Actually the reason these conservatives go crazy over hip hop is because white people are embracing it. Back in the day when hip hop was geared only towards Blacks you didn't see as many conservatives talking about it. Then in the late 80's when it became more and more popular they went crazy when white kids were buying The Chronic and such.

Indeed, that's true.  But conservatives never ask themselves - why is it that this is the case?  If white kids dig the gangster image as much as black/Latino kids, what does that say about them?

Even more important, conservatives never bother to mention the fact that WHITE gangster movies (i.e. "Angels With Dirty Faces", "The Godfather", "Goodfellas") have been huge influences upon hip-hop and are commonly referenced in rap songs.

I listen to rap music because I like the way it sounds. I like the beats and the lyrics. That doesn't mean I approve of the violence, the sex, the misogny, etc.

Fortunately I am an adult and I know the difference between right and wrong. So the music is just entertainment to me. But alot of kids are not so lucky. They are young and impressionable and might come from bad homes where they don't have alot of values and morals instilled in them. That is where hip hop becomes dangerous....because they might be raised by rap videos instead of a mom and dad. So they grow up thinking sex and violence are cool and that it is Ok to degrade women because that is what they see everyday on BET.

I don't know what your favorite rappers are (since you almost never post about music), but I've seen you talk about cats like Game and Xzibit before, which suggests to me that those are the kinds of rappers you listen to.  If you don't approve of violence and misogyny, you need to stop listening to Game and listen to something that isn't "undermining American values".  There is a such thing as Christian rap, ya know?  Not to mention plenty of other non-gangsta rappers.  You are still a hypocrite if you're listening to gangsta rap when it contradicts your values and you could be listening to something else.

See, you're still missing the point.  It ain't that it's not appropriate for kids; it's that you ain't supposed to be embracing that stuff cause you're a right-wing Christian fundamentalist.  Regardless of what they think about it hurting kids, good Christians are simply not supposed to be listening to gangsta rap, watching violent movies, or jerking off to porn.
