Fixing the "Doggfather" Lp
« on: February 07, 2007, 05:44:53 PM »
Ok, this album for right and/or wrong gets discussed heavily. I wanted fellow members to share their ideas on this. If you were in charge, what would you change to  make it better.... Production wise... promotion.etc.  I would have removed all those worthless skits(except for the intro & outro) and add the following tracks Midnight Love, Street Life along with other tracks.  Here's my ideal tracklisting:

1.Intro
2.DoggFather
3.Hit Rocks
4.Groupie
5.You Thought
6.Midnight Love
7.Up Jump Tha Boogie
8.Vapors
9.Change Gone Come
10.Doggyland
11.Upside ya head
12.Me and My Doggs
13.Gold Rush
14.Downtown Assassins
15.Street Life
16.Outro

Gotti......Xl

All I know is that I put that album on the other day for the first time in ages and was shocked at how tight it is. I guess I didn't appreciate it when it came out because I was expecting another Doggystyle. But looking back that album is dope as hell and I have been banging it the past few days non stop.

co-sign, I bought it the day it came out and was so dissapointed, but this is definitely Snoop's second best album, the only thing wrong with this album was the mixing on some of these tracks could be better, that's where Dre was really missed, but damn this is one of my favorite albums of all time

WTF???  You removed OJ Wake UP?  Thats the best song on there

Also, How the fuck u gonna remove Blueberry and Snoops upside ya head?  Also 2 of the best songs on there

I would remove the skits except for the intro and I would remove Freestyle conversation

I would add Midnight Love and Eastside Party

To Doggfather I would have added "Hit Rocks," "Street life" and maybe "Intro 2 the Indo" only. Maybe remove six minutes and that track with Soopafly and Too $hort (can't stand that song)....BUT, if Snoop had the opportunity to release a third LP on Death Row I would have wanted it to look like:

May I
C-Walkin
Head Doctor (original LT Hutton solo version)
County Blues
I will Survive
Eastside Party
O.G. (from Daz's album)
Too High
Gangsta Walk
Keep it Real
Pay for Pussy (Big Pimpin interlude) (from Game is to be sold album)
Freaky Tales (from originators album)
Eastside (aka Death Row Eastside)
Midnight Luv
Let me Hit somethin'
Every Single Day (from Dogg Pound 2002)
Change Gon Come

And possibly adding that "I just wanna be a DPG" song from LBC Crew comp or a more Snoop'd/g-funked out version of Nate's "Never leave me alone" (BTW make that CD above in that order it's really bangin'. Using 21st Jumpstreet in the place of track 3 works well too)

To me Sixx min is nothing special and I just can't stand "You Thought" dont know why but for me it's the biggest skip track on that album. But I sure wouldnt think twice about switching Sixx min for "Street life" or "Hit Rocks" that's for sure.

Doggfather was actually the first Snoop album I bought, which was probably for the better. While the album was plenty funky thanks to DJ Pooh, I knew when I was 12 the album needed something else. It seemed like it was rushed to take advantage of 2pac's death. Most of the tracks were pretty good though.
