Ya Boy Is Rising To The Top (Exclusive Raptalk Interview)

From San Francisco To Los Angeles, Ya Boy has got the streets and the internet buzzing! Everybody is talking about this young new artist and the release of his new mixtape "Chapter 1 The Rise" hosted by DJ Skee. Raptalk caught up with Ya Boy recently so we can present him to you all so you can see for yourselves what the hype is all about!

Styles: What's up everybody? I am sitting here with Ya Boy. He’s over here at the restaurant scarfing out. While he’s doing that we are just going to talk to him for a little bit. Ya Boy has his new Mixtape out, Chapter 1 The Rise that’s out now. Ya Boy, why don’t you say whats up to everybody?

Ya Boy: What’s goin’ on everybody? What’s poppin’?

Styles: So lets talk about this new Mixtape, Chapter 1 The Rise.

Ya Boy: I just felt like, you know, nowadays people are saying that Hip Hop is dead, I wanted to show everybody that Hip Hop is not dead. It’s just changed forms. This is Chapter 1 The Rise. This is the first step of my career. I put my all into this, I gave you all an album. It’s not just a mixtape, it’s an album. It’s a street album and it’s a classic. The first chapter of the Book of “me”.

Styles: So Precise is your own music group label?

Ya Boy: Yeah, that’s my label, Precise Music Group…

Styles: Earlier in 2006, some people thought that you were with The Black Wall Street. What was the whole story with that?

Ya Boy: Well, my Uncle Phat Rat, he’s an executive over at Black Wall Street. He helped start that whole movement. I’ve been telling them for years to "put me on, put me on" and then finally my buzz got big and my music was fire, so he came and brought me to the Black Wall Street. He got me in with The Game, and he put his arm around me, showed me the ropes of the game. The Game is like a big brother to me. Game basically just put me on that display so the world can recognize me. He put me on, so that’s how that went. I’ve got my own movement though, Precise Music, but Black Wall Street is family.

Styles: How come you never officially joined The Black Wall Street?

Ya Boy: No reason, really, it’s just that I’ve always been my own man. I’ve just got my own movement and Game has got his own movement, but you know, he’s still like a big brother to me.

Styles: You are from the Bay area, San Francisco to be exact, yet you are out here in L.A. What made you decide to come out to L.A.?

Ya Boy: I mean this is just where most of my business is conducted. I still have a spot in the Bay too. The Bay is my home, but I conduct most of my business out here. Not only that but I moved out here to Malibu man, right there on the beach, a 4 Million Dollar home. I’d rather be there than anywhere (laughs).

Styles: How the hell did you get into Malibu?

Ya Boy: My rapping skills got me to Malibu. I ain’t even dropped an album yet. I am right there on the beach looking at Dolphins in the morning, fucking Porn stars, ya know what I’m saying?

Styles: Kickin’ it with Britney and them, huh? (laughs)

Ya Boy: (laughs) I’m kickin’ it by myself. Naw, but the studios and the labels are out here. A lot of things go on in L.A. This is where I need to be right now at this point in my career. I might be somewhere else next year.

Styles: So you are out in Malibu. I’ve seen some pics with you and Kevin Federline. You cool with that dude or what?

Ya Boy: When I first had moved to Malibu, Kevin and Britney stayed down the street from me. My uncle was cool with them and he introduced me. You know, he was a cool dude. The paparazzi was on his ass everywhere he went, so when I guess I first met him they was there. But you know, Kevin was a cool dude. There’s a lot of stars in Malibu.

Styles: You being from the Bay, I’ve been wanting to ask this question. Sometimes it seems that The Bay and L.A. are two “separate” entities. What can we do to bring the two places closer? They should be working with each other a lot more than what they currently do.

Ya Boy: The “real” is going to bring them together. There are real niggas everywhere, and real recognizes real. So you know if you a real nigga it don’t matter if you are from…. China, ya know? You are going to be cool with real folks as long as they are real like you. All of that separation shit, that’s some non-sense shit. I get along with everybody out here, all the real niggas at least. It’s like home over here too. So that’s what it is, real recognizes real.

Styles: If more artists took your example, they could make a lot more money.

Ya Boy: Exactly! Exactly! I fit in everywhere I go. But I just keep doing me. I don’t have no gimmicks or nothing. I just keep doing me. I’m accepted or they are going to check it, and they are not going to check it, so that’s what it is.

Styles: So you dropped this Mixtape. What’s next?

Ya Boy: After this mixtape, I am going to try to get my label established. Try to get a deal for my label, Precise Music. Start on a new mixtape. Keep cutting album songs. Just keep that buzz going and I am hot like fire in the streets. I am going to keep this fire going. Keep it going all over, we are going to take this shit over.

Styles: Now that you bring up your buzz, I heard recently that you were the #1 Myspace Unsigned Hip Hop Artist?

Ya Boy: Number 1 on Myspace, unsigned, myspace.com/yaboy check it out….

Styles: Damn, and this is all without a radio single and no radio buzz?

Ya Boy: Yup, just word of mouth man, word of mouth. All based on the street buzz. So they made me number 1 on the Net. I am number 1 on the streets and on the Net.

Styles: What’s up with the label situation then? With such a buzz going on there’s got to be people knocking on your door?

Ya Boy: Yeah, they are knocking right now, but they’ve got to come with the right numbers though. I’ll be letting people know when I do sign with a Major, but as far as right now Precise Music Group is a Major, you know what I’m saying? Now if any of them want to come with a Slash? A Precise Music Group/ Question Mark, come with the Millions, we’ll holla. We’ll do it ourselves if we got to, that’s what we are doing right now and they see it, but they better come now.

Styles: You eluded to the "Hip Hop is/is not dead" statement at the beginning of our interview. Let’s go back to that. Elaborate on your feelings?

Ya Boy: I feel Hip Hop is cool right now for me. They are opening the doors for me right now so I am loving it. I am going to come in and go hard on the paint. I am loving how Hip Hop is right now, I don’t think its dead. Especially since my heart is still pumpin’, Hip Hop is still alive. I’m loving it right now. When you hear a statement like “Hip Hop Is Dead” I just feel that’s just another statement for people to say to “look cool”. One person says “Hip Hop Is Dead” and now everybody is saying it. Hell no, Hip Hop can never die. It ain’t dead. So I don’t even think about that.

Styles: You wearing the West Coast flag, what’s your feelings about the West?

Ya Boy: We are on the rise. It’s a lot of young hungry niggas like myself that’s coming up. I feel like we are definitely making a comeback. The West Coast is here, and I am going to lead it for all of the young niggas. Ya Boy, Google me…. (laughs).

I want to tell everybody to support Chapter 1 The Rise. This is the first step of a new era in Hip Hop. If you don’t got it, get it! That’s needs to be your Bible from now on. YaBoy Music.com or myspace.com/yaboy , one of the realest sites on the Net, and keep your eyes opened for the Precise Movement, you heard it first, Raptalk.net, holla!
