'Four clubs' targeting Nakamura

Quote
Four clubs are aiming to prise Shunsuke Nakamura away from Celtic, his representative has said.

The 28-year-old, who was named SPFA player of the year last season, has insisted he is happy at Celtic Park.

But Angelo Massoni told the Daily Mail: "We have four of the biggest clubs in world football interested in Nakamura, and they are willing to pay big money."

A Celtic spokesperson told BBC Sport Nakamura had given no indication he wanted to leave the club.

Massoni said four clubs were interested in signing Nakamura, adding: "We will recommend these offers to Celtic. If Celtic want to make a better offer, that's up to the club."

Nakamura, who helped Celtic to a league and cup double last season, is contracted to the club until 2009.

He said in April he was content in Glasgow and was looking forward to starring for the club in the Champions League next season.

But Massoni said he had held talks with Nakamura's agent Roberto Takuda about the Japanese international's future.

"We want to meet with Celtic next week," said Massoni.

"We cannot name the clubs interested from the other countries until we have informed the club first."

A Celtic spokesperson told BBC Sport: "Nakamura has a contract with Celtic until next year and an option for a further year.

"We have been given no indication he wants to leave the club."

Meanwhile, Thomas Gravesen's agent has revealed that Turkish side Besiktas are interested in the 31-year-old Danish midfielder.

But John Sivebaek said Gravesen had no intention of leaving and was happy at Celtic.

If he goes for less than 8 or 10 I'd be rather upset and annoyed.

to be honest imo hes very overrated by celtic and ther fans, on a dead ball hes outstanding, could probably hit a coin from 40 yards but ther isnt too much more to his game, hes lightweight(maybe more suited to serie a) and doesnt get himself involved with the play as much as he should

he is still a good player, just overrated, but to be expecting more thn 8 million for him is a joke, the fact tht celtic bought scott brown for 4.5 and i really think hes a much better overall player thn nakamura, u should be happy with around 5 or 6 at a push

just my opinion

Set pieces are a big part of football, to expect 5 million "at a push" for one of the best 5 or 10 at it in the game is the joke.

they are a big part of football, but id much rather have someone with an all round game thn someone who only specifies in tht area, to pay 10 million pound because someone is just amazing at freekicks is a joke, 10 million is still alot of money in football

Hmm, not often i disagree with you Bigg Paul but i am on this occasion. Any less than 7 n im pissed off. Nakamura does tend to dissapear at grounds like fir park and Caledonian for long stretches but you cant take him off simply for the fact that if soemone is fouled within 40 yards of the goal, there is a good good chance Naka will score. IMO Nakamura is the most talented player in the SPL by a long long way, theres a video on youtube of his greatest moments kinda thing, and he is absolutley spectacular. As i said, anything less than 7 is daylight robbery.

The fact you've actually said he is JUST amazing at freekicks ends this discussion for me.

I think the key part of the article is "We will recommend these offers to Celtic. If Celtic want to make a better offer, that's up to the club."

Basically Nakamura wants a new contract and this is the way his agent is going to get one by saying other clubs want him.

Between 7 & 10 million for a set piece 'specialist'

top 5 or 10 in the world at set pieces?  ::) :o

Sorry but you won't get anywhere near between 7 & 10 million for him IMO, and he is not in the top 10 for set pieces in the world

And I am not posting this through blue tinted glasses before anyone says so

You paid £2.5 million for him from Reggina am I correct? he had the same/similar standard of dead ball abilities then as he does now

During his first season at the club, a large number of Celtic fans weren't overly impressed due to his 'hiding' in a number of games

However a free kick against Man Utd and he is thrown in the mix with some of the greatest players in the world  ???

I don't know you can deny he is a free-kick specialist, I'd like to see your attempt at naming 10 better free-kick takers in world football right now.

Adam scored a fair few goals from free kicks last season, including one against you lot, but I wouldn't try and claim him to be in the top 10 in the world at free kicks

Celtic fans do like to make things sound better at times eh  ;)

Many million in Seville when you were 'vice-champions' in the UEFA cup   :P

Some players off the top of my head who can be more dangerous with free kicks than Nakamura, in no order

Juninho Pernambucano
Ugur Yildirim
Andrea Pirlo
Rogério Ceni
Marcos Assunção
Alessandro Del Piero
David Beckham
Juan Roman Riquelme
Ronaldinjo
Deco
Francesco Totti

I'm not saying that Nakamura is not a very good free kick taker but I feel that due to his goals against Man Utd he has been rather too highly - and again this has nothing to do with being a Rangers fan
