"Free J-Dee" mix tape/compilation featuring Chuck D
« on: July 05, 2006, 02:04:51 AM »
Many people are aware of Da Sean “J-Dee” Cooper's work in Ice Cube's legendary rap project Da Lench Mob. What some may not be familiar with is that J-Dee is serving 29 years to life in a California prison cell for a crime he did not commit.

At the same time as events unfolded the night in question, Da Lench Mob's debut release, Guerillas in the Mist, had gained the attention of the federal government.  It eventually even became the subject of congressional hearings.  With a lack of physical evidence and fluctuating witness statements, it became those political words that the prosecution used against J-Dee to influence a weak case.  The prosecution issued a copy of his debut album to the foreman of the jury where he questioned whether or not this is the type of man that the jury would want on the streets.  Despite obvious connotations of jury tampering and prosecutorial misconduct, J-Dee has been denied a new trial and his conviction continues to stand.

To compound things, several years ago J-Dee’s former legal team made a technical error that brought his freedom campaign to a screeching halt.  They missed a deadline in filing his appeal.  The only legal strategy now is to prove to the courts that to deny J-Dee a new trial would be a miscarriage of justice.  Not an impossible thing to do if you look at the evidence.  But J-Dee needs your help.

“Free J-Dee” is a project being planned by supporters who are fed up with the biased system and are taking action to help make right this travesty of justice.  Whether your talent is Hip-Hop, Gangsta Rap, R & B, Jazz, Reggae or whatever…..we’re asking that you voice your support of J-Dee by allowing us to showcase your talent on what will be a heavily promoted project.

If you are a producer, a Spoken Verse Artist, supporter, or you just have a positive message to convey, use your creativity to contribute to this project…..we don’t want to put you in a box.

We’re keeping options open.  If response is as good as we anticipate, we may be putting out a double CD or even a follow-up project.  You will determine the success of this project and J-Dee’s efforts at gaining his long overdue freedom.

Collaborations are welcome, and if you need some help networking for a collab or you have any questions, please contact:
