3/Young Buck/Buck the World – Just know that radio had little to do with the 141,083 copies scanned as the core fans already committed their $12-15 bucks months ago regardless of the current single. People invest in people not product…unless you’re a hit making machine like Beyonce or Ludacris, but only few can do that with consistency. While everybody’s focusing on the potential strife between Buck and 50 the real jewel in the Hot 97 interview was 50 mentioning some sort of deal with You Tube. These type of deals and NOT RECORD SALES will be bread winner for artists that make the correct impact, not on the streets but within the online community.
4/Mims/Music Is My Savior – With so much emphasis on the hit record the artist development side takes a beaten which results in
R.I.M.S – Ringtones Is My Salary. 77,596 in the first week. He’s lucky to get even this much but credit to the label and his team for putting on a pretty good visibility campaign in the last 6 weeks.
5/Akon/Konvicted – When you’re at a -3 drop 20 weeks in you know your sitting pretty. With no tabloid drama surrounding him the only emphasis becomes the music and the highest plateau is the purchasing of the album. 1,050 albums shy of the 2x million mark
10/Jennifer Lopez/Como Ama Una – If you want to stick around and have a career you have to keep reinventing yourself. The Bronx native takes the cue, brings it back to her boriqua roots and scoops up 48,411 new customers.
13/Redman/Red Gone Wild – At this point its not about how much you sell but how much the label has to spend and if the artist and his camp are willing to go out and make it happen on their own. The Funk Doctor knows his lane and is realistic about the current state of affairs in the business. 44, 564 loyalists holds the Brick City Mayor down.
14/Lil Flip/I Need Mine – The real question is if Flip was totally independent and was able to ride off of his brand how much would he have sold? The doors to total independence and freedom are right around the bend. Don’t be scared, take the leap! 43,447 first week.
18/Fergie/Dutchess – 35,404 this week but the bigger story is how Alanis Morissette, without any “machine” hype smashes Fergie down on a parody You Tube video. She’s making fun of Fergie and at the same time exposing Middle America’s backlash on the wanton image of hip hop. 2.5 million views in 3 days…if you already have an existing brand do you really need a label that will shell you out 93 cents per album when the Internet allows you by pass all the middle men and deal directly with the consumer?
19/Musiq Soulchild/Luvanmusiq – You can never count nobody out in this business, remember that. Atlantic looks good on the artist swap as the Philly homie takes in 35,152 this week 238,733 total in 3 weeks. Never give up
21/Lloyd/Street Love – Ten years ago this project would have been platinum in 6 weeks but that was before people had access. The industry was built off of the consumer having a lack of access and that’s gone now. Don’t cry dry your eye.33,220 this week 233,384 total.
24/Rich Boy/Rich Boy – Everything in mainstream hip hop nowadays point to the production/catchy hook/songwriting/performer, in that order. But yet the product is marketed off of the MC, go figure. 31,778 this week, 192,744.
25/Robin Thicke/Evolution of Robin Thicke – Exactly half a year later and the son of a sitcom dude sits pretty at position number 25. Sad that many of your favorite rappers won’t last in the Top 200 after 10 weeks much less 25. This of course is mostly due to artistic lack of value. 31,175 scans this week, 883,829 total.
32/Prodigy/Return of the Mac – It feels right to you because there’s no pressure to go platinum or get 65 million in radio audience figures. Hip Hop is about the feel, that certain texture the old suits could never get because they don’t know what it feels like to bum rush the club door. 1988 is here again, get used to it. 27,209 first week.
39/Macy Gray/Big – Funny how time has a way of taking you off that high horse. 22,893 first week.
49/Notorious B.I.G./Greatest Hits – Damn not even Frank White can get you a Gold plaque nowadays. 15,548 this week with 178,702 total in 4 weeks.
57/Ciara/Evolution – Another platinum plaque on the wall for Zomba as Ciara leaves the Crunk Era in the dust. When you have nobody else in your lane and total promo saturation you just may do some numbers in this I Pod Era. It shows when a artist has proper management.14,222 this week, 1,086,593 in 17 weeks. Barry Weiss still spending that Backstreet, N Sync, Usher, UGK, E-40, Too Short money. Advantage Barry.
