I rather hear Dre work with westcoast cats while still makin' new, fresh, groundbreakin' music. That could really bring the West back again, everyone will relate the West to that new music-style (whatever it might be) but that's probably never happening like Michael Jackson turnin' black again.

I know Detox (if it ever drops) is gonna be dope, i just hope it introduces a new sound to the game, cause change won't really be a bad thing with everyone rappin' about the same ol' thing and producing the same old beats.

However, how much protential for making "fresh, groundbreaking" music does the west coast really have these days? I wouldn't know - I haven't seen the potential. And how are you expecting a Dr. Dre album to make a change about "everyone rappin' about the same ol' thing"?

Dr. Dre set the standards for new (popular, mainstream as well as underground) music with the release of his first 2 albums. Back in '92 he introduced G-Funk to the world, which brought a whole new sound to hiphop (listen to some 80's records for example and notice the difference) and got mad spins on the radio, many producers and rappers based their style on that whole gangstarap genre over G-Funk beats.

In 1999 with the release of Dre's 2001, he made a new sound, which got heavily used by many other cats as well (for example listen to Southern records around 2000) got developped by others, but Dre did set the standard for a lot of new, fresh material back in 1999. As far as rappin' goes with Dre, since most of his lyrics is ghostwritten anyways, it wasn't anything new.

What i see nowadays is a game which is stagnated, it doesn't move on anymore but sticks to same old scripts and formula's, just to get money. Nobody is darin' to take any risk of making something new, and those who do get no exposure at all. My hopes are aimed at Dre, maybe he can come up with anything new and fresh that at least gets some others to make something new too (wether it's based on Dre's album or not, i don't care, anything better then right now).

And with Dre using a orchestra for makin' beats for Detox and his possible storyline on his album, with everyone playing a sort of role, just like a movie, it at least has some potential to be new and fresh you know. But then again, we're talkin' about Dre who flips the script for his album so many times i wouldn't be surprised if nothing from what i said above comes true. But you have to admit that this concept for an album is different then the most of the game is doin' right now, so at least it gives us some hope for change.

Haha, i can imagine that. I'm still hopin' it wil ldroop, gotta keep faith in the rappers huh, just like Crooked, still hopin' he will finally drop his debut (after 7 years  :o ) this year as well. I'm always in for some quality music.

Besides that, i'm curious too about what way Eminem is goin' for his new (and possible last) album. On the Re-Up it felt like he was kinda testing different styles (for example compare Jimmy Crack Corn with No Apologies, which are both dope songs by the way) i'm wondering what he will come up with for his next album.

True, I lost my faith in Crook a while ago though lol. Can't disagree with being open to quality music.

I thought the Re-Up was a step in best direction for Em. I like that you mentioned Jimmy Crack Corn and No Apologies because they are both great songs, but so different. He really had some great lines on this album, which he didn't do on the Encore. His voice still sounded a bit strange, especially on the 2nd track, but  don't mind it as much as long as he's not talking stupid shit. Jimmy Crack Corn was kinda silly, but Em was flipping some serious verbal gymnastics on that. His flow is nuts, and I'm hoping he uses that formula on the next album, instead of making a super silly record again.

Real talk, but i hope he does something unexpected, like doin' another style which nobody has ever heard, something that will make all the haters secretly order his album, you know.  :D

Maybe it's 2pac's first appearance after faking his death in 96'.

no.. in all seriousness, I think it's probably going to be a non-rap artist.  Someone like Micheal Jackson or Stevie Wonder, or Whitney Houston, something like that.

It's debatable whether he invented that or not. I must admit personally I know too little of G-Funk to tell, but I heard how a similar style of G-Funk had been around in the late 80s and how Dre twisted it to make it his own. Nothing groundbreaking at all, just a really good twist for commercialising the music.

In 1999 with the release of Dre's 2001, he made a new sound, which got heavily used by many other cats as well (for example listen to Southern records around 2000) got developped by others, but Dre did set the standard for a lot of new, fresh material back in 1999. The fact that all of his lyrics after EVIL4ZAGGIN have been ghost written has little to do with the question whether they're innovative or not, but I assume that means you never meant to say you were expecting innovative lyrics from Dre after all, or were you?

What i see nowadays is a game which is stagnated, it doesn't move on anymore but sticks to same old scripts and formula's, just to get money. Damn well Dre won't stick his head out for his old school fans, only to find it chopped off by the masses. Let's not forget, the "state of hip-hop" doesn't stand alone; there's a bigger picture to be found. Popular art is rather uninspiring now. It's not so much about the innovative artists not getting the exposure they deserve; they simply don't appeal to the people. You can cry all day about how uninspiring hip-hop is now, but as long as that's the music the target groups want, nothing'll change. I don't know why people expect Dre to be coming with something completely different, when he has proved throughout time that he's constantly adapting to the current state of the business.

That means, Dre too knows people don't care about albums anymore. Why would he drop a cinematic album, when people just want a wild song? That surely does please us, the retro-minded avid hip-hop fans, but the market doesn't work that way anymore.

lol you're probably right - I don't know much about Dre's music, but I remember he wrote some lyrics for some NWA album. With N.W.A only having a few albums out, he surely never wrote after their last, evil4zaggin. I'm not sure what album he did write some of his own lyrics for though.

11z im gettin' tired of you breaking down everyone's posts into parts and try to counter everything they say. You didn't like gangstarap anymore you said before, so why do you even respond on a thread about Dre, stay of my nuts fool.

If you don't like gangstarap anymore fuck off, but stay outta my way, thanx.

Dre changed the game with the chronic, period. Dre introduced a fresh sound with 2001, and made it popular, period.

