How do y'all feel about Psychology?
« on: September 14, 2006, 12:03:10 AM »
Long story short, I've been all over the place since I got outta high school, from radio and television to digital multimedia to business administration to construction management and I've never gotten anywhere with any of these categories because my mind is so stuck on money that I leap here and there....anyway, recently it's come to my attention that I've always loved reading people's minds and beat them to the punch to any situation or to help them out when it comes to issues, but for some reason I've always blocked of the choice of studying psychollogy because I never thought there would be too much money or career opportunities in it and it just seems girly. But I'd like to some how fuck with psychollogy and mix it in with marketing and blend em all in with the entertainment industry. Anyway....give me some feedback y'all....I really don't have no intelligent muthafucaz to ever talk to....my circle of people in my upbringing wouldn't even understand what I'm talking about....

psychology explains things a little more comfortably than religion, but at times feels like it's a replacement for spirituality

^^^dont confuse the poor lad!

I studied psych for 2 years, lost interest cus I generally cant stand science stuff. But I found it real interesting for awhile, it focuses on the individual, why the individual does this and that, whereas sociology focuses on why groups of people do this and that. If you got a degree in psychology you can get work homie, no worries! Be a quack, in advertising especially there is heaps of work for psychologists, the two go hand in hand, why do people buy this shit and not that, mostly all advertising you see has had work put in it by psychologists, etc

That's what I'm afraid of, I ain't trynna waste more years just to get tired of it. I get bored quick, I been gettin fast cash all my life, I'm pretty impatient. But I did figure it goes hand in hand with advertising and marketing. So the money should be real well if you hustle your way up I'm assuming. How hard is the courses? is it a type of degree that would wear you out because of so much work?

It is a science, so it is hard work, you really gotta be interested in it to be able to stick wit it through a degree. But it isnt as hard as say, law or medicine. But if you get a degree in psychology you can earn no worries.

But I think all courses can wear you out from too much work, Im doin law, right now I got a 4500 word essay due next week, I havent been doin shit lately so all the works piled up. But if you can pace yourself and take an interest in what you are studying then you should have no problems, just investigate psychology for yourself cus you can't have somebody tell you that you will like it, especially when your paying thousands to take the course.

What Psychology are we talking about?

-Western/Judeo/Christian psychology reduces man to a physical creature.  Viewing man as nothing more than food, clothing and shelter; and seperating man from his Creator.  Christianity see's a conflict between science and God, and thus making "theology" a seperate discipline and a force seperate from and independant of the physical and rational life of the human being which one may choose to believe or not.  They address the symptoms of the problems viewed as physical, and make futile attempts at masking the symptoms to the problem without ever identifying the root.  This is the kind of psychology that you will learn in your average college in America, it has little real benefit to the student, unless your objective is obtaining a piece of paper they call a "degree".

.......................

-Islamic psychology, on the other hand, is a holistic approach.  You can not seperate man from his Creator, or the creation (science) from the Creator.  Therefore this offers a holistic way of dealing with the mind, and it produced great thinkers like Jalladin Rumi who could break down the makeup of the mind, body and soul in relation to the Creator and the outside environment; long before Western psychology ever sprung into action.  As well as modern day thinkers such as Na'im Akbar who I have paraphrased here.

Any discussion of self-knowledge must contain these elements:

1.  Knowledge of the human nature or make up.

2.  Knowledge of the origions of one's self.

3.  Knowledge of nature, her patterns and the environment in which we live.  (This is the study of science and mathematics, and holds the key to understanding our own nature)

4.  Knowledge of God.

...if you want to know more ask any questions and I'll post more later

"I didn't do nothing but make people money and I didn't leave nobody high and dry.  Any album (on death row) people are going to check for.  But it's time for Dre to worry about Dre.  I'm focused on the new Snoop Doggs, not like that but you know what I mean."

Sounds like what you really need to do, is get a degree in Marketingcommunications (where they will also teach you some psychology, albeit very limited). A degree in Psychology would barely teach you what you seem to be out for.
