access.. database "writes" are slower when the server is busier (under load)
when its quiet things are a lot lot faster.

Alright, since the board is moving wretchedly slow, let's make something out of it...everyone count how many seconds it takes the page to load after you press post and post the number here...My last post took 49 seconds to post...Has someone cracked the minute mark? I'm wondering if people still use dial-up...it must take them months for their post to show up.

lol I'm on dialup I think the slowest I've hit is aroung 40 seconds to a minute nothing too drastic, I usually post and go to a different window anyway so I dont notice.

Ok i've  made a change...  problem is these things take a long time to sort.. i've been working on this for 3/4 days now..

as i'm getting it finer and finer things are running smoother.. i got it running beautifully in off-peak times.. now time to improve what i can during peak times

a word of caution.. even though it seems faster from now on i think we;re out of the busy patch so this time tomorrow will be the real test..

(and yeah it'll be a bit slower for 30 mins while the cache's are filled up etc.. if you've had errors loading the page over the weekend that went away and it went slow for a bit it was likely to have been me changing the settings...)
