^what does him being one of the greatest has to do with him dropping wack shit? if being one of the greatest is an excuse for putting out weak shit then i guess thatīs an excuse LL couldīve used for the last 10 years. thatīs like saying "oh Eminem is great even though heīs dropped garbage verses in the last 4 years".

Nothing he puts out is WACK imo. Not the best everytime ( I feel he's been seriously lacking since 01. ), but what do u expect him to spit about on songs with Rhianna or Beyonce? "Friend or Foe" type shit? Hell no. He's gonna do a verse for the bitches, which is reasonable. Dude has accomplished everything he needs to rap wise, and personal wise. He fucks the BADDEST bitch maybe of all time ( I know alot of Dubcc's hate for him comes out of jealousy about the Beyonce thing ), has dropped countless CLASSIC verses and songs, part owner of the Nets ( a perennial playoff team ), Def Jam ( even Fab is gonna go gold lol ), etc, etc, you get the picture. No need to hate on Jay for his verses in POP songs, your favorite rapper ( maybe not Z-Ro ok )  would have had the SAME kind of verse. Now, if he was to make a solo song like that, there would be reason for criticism, but not on an R&B/POP song.

itīs not only those 2 tracks, Kingdome Come was filled with weak shit. and what does fucking the baddest bitch got to do with disussing his music? and you can get on tracks like that and still drop pretty good stuff lyrically, just listen to that Nas joint with Jennifer Lopez.

Why do you guys care so much about him featuring in a POP song?? IT'S A FUCKING POP SONG, WHO CARES?!?!

I am getting tired of his lyrics though, shit doesn't even rhyme half of the time. I sounds like that gay poetry that you argue with your teacher about on how you think it's not poetry because it doesn't rhyme. And she says it's poetry because it's beautiful.... Jay's shit is not beautiful, it's fucking garbage.

I already explained what having Beyonce had to with people discussing his music with bias, jealousy. Kingdome Come was still at least a 3.5/5 album. I'm not saying every track he's had is golden or even good. He has made quite a few wack songs, but the hate he is on the recieving end of at times just seems a little TOO bias.

Having to rhyme every line seriously limits where you can go with your bars. People act like Jay is the only one who does this, many great emcees ( Nas, Guru, Ghostface come too mind ), don't always have to rely on rhyming every line to make it hot. I think that poetry shouldn't have to be confined to one specific way of inside the box thinking ( it HAS to rhyme ), it's free expression, and Jay has always been popular in the streets, long before he really got big pop-wise.

Have you ever heard a true emcee like Ya Boy? This guy rhymes on every bar and his shit is still sick. I guess Jay just ran out of shit to say. And talking metaphors is all good in your lyrics just make it rhyme for me one time man. It makes the flow feel relaxed and makes the songs sound better also.

Again, your thinking inside the box. Ya Boy is cool, definitley a dope rapper, but his subject matter is extremely limited. It is unreasonable to even compare the too. Ya Boy is not even in Jay's radar. You say Jay ran out of shit to say, his songs actually stick to topic. Songs like "Miniority Report", "30 The New 20" ( not a greta track, but clever and original none the less ). Again, poetry and art are free expression, it should be ORIGINAL and creative. Ya Boy is NOT very original, he raps like ever other NY mixtape emcee, I'm sure if youvce only been exposed to Frisco rap, then Ya Boy could be looked at like a true emcee, but I've seen and heard rappers just like him for years. Again, I DO like his music, but rappers like that come a dime a dozen. His subject matter doesn't separate him from the rest of the industry, whereas Jay is a one of a kind.

rap has evolved into this thing where you can say some shit and not rhyme words.  you can have no flow, not stay on beat, and repeat the same fucken word at the end of a line for a whole verse and still be considered good?  man, how this rap shit has fallin apart.  imo, the biggest blame goes for Jay-z, diddy, and dupri for flooding the outlets with this bullshit and making people conform to their style.  its really sad.

Wouldn't you rather hear a story line to a song, instead of just a basic flow? Youre comparing him to guys like Puffy & JD ( who are producers, 1st, they only rap because they have the money too ), but Jay is more along the lines of a Nas, Common type rapper. He may rap more about glitzy and glamour and junk like that more than the others rappers in his level, but he does have that skill. I'd much rather listen to music with a point, and topic to it. Something that could make me think, and listen to it again. If it still sounds good without having to rhymes, more power to them. IMO his rhyme schemes are amazing, even Crooked I agrees with that, but like Spargeez said, we all have our own opinions.

I cant believe all the hate Jay gets, to me hes the best rapper alive.

People hate rappers based on their personality and actions outside music way too much; like Kanye and Jay. Sure everybodys pissed that such a camel (he is one lol) is fucking Beyonce and that whole retirement thing was idiotic but who gives a fuck about that in the end.

They say Kingdom Come was wack, yet its more listenable than the majority of rap albums in the past 2,3 years. Lets not forget that it was his 9th studio album.

so if hip hop is weak as a whole this nigga should get a pass for dropping a weak album?  i mean i understand that people like his style, but makin excuses for why his latest album was not as good as expected is a shame.  its kinda like how i was expecting Game to drop an dope ass album because i thought he was pretty good.  but when it came down to it, his album was only a little above average.  but the difference between Jay and other rappers is that it seems he can drop the weakest shit to ever come out of a major signed artist and people still seem to deny that its weak and make an excuse.  im not going at you Timbo, but im just saying what i see.

9th album right?  go look at too $hort's catalogue from Born to Mack all the way up to Gettin It and see how many albums that is.  and it could be made that $hort dropped back to back to back to back to back classic albums.

fuck jay-z.

Short has put out bad albums as well. I mean Life is...Too Short is really his only certified classic. Jay has got rhymes patterns for days, and has dropped classic albums as well. So what if he had one bad album, again, damn near every rapper would put Jigga in his top 5. The reason he gets a "pass" for dropping below average shit occasionaly, is because he IS already one of the greatest of all time. Jay was a 3 time MVP before he got famous in the pop world. Reasonable Doubt and Vol. 2 HKL were certified classic albums. Check "Friend or Foe", matter of fact, the only ones who are callin Jay wack, probably haven't listened to his catalog other than the singles. True, he's getting older, and a bit more boring, but your comparing him to Short? Short hasn't said anything groundbreaking since Gettin It. I got love for Short as well, but even HE has nothin but respect for Jay. He has done alot more for hip hop than most will ever do, yall need to show some more love imo.

The only reason I wouldn't give ALL of those Short albums an 8 is because he lacks in the lyrical department. I loved it when I first heard dude, because he raps about pussy like noone else. After about 5-6 albums of that, I felt that his content just stayed exactly the same. Which is cool for one or 2 listens, but doesn't make me wanna go back to it. Yes he was extremely groundbreaking, and is still very well respected to this day, but on the level of Jay, I just can't see it. Short set the bar for a lot of rappers no doubt, he was here before most even knew what rap was, but Jay is one of those guys who took this rap thing, and took it to a whole nother level of lyricism. Obviously, that's what I perosnally judge a rapper by.