And whatever you say about it, i don't care, i know i am right about this. Now go jack yourself of or something (no homo).

You ignorant little piece of shit, I'm asking a fucking question, and you get at me like that? Now who's the little homo who should go jack off to something? Can't handle someone questioning your assumptions? And that makes me the one with the discreditable opinion, only because I'm trying to look at it from a broader perspective?

 :tosser:

Tired of me breaking things down? I'm sorry I may perhaps have a style more educated than yours. Cry me a fucking river. You would make a perfect couple with the homie Meho. I feel sorry for your pathetic life, loser.

Hahaha, you funny man. Goin' all crazy over some internetbullshit.

You didn't asked me a question, you broke my post down in pieces and have to whine about every little part of it, if you don't like my post ignore it. I don't see what you have to whine about since you're so developped and intelligent that you gave up on "gangstarap". Why are you here if you don't like it anymore?

I don't think i have to say anything else, pathetic little kid. It's cool if you don't like my opinion or whatever, but just ingore it then, you only make a fool of yourself. You always have to comment on what others say and make huge megaposts about what is wrong about someone else's opinion and arguments, fuck you for not respecting anyone's opinion and cry like a little baby.

My name ain't a dick so keep it out your mouth, thanx.  :)

Since you like the academic style so much, peep this.

You didn't asked me a question, you broke my post down in pieces and have to whine about every little part of it

First off, it's "didn't ask" or "never asked". Now if it ain't a question, what's this? Oh, you're right, those are multiple questions:

However, how much protential for making "fresh, groundbreaking" music does the west coast really have these days? I wouldn't know - I haven't seen the potential. And how are you expecting a Dr. Dre album to make a change about "everyone rappin' about the same ol' thing"?

You replied to that, and I gave you an opposing view - a little reflection on your thoughts. If you didn't come here for discussion, why cry when someone actually does try discussing? And why do you feel like someone's whining, just because they don't naturally agree with you?

I don't see what you have to whine about since you're so developped and intelligent that you gave up on "gangstarap". Why are you here if you don't like it anymore?

I never did claim I was too good for gangsta rap. The fact that an MC Eiht album won't appeal to me should be natural. In fact, why do you enjoy Young Buck's gangsta talking so much when that probably has very little to do with your own personal frame of reference and where you stand in life? Because for me personally, I don't see it. I enjoy hearing some good raps every now and then, but I haven't heard any really good gangstarap in a very long time.

In fact, why do you even care about my motives?

I don't think i have to say anything else, pathetic little kid. It's cool if you don't like my opinion or whatever, but just ingore it then, you only make a fool of yourself.

I don't ignore people. I do like your opinion, that's why I asked some questions about it. That's why I gave you some reflection. Now who's making a fool of himself by crying out loud because he's been disagreed with?

You always have to comment on what others say and make huge megaposts about what is wrong about someone else's opinion and arguments, fuck you for not respecting anyone's opinion and cry like a little baby.

Once again, I'm really sorry for attempting to get into a discussion. That's not necessarily about stating what's wrong; it's trying to find a common agreement. With that being said, how could me reflecting on your opinion possibly mean that I don't respect it? It seems there's a little miscommunication going on here. Don't get mad at me for that.

My name ain't a dick so keep it out your mouth, thanx.  :)

You down with NIK? If you like, that's cool with me.

Hahaha, you funny man. Goin' all crazy over some internetbullshit.

Lol. You do realize that the fact you don't like gangstarap anymore and still speaking on those subjects and hangin' around here, makes you a fool, don't you?

I don't care how "academic" you are, just leave me be, i don't feel any need to go into endless internet discussions  about my wrong spelling/grammar or my opinion on music/gangstarap with you. For me, internet is fun, and there's no fun in dissing you over and over again. The only thing you can seem to come up with is chidlish stuff like "Take that mirror away from your face, you might break it." Kids in 2nd grade don't even say that shit anymore.  :-\

And no, i'm not down with Nik in any way, that jewbag is not even worth my attention, just like you. So this is my last post on this subject, do yourself a favor and leave me alone, you ain't gonna get anything out of it anyways.

So peace dude, have a nice job breaking down everyone's posts academic-style.  :-*

Wrong. Like I said, that's a misconception. It's just that I've heard little thrilling gangstarap lately. Does that mean I shouldn't speak on it? Man, if it were up to you, you would be having a discussion board with just you and Meho. Good luck talking about how perfectly you agree on how great Detox will be.

I don't care how "academic" you are, just leave me be, i don't feel any need to go into endless internet discussions  about my wrong spelling/grammar or my opinion on music/gangstarap with you. Oh, so pointing out the contradictions in you (accusing me of getting personally involved, when it's you complaining about my personal motives) is some 2nd grade stuff, while citing NIK's random "get off my nuts" style is perfectly mature?

And no, i'm not down with Nik in any way, that jewbag is not even worth my attention, just like you. So this is my last post on this subject, do yourself a favor and leave me alone, you ain't gonna get anything out of it anyways.

Then why act like it - after all, you're more or less trying to duplicate NIK, aren't you? I don't think NIK's a jewbag who's not worth the attention: that's where we differ. I respect him as much as I respect you, because no matter how much people may disagree, they're still authentic and real. So have a good time hating on everyone who differs from you, if that's what you feel like doing. Bless you.

elevz and xander, whoah

regardless of any personal beef, cause i'm cool with both of you...

Dre has never written his verses. Period. Not on efil4zaggin, not on straight outta compton...never.

If G Funk DID exist in the late 80's, Dre DID have a hand in it (nwa, atl, etc.)

And my personal opinion- Dre did largely invent and introduce a sub genre to the world in the early 90s and he did come and blow the game out again in 99.
