Is it possible to load a PASSWORD PROTECTED Windows XP computer?

I heard somewhere if you enter in SAFE MODE, then it bypasses the "Login/password screen" at startup?? but can you then close the PC and it still asks for the old password next time its used?

thnx

you can put the hard disk into another computer, without using something like l0phtcrack to break or reset the password, that's about it
