Discussion: How much does Snoop owe Master P?
« on: December 08, 2006, 01:34:54 AM »
'Still A G Thang' came on my Mp3 player on random on the way to work this morning, and it got me thinking about Snoop's time at No Limit.

I remember how crazy it was opening The Source and seeing an ad for 'The Game Is To Be Sold...'. No Limit was already big at the time, but it seemed incredible that they would sign up Snoop. Plus it was only a few months after Snoop shouted out Master P in his Source interview after leaving Death Row - shows how fast P must have moved.

Snoop's first No Limit album might have not have been everyone's favourite, but there's no denying that Master P helped him release two strong albums in 'Top Dogg' and 'Last Meal'. Essentially, Master P saved his career in a sense - who else would have wanted to do a business deal with Suge to get him off Death Row?

Given all this, does anyone else find it strange that Snoop has barely ever reached out to Master P again? OK, P sucks as a rapper, but Snoop owes him a lot in my opinion. I've always found it odd that Snoop didn't help him out with a collabo on one of their albums given that P's rap career is barely alive now.

What does everyone think?

Actually I think Priority wanted to keep him on the label, kind of like what Game has right now with Geffen/Interscope. They still got him anyway with the whole No Limit deal. Master P has been on the low for a while though, but when people talk to Snoop about his label and how he got started in it, he will shout out P. I think he just used that situation to lay low for a while and do a couple of albums and soak up game on how to do his own thing.

One, I don't think Master P did a business 'Deal' with Suge to get Snoop off Death Row....Otherwise why would he be pissed at Snoop........Plus Im sure Snoop could've gone to a bunch of labels, 'cause he was already made from Doggystyle....

Two, Snoop has shouted out Master P in the past...on a numerous amount of accassions...you want Snoop to shout him out forever?

IMO Paid the cost...was a dope album...I mean it has some good tracks if you really listen to it....the thing that ruins it is all the No Limit soldiers of the time spoiling it....

Top Dogg still had P influence, but Snoop was developing his own sound and you can tell he had his own input into that record......

Last meal just was all Snoop Snoop and just finished his 3 album deal to no limit....

By the way, Im not hating on you or nothing, just my view on what you said..

I think P just bought out the rest of Snoop's contract. I know Suge was saying something like the next 4 or 5 albums we would be making money off of it but that came out to be not true.

Yeah, everyone has valid points. I guess I'm just surprised that the two seemed to cut ties so completely. I must have missed the shout-outs ;D

And Silkk J, I completely agree on The Game Is To be Sold...: I think it's a pretty good album. I just know people hated on it quite a bit. Personally I think Snoop dropped some dope shit on there - 'Hustle & Ball' was his most vicious track since Doggystle in my opinion.

^ you gotta be kiddin me...thats one of the worst songs ive heard in my life
"One day Alice came to a fork in the road and saw a Cheshire cat in a tree. "Which road do I take?" she asked. "Where do you want to go?" was his response. "I don't know," Alice answered. "Then," said the cat, "it doesn't matter."

No, I'm serious.

It was the first time since Doggystle that Snoop has rapped with any type of agression in his flow.

I remember hearing Snoop on Dogg Food and All Eyez On Me and thinking he'd fallen off in a huge way - his voice sounded so weak, there was no force behind his delivery like there was on The Chronic and Doggystyle. It was the same on Doggfather - nice beats, nice lyrics, but dude flowed like a girl.

'Hustle & ball' was the first time I thought 'woah, Snoop sounds hard on this track. It's the same way he ripped '10 Little Crips' off the new CD. there's an aggression there. I'm not saying it makes the song better neccessarily, but it makes all the difference with the delivery.

I remember when Snoop was on a talk show last year but i forget which one it was. He said Master P is still his homie but him being on Dancing With The Stars was fucked up.

From what I read around the time it happened.  Master P bought his contract out for 10 million.

Man you hit it right on the head with that one.  Snoop lost that sharp voice and aggression on those past albums...wouldn't say he got it back completely with this album but definitely on that song.  The same principles can apply to almost every rapper though...most you can tell lose they hunger in they voice and delivery.

By the way Mystikal outshined Snoop on that song.  Snoop pretty much was freestylin NL style on most of the album and it had that street appeal to it.

You talking about 'Tru Tank Doggs'? Fucking crazy track, the beat by KLC was astounding. Mystikal ripped it then Snoop came with this smooth but menacing flow... amazing song.
