Your tru feelin on Return of tha Regulator
« on: December 21, 2001, 05:46:03 PM »
I have seen a lot of mixed reviews on tha board about his album,  what does every1 think of it,  i think its a sold album,  3.5-4/5,  all tha song are good,  but tha thing is,  no 1 song stands out,  there are no big hits on here,  that is my biggest problem wit it

To me it's the modern illmatic... illmatic never was a pop sensation, but years later it's claimed classic... no songs on illmatic stand out because every song is equally great... that's how I see Warren...

4.75/5

I dont know why I dont give it 5... I listen to it straight through... all 60 minutes of it

When Illmatic release... no one claimed it so great like they do now... other albums like The Chronic and Doggystyle were claimed instant masterpeices... only years later did people start to recognize the great artistic expression Illmatic had... I think that's how this album is going to be percieved.... slept on, but I think years later people will see how it stands out...

Nas's first big hit was If I Ruled The World... on his album It Was Written.... he needed Lauryn to make his music appear... then all of sudden people start to recognize Illmatic

i feel what peeps are saying with a "modern" illmatic but y'all are wrong.. illmatic was called a classic at the time... it got 5 mics in the source... everyone on the east was loving it... maybe it was slept on by west heads i dont know.

to me Return Of The Regulator is the illmatic of beats... if we have to use the illmatic comparison.  nothing's fucking with Warren's beats, just like nothing was fucking with the rhymes of illmatic.

I HAVE NONTHING AGAINST WARREN BUT IN MY OPION HIS ALBUM IS BUTT.  THE ONLY TWO SONGS ON THERE "ARE LOOKIN AT ME"
"AND SASSY WAYS" HIS FLOWS ARE TRASH EVEN ON THOSE SONGS BUT HOOKS ARE GOOD.  I THOUGHT HIS ALBUM WAS GOING TO BE GOOD BUT IS BUTT.  WARREN DOES NOT HAVE FLOWS AND HE DOES NOT HAVE GUEST ON HIS ALBUM TO GO OVER HIS BEATS.  I HEAR A LOT ABOUT HOW TIGHT HIS BEATS ARE BUT HIS BEATS ARE JUST O.K.
REALLY WHICH PRODUCER IS HE BETTER THAN.  DRE?NO BATTLECAT? NO FRED WRECK? NO ALCHEMIST? HELL NO!!!! SO REALLY WARREN SHOULD JUST QUIT IT.

I'll admit that when I first heard this album, I thought it was butt too. But I kept listenin', and now I see how his style has changed for the better. It's like his first album, but much more advanced in production....the only thing I'm disagreein' with y'all on is how y'all don't like Warren's flow. I enjoy his flow, and his lyrics.