64/Crime Mob/Hated on Mostly – It’s over and out, regardless what the radio spins may say. People buy albums based on what their friends recommend not because of 5k radio spins. All that gets you is another case R.I.M.S…now rock your hips to that. How much does the artist make off of ringtones after the cell carrier and label gorge it out? Oh I thought so. 13,091 this week, 35,269 total.
71/Devin The Dude/Waitin To Inhale – The numbers don’t matter because he has what most rappers in this game can only wish for and that CREDIBILITY. If you have that you can make a living spiting rap bars and playing with girl groupies for a long time. If you don’t your just a one hit wonder nobody will remember until they see your footnotes on Music Choice. 12,105 in its 2nd week.
77/Tha Dogg Pound/Dogg Chit – The West Coast vets ride into the sunset doing them. 11,837 Koch style. At this point its all about show money and getting 5k to drop 16 bars on the new jacks coming up in Compton and Watts trying to take Game’s spot.
87/Insane Clown Posse/Tempest – The -68 second week drop means the core audience has picked it up and its time to pack it in and head back to Tha D. 10,537 this week, 44,038 total.
98/Stephen Marley/Mind Control – 9,527 this week. Nuff respect
105/Queen Ivy/Sentimiento – Reggaeton what happened? The core is still there but the honeymoon with the mainstream is over and out. 9,373 first week.
108/Diddy/Press Play – He probably made more money off the Pro-active commercials than this project. 8,501 this week 592,393 in 24 weeks.
125/John Legend/Once Again – The quietest platinum projects I’ve seen. Many in the hood may not like him much but while you cop bootlegs of your favorite artist of Fordam Rd and bitch about how wack the music is nowadays, his fan base go into WalMart, by his album legit and be about their business. 7,326 this week with 1,014,115 in 23 weeks.
130/Unk/Beatn Down Yo Block – Show money/ASCAP money/record sale money in that order. Thanks to Unk, Andre 3000 is in good shape to make his hip hop return. 6,899 this week with 120,276 on the totals.
137/Mary J Blige/Breakthrough – 67 weeks on the charts and currently is outselling Nas and Hova. Bow to Queen. 6,558 new customers take a puff of that Yonkers stuff. 3 million coming up.
142/Nas/Hip Hop Is Dead – The statement was bigger than the album. That gets you longevity but not big sales. 6,472 this week 695,659.
152/Fantasia/Fantasia – Her facial features is bigger than her music at this point. 335,647 after 16 weeks
160/Game/Doctor’s Advocate – Hip Hop has become a shameless blood sport but who am I to complain? …899,238 in 20 weeks.
163/Snoop Dogg/Blue Carpet Treatment – When Snoop went from G to Pimp back to G that transition gave him at least 5 more dog years. His career numbers speak for themselves. 835,629 in 19 weeks.
170/Jay Z/Kingdom Come – In theory one may say the older hip hop crowd that grew up buying CD’s prior to Napster would purchase this album in droves. Only problem is that crowd spent the last decade going into debt and now have no disposable income to “waste” on hip hop music. Their kids? Two words for you…Lil…Weezy.
174/El-P/I’ll Sleep When You’re Dead – Its hard to make a living on the underground circuit UNLESS you have business savvy people in your circle that know how to help develop your brand and penetrate beyond the traditional boundaries. 16,425 in 2 weeks.
189/Eminem/Curtain Call – Who the hell is still buying this album? I’m convinced it’s probably meth users. 2,713,610 in 69 weeks.
200/Jim Jones/Hustler’s P.O.M.E – You only sell this amount on Koch if you first build a core audience and constantly find innovative ways to appease them while ignoring everybody outside the circle. Dip Set started this prior to the I Pod Era so the only thing left was to make a hit record, which Jones did but Consequence did not. 370,203 in 21 weeks

Damn, Snoop basically caught Game in sales. Time for a new single for Game. Dogg Pound numbers are not good. Alot of people I talked to did not know it was out. Hopefully they can get on 106 with Snoop or something to help sales out a little bit.

hitsdailydouble said it was 22,000

Urban Connects get's there #'s directly from SoundScan reports. hitsdailydouble provide there own estimates and calculations. That's why they are always a little off.
