Let's take the song "My Name Is".  Just for an example.  Okay, say Aftermath/Interscope, was nice enough to give Eminem all the publishing for that song, because they thought it would be big for a few months and it was.  And then 30 years later, it ends up getting played 24/7 on Oldies stations across the nation.  Then the record label is gonna be getting fucked for selling Eminem the publishing.

Like think of all those Elvis and Beatles songs on oldies stations.  How could a record label possibly pay royalties for those songs when they have been getting 100's of spins a day for decades!!!!!!!!!!!  They would go broke, right? WTF?

Nope, you can be on an aircraft carrier and never step foot inside a plane.  You might have to ride a plane to the airforce base initially, though.

Nah, the Radio Station makes money off songs, because people listen to their commercials, to hear the songs they play between commercials.  So the RADIO station plays royalties.  It's just like a tenth of a penny, or something, for each song played.  They keep track of every song they pay , and pay the royalties to the owners of the song, namely the people that produced it, and the people that wrote it.  So, Aftermath would get paid half the royalties for owning/producing/distributing/creating the song, and the songwriter, who owns the publishing would get the other half of the royalties.  Royalties are split up big time, though, and lots of deals are cut between artists and companies... like maybe they've got  a deal, that for that song, Dre gets 30 percent, em gets 30 percent, aftermath (Iovine) gets 20 percent, and mel man (who did the beat) gets 20 percent.  So there's different deals for each song... that's why they credit different people for each song, and credit the producer's publishing companies, etc.
